Behold, (A)the pay of the laborers who mowed your fields, and which has been withheld by you, cries out against you; and (B)the outcry of those who did the harvesting has reached the ears of (C)the Lord [a]of armies. You have [b](D)lived for pleasure on the earth and lived luxuriously; you have [c]fattened your hearts in (E)a day of slaughter. You have condemned and [d](F)put to death (G)the righteous person; he offers you no resistance.

Exhortation

Therefore be patient, (H)brothers and sisters, (I)until the coming of the Lord. (J)The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until [e]it gets (K)the early and late rains. (L)You too be patient; (M)strengthen your hearts, for (N)the coming of the Lord is (O)near. (P)Do not [f]complain, (Q)brothers and sisters, against one another, so that you may not be judged; behold, (R)the Judge is standing [g](S)right at the [h]door. 10 As an example, (T)brothers and sisters, of suffering and patience, take (U)the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 We count those (V)blessed who endured. You have heard of (W)the [i]endurance of Job and have seen (X)the [j]outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that (Y)the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.

12 But above all, (Z)my brothers and sisters, (AA)do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath; but [k]your yes is to be yes, and your no, no, so that you do not fall under judgment.

13 Is anyone among you (AB)suffering? (AC)Then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to (AD)sing praises. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for (AE)the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, [l](AF)anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; 15 and the (AG)prayer of faith will [m](AH)restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will (AI)raise him up, and if he has committed sins, [n]they will be forgiven him. 16 Therefore, (AJ)confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be (AK)healed. (AL)A [o]prayer of a righteous person, when it is [p]brought about, can accomplish much.
