One time Joseph had a dream, and when he told his brothers about it, they hated him even more. He said, “Listen to the dream I had. We were all in the field tying up sheaves of wheat, when my sheaf got up and stood up straight. Yours formed a circle around mine and bowed down to it.”

“Do you think you are going to be a king and rule over us?” his brothers asked. So they hated him even more because of his dreams and because of what he said about them.

Then Joseph had another dream and told his brothers, “I had another dream, in which I saw the sun, the moon, and eleven stars bowing down to me.”

Joseph had a dream,(A) and when he told it to his brothers,(B) they hated him all the more.(C) He said to them, “Listen to this dream I had: We were binding sheaves(D) of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it.”(E)

His brothers said to him, “Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?”(F) And they hated him all the more(G) because of his dream and what he had said.

Then he had another dream,(H) and he told it to his brothers. “Listen,” he said, “I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars(I) were bowing down to me.”(J)
