²¹ Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was childless.^(A) The Lord answered his prayer,^(B) and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.

²⁰ They were helped^(A) in fighting them, and God delivered the Hagrites and all their allies into their hands, because they cried^(B) out to him during the battle. He answered their prayers, because they trusted^(C) in him.

¹² Then he continued, “Do not be afraid,^(A) Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble^(B) yourself before your God, your words^(C) were heard, and I have come in response to them.^(D)

² Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, ³ “Remember,^(A) Lord, how I have walked^(B) before you faithfully^(C) and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

⁴ Before Isaiah had left the middle court, the word of the Lord came to him: ⁵ “Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard^(D) your prayer and seen your tears;^(E) I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the Lord. ⁶ I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend^(F) this city for my sake and for the sake of my servant David.’”

Sennacherib’s Fall^(A)

²¹ Then Isaiah son of Amoz^(B) sent a message to Hezekiah: “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Because you have prayed to me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria, ²² this is the word the Lord has spoken against him:

²³ So we fasted^(A) and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer.
