12 Therefore (A)lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, 13 and (B)make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint (C)but rather be healed. 14 (D)Strive for peace with everyone, and for the (E)holiness (F)without which no one will see the Lord. 15 See to it that no one (G)fails to obtain the grace of God; that no (H)“root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled; 16 that no one is (I)sexually immoral or unholy like Esau, who sold his birthright for a single meal. 17 For you know that (J)afterward, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no chance to repent, though he sought it with tears.

Warning and Encouragement

14 Make every effort to live in peace with everyone(D) and to be holy;(E) without holiness no one will see the Lord.(F) 15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God(G) and that no bitter root(H) grows up to cause trouble and defile many. 16 See that no one is sexually immoral,(I) or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son.(J) 17 Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. Even though he sought the blessing with tears,(K) he could not change what he had done.
