Isaiah 59:3-9

New American Standard Bible

³ For your ^(A)hands are defiled with blood,
And your fingers with wrongdoing;
Your lips have spoken ^(B)deceit,
Your tongue mutters wickedness.
^4 (C)No one sues righteously and ^(D)no one pleads ^[a]honestly.
They ^(E)trust in confusion and speak lies;
They ^(F)conceive trouble and give birth to disaster.
⁵ They hatch vipers’ eggs and ^(G)weave the spider’s web;
The one who eats of their eggs dies,
And from what is crushed, a snake breaks out.
⁶ Their webs will not become clothing,
Nor will they ^(H)cover themselves with their works;
Their ^(I)works are works of wrongdoing,
And an ^(J)act of violence is in their ^[b]hands.
^7 (K)Their feet run to evil,
And they hurry to shed innocent blood;
^(L)Their thoughts are thoughts of wrongdoing,
Devastation and destruction are in their paths.
⁸ They do not know the ^(M)way of peace,
And there is ^(N)no justice in their tracks;
They have made their paths crooked,
^(O)Whoever walks on ^[c]them does not know peace.

⁹ Therefore ^(P)justice is far from us,
And righteousness does not reach us;
We ^(Q)hope for light, but there is darkness,
For brightness, but we walk in gloom.
