33 Jakob hóf upp augu sín og sá Esaú koma og með honum fjögur hundruð manns. Skipti hann þá börnunum niður á Leu og Rakel og báðar ambáttirnar.
2 Og hann lét ambáttirnar og þeirra börn vera fremst, þá Leu og hennar börn, og Rakel og Jósef aftast.
3 En sjálfur gekk hann á undan þeim og laut sjö sinnum til jarðar, uns hann kom fast að bróður sínum.
4 Þá hljóp Esaú á móti honum og faðmaði hann, lagði hendur um háls honum og kyssti hann, og þeir grétu.
5 Og Esaú leit upp og sá konurnar og börnin og mælti: "Hvernig stendur á þessu fólki, sem með þér er?" Og hann svaraði: "Það eru börnin, sem Guð hefir af náð sinni gefið þjóni þínum."
6 Þá gengu fram ambáttirnar og börn þeirra og hneigðu sig.
7 Þá gekk og Lea fram og börn hennar og hneigðu sig, og síðan gengu Jósef og Rakel fram og hneigðu sig.
8 Esaú mælti: "Hvað skal allur þessi hópur, sem ég mætti?" Jakob svaraði: "Að ég megi finna náð í augum herra míns."
9 Þá mælti Esaú: "Ég á nóg. Eig þú þitt, bróðir minn!"
10 En Jakob sagði: "Eigi svo. Hafi ég fundið náð í augum þínum, þá þigg þú gjöfina af mér, því að þegar ég sá auglit þitt, var sem ég sæi Guðs auglit, og þú tókst náðarsamlega á móti mér.
11 Ég bið þig, að þú þiggir gjöf mína, sem þér var færð, því að Guð hefir verið mér náðugur og ég hefi allsnægtir." Og hann lagði að honum, svo að hann þá gjöfina.
12 Þá mælti Esaú: "Tökum okkur nú upp og höldum áfram, og skal ég fara á undan þér."
13 En hann svaraði honum: "Þú sér, herra minn, að börnin eru þróttlítil og að í ferðinni eru lambær og kýr með kálfum, og ræki ég þær of hart einn dag, þá mundi öll hjörðin drepast.
14 Fari herra minn á undan þjóni sínum, en ég mun halda á eftir í hægðum mínum, eins og fénaðurinn getur farið, sem ég rek, og eins og börnin geta farið, uns ég kem til herra míns í Seír."
15 Þá mælti Esaú: "Þá vil ég þó láta eftir hjá þér nokkra af þeim mönnum, sem með mér eru." Hann svaraði: "Hver þörf er á því? Lát mig aðeins finna náð fyrir augum herra míns."
16 Síðan fór Esaú þann sama dag leiðar sinnar heim aftur til Seír.
17 Og Jakob hélt áfram til Súkkót og byggði sér hús, og handa fénaði sínum gjörði hann laufskála. Fyrir því heitir staðurinn Súkkót.
18 Jakob kom heill á hófi til Síkemborgar, sem er í Kanaanlandi, er hann kom frá Mesópótamíu, og hann sló tjöldum fyrir utan borgina.
19 Hann keypti landspilduna, sem hann hafði tjaldað á, af sonum Hemors, föður Síkems, fyrir hundrað silfurpeninga.
20 Og hann reisti þar altari og kallaði það El-elóhe-Ísrael.
34 Dína dóttir Leu, er hún hafði fætt Jakob, gekk út að sjá dætur landsins.
2 Þá sá Síkem hana, sonur Hevítans Hemors, höfðingja landsins, og hann tók hana og lagðist með henni og spjallaði hana.
3 Og hann lagði mikinn ástarhug á Dínu, dóttur Jakobs, og hann elskaði stúlkuna og talaði vinsamlega við hana.
4 Síkem kom að máli við Hemor föður sinn og mælti: "Tak mér þessa stúlku fyrir konu."
5 En Jakob hafði frétt, að hann hefði svívirt Dínu dóttur hans, en með því að synir hans voru úti í haga með fénað hans, þá lét hann kyrrt vera, þar til er þeir komu heim.
6 Þá gekk Hemor, faðir Síkems, út til Jakobs til þess að tala við hann.
7 Og synir Jakobs komu heim úr haganum, er þeir heyrðu þetta. Og mennirnir styggðust og urðu stórreiðir, því að hann hafði framið óhæfuverk í Ísrael, er hann lagðist með dóttur Jakobs, og slíkt hefði aldrei átt að fremja.
8 Þá talaði Hemor við þá og mælti: "Síkem sonur minn hefir mikla ást á dóttur yðar. Ég bið að þér gefið honum hana fyrir konu.
9 Mægist við oss, gefið oss yðar dætur og takið yður vorar dætur
10 og staðnæmist hjá oss, og landið skal standa yður til boða. Verið hér kyrrir og farið um landið og takið yður bólfestu í því."
11 Og Síkem sagði við föður hennar og bræður: "Ó, að ég mætti finna náð í augum yðar. Hvað sem þér til nefnið, það skal ég greiða.
12 Krefjist af mér svo mikils mundar og morgungjafar sem vera skal, og mun ég greiða það, er þér til nefnið, en gefið mér stúlkuna fyrir konu."
13 Þá svöruðu synir Jakobs þeim Síkem og Hemor föður hans, og töluðu með undirhyggju, af því að hann hafði svívirt Dínu systur þeirra,
14 og sögðu við þá: "Eigi megum vér þetta gjöra, að gefa systur vora óumskornum manni, því að það væri oss vanvirða.
15 Því aðeins viljum vér gjöra að yðar vilja, að þér verðið eins og vér, með því að láta umskera allt karlkyn meðal yðar.
16 Þá skulum vér gefa yður vorar dætur og taka yðar dætur oss til handa og búa hjá yður, svo að vér verðum ein þjóð.
17 En viljið þér eigi láta að orðum vorum og umskerast, þá tökum vér dóttur vora og förum burt."
18 Og Hemor og Síkem, syni Hemors, geðjaðist vel tal þeirra.
19 Og sveinninn lét ekki á því standa að gjöra þetta, því að hann elskaði dóttur Jakobs. En hann var talinn maður ágætastur í sinni ætt.
20 Hemor og Síkem sonur hans komu í hlið borgar sinnar og töluðu við borgarmenn sína og sögðu:
21 "Þessir menn bera friðarhug til vor. Látum þá setjast að í landinu og fara allra sinna ferða um það, því að nóg er landrýmið á báðar hendur handa þeim. Dætur þeirra munum vér taka oss fyrir konur og gefa þeim dætur vorar.
22 En því aðeins vilja mennirnir gjöra að vorum vilja og búa vor á meðal, svo að vér verðum ein þjóð, að vér látum umskera allt karlkyn meðal vor, eins og þeir eru umskornir.
23 Hjarðir þeirra, fjárhlutur þeirra og allur fénaður þeirra, verður það ekki vor eign? Gjörum aðeins að vilja þeirra, svo að þeir staðnæmist hjá oss."
24 Og þeir létu að orðum Hemors og Síkems sonar hans, allir sem gengu út um hlið borgar hans, og allt karlkyn lét umskerast, allir þeir, sem gengu út um hlið borgar hans.
25 En svo bar til á þriðja degi, er þeir voru sjúkir af sárum, að tveir synir Jakobs, þeir Símeon og Leví, bræður Dínu, tóku hvor sitt sverð og gengu inn í borgina, sem átti sér einskis ills von, og drápu þar allt karlkyn.
26 Drápu þeir einnig Hemor og son hans Síkem með sverðseggjum og tóku Dínu úr húsi Síkems og fóru síðan burt.
27 Synir Jakobs réðust að hinum vegnu og rændu borgina, af því að þeir höfðu svívirt systur þeirra.
28 Sauði þeirra, naut þeirra og asna, og allt, sem var í borginni, og það, sem var í högunum, tóku þeir.
29 Og öll auðæfi þeirra, öll börn þeirra og konur tóku þeir að herfangi og rændu, sömuleiðis allt, sem var í húsunum.
30 Jakob sagði við Símeon og Leví: "Þið hafið stofnað mér í ógæfu með því að gjöra mig illa þokkaðan af landsmönnum, af Kanaanítum og Peresítum. Nú með því að ég er liðfár, munu þeir safnast saman á móti mér og vinna sigur á mér. Verð ég þá afmáður, ég og mitt hús."
31 En þeir svöruðu: "Átti hann þá að fara með systur okkar eins og skækju?"
35 Guð sagði við Jakob: "Tak þig upp og far upp til Betel og dvel þú þar og gjör þar altari Guði, sem birtist þér, þegar þú flýðir undan Esaú bróður þínum."
2 Jakob sagði við heimafólk sitt og alla, sem með honum voru: "Kastið burt þeim útlendu goðum, sem þér hafið hjá yður, og hreinsið yður og hafið fataskipti,
3 og skulum vér taka oss upp og fara upp til Betel. Vil ég reisa þar altari þeim Guði, sem bænheyrði mig á tíma neyðar minnar og hefir verið með mér á þeim vegi, sem ég hefi farið."
4 Og þeir fengu Jakob öll þau útlendu goð, sem þeir höfðu hjá sér, og hringana, sem þeir höfðu í eyrum sér, og gróf Jakob það undir eikinni, sem er hjá Síkem.
5 Því næst fóru þeir af stað. En ótti frá Guði var yfir öllum borgunum, sem voru umhverfis þá, svo að sonum Jakobs var ekki veitt eftirför.
6 Og Jakob kom til Lúz, sem er í Kanaanlandi (það er Betel), hann og allt fólkið, sem með honum var.
7 Og hann reisti þar altari og kallaði staðinn El-Betel, því að Guð hafði birst honum þar, þegar hann flýði undan bróður sínum.
8 Þar andaðist Debóra, fóstra Rebekku, og var jörðuð fyrir neðan Betel, undir eikinni, og fyrir því heitir hún Gráteik.
9 Enn birtist Guð Jakob, er hann var á heimleið frá Mesópótamíu, og blessaði hann.
10 Og Guð sagði við hann: "Nafn þitt er Jakob. Eigi skalt þú héðan af Jakob heita, heldur skal nafn þitt vera Ísrael." Og hann nefndi hann Ísrael.
11 Og Guð sagði við hann: "Ég er Almáttugur Guð. Ver þú frjósamur og auk kyn þitt. Þjóð, já fjöldi þjóða skal frá þér koma, og konungar skulu út ganga af lendum þínum.
12 Og landið, sem ég gaf Abraham og Ísak, mun ég gefa þér, og niðjum þínum eftir þig mun ég gefa landið."
13 Því næst sté Guð upp frá honum, þaðan sem hann talaði við hann.
14 Jakob reisti upp merki á þeim stað, sem Guð talaði við hann, merkisstein, og dreypti yfir hann dreypifórn og hellti yfir hann olíu.
15 Og Jakob nefndi staðinn, þar sem Guð talaði við hann, Betel.
16 Þeir tóku sig upp frá Betel. En er þeir áttu skammt eftir ófarið til Efrata, tók Rakel léttasótt og kom hart niður.
17 Og er hún kom svo hart niður í barnburðinum, sagði ljósmóðirin við hana: "Óttast þú ekki, því að nú eignast þú annan son."
18 Og er hún var í andlátinu, _ því að hún dó _, þá nefndi hún hann Benóní, en faðir hans nefndi hann Benjamín.
19 Því næst andaðist Rakel og var jörðuð við veginn til Efrata, það er Betlehem.
20 Jakob reisti minnismerki á leiði hennar. Þar er legsteinn Rakelar allt til þessa dags.
21 Ísrael hélt áfram ferðinni og sló tjöldum sínum hinumegin við Mígdal Eder.
22 Meðan Ísrael hafðist við í því byggðarlagi, bar svo við, að Rúben fór og lagðist með Bílu, hjákonu föður síns. Og Ísrael varð þess áskynja. Jakob átti tólf sonu.
23 Synir Leu: Rúben, frumgetinn son Jakobs, Símeon, Leví, Júda, Íssakar og Sebúlon.
24 Synir Rakelar: Jósef og Benjamín.
25 Synir Bílu, þernu Rakelar: Dan og Naftalí.
26 Synir Silpu, þernu Leu: Gað og Asser. Þetta eru synir Jakobs, sem honum fæddust í Mesópótamíu.
27 Og Jakob kom til Ísaks föður síns í Mamre við Kirjat Arba, það er Hebron, þar sem Abraham og Ísak höfðu dvalist sem útlendingar.
28 En dagar Ísaks voru hundrað og áttatíu ár.
29 Og Ísak andaðist og dó og safnaðist til síns fólks, gamall og saddur lífdaga, og Esaú og Jakob synir hans jörðuðu hann.

Jacob Meets Esau
33 Jacob looked up and there was Esau, coming with his four hundred men;(A) so he divided the children among Leah, Rachel and the two female servants.(B) 2 He put the female servants and their children(C) in front, Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph(D) in the rear. 3 He himself went on ahead and bowed down to the ground(E) seven times(F) as he approached his brother.
4 But Esau(G) ran to meet Jacob and embraced him; he threw his arms around his neck and kissed him.(H) And they wept.(I) 5 Then Esau looked up and saw the women and children. “Who are these with you?” he asked.
Jacob answered, “They are the children God has graciously given your servant.(J)”
6 Then the female servants and their children(K) approached and bowed down.(L) 7 Next, Leah and her children(M) came and bowed down.(N) Last of all came Joseph and Rachel,(O) and they too bowed down.
8 Esau asked, “What’s the meaning of all these flocks and herds I met?”(P)
“To find favor in your eyes, my lord,”(Q) he said.
9 But Esau said, “I already have plenty,(R) my brother. Keep what you have for yourself.”
10 “No, please!” said Jacob. “If I have found favor in your eyes,(S) accept this gift(T) from me. For to see your face is like seeing the face of God,(U) now that you have received me favorably.(V) 11 Please accept the present(W) that was brought to you, for God has been gracious to me(X) and I have all I need.”(Y) And because Jacob insisted,(Z) Esau accepted it.
12 Then Esau said, “Let us be on our way; I’ll accompany you.”
13 But Jacob said to him, “My lord(AA) knows that the children are tender and that I must care for the ewes and cows that are nursing their young.(AB) If they are driven hard just one day, all the animals will die. 14 So let my lord go on ahead of his servant, while I move along slowly at the pace of the flocks and herds(AC) before me and the pace of the children, until I come to my lord in Seir.(AD)”
15 Esau said, “Then let me leave some of my men with you.”
“But why do that?” Jacob asked. “Just let me find favor in the eyes of my lord.”(AE)
16 So that day Esau started on his way back to Seir.(AF) 17 Jacob, however, went to Sukkoth,(AG) where he built a place for himself and made shelters for his livestock. That is why the place is called Sukkoth.[a]
18 After Jacob came from Paddan Aram,[b](AH) he arrived safely at the city of Shechem(AI) in Canaan and camped within sight of the city. 19 For a hundred pieces of silver,[c] he bought from the sons of Hamor,(AJ) the father of Shechem,(AK) the plot of ground(AL) where he pitched his tent.(AM) 20 There he set up an altar(AN) and called it El Elohe Israel.[d]
Dinah and the Shechemites
34 Now Dinah,(AO) the daughter Leah had borne to Jacob, went out to visit the women of the land. 2 When Shechem(AP) son of Hamor(AQ) the Hivite,(AR) the ruler of that area, saw her, he took her and raped her.(AS) 3 His heart was drawn to Dinah(AT) daughter of Jacob;(AU) he loved(AV) the young woman and spoke tenderly(AW) to her. 4 And Shechem said to his father Hamor, “Get me this girl as my wife.”(AX)
5 When Jacob heard that his daughter Dinah had been defiled,(AY) his sons were in the fields with his livestock; so he did nothing about it until they came home.
6 Then Shechem’s father Hamor went out to talk with Jacob.(AZ) 7 Meanwhile, Jacob’s sons had come in from the fields as soon as they heard what had happened. They were shocked(BA) and furious,(BB) because Shechem had done an outrageous thing in[e] Israel(BC) by sleeping with Jacob’s daughter—a thing that should not be done.(BD)
8 But Hamor said to them, “My son Shechem has his heart set on your daughter. Please give her to him as his wife.(BE) 9 Intermarry with us; give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves.(BF) 10 You can settle among us;(BG) the land is open to you.(BH) Live in it, trade[f] in it,(BI) and acquire property in it.(BJ)”
11 Then Shechem said to Dinah’s father and brothers, “Let me find favor in your eyes,(BK) and I will give you whatever you ask. 12 Make the price for the bride(BL) and the gift I am to bring as great as you like, and I’ll pay whatever you ask me. Only give me the young woman as my wife.”
13 Because their sister Dinah had been defiled,(BM) Jacob’s sons replied deceitfully(BN) as they spoke to Shechem and his father Hamor. 14 They said to them, “We can’t do such a thing; we can’t give our sister to a man who is not circumcised.(BO) That would be a disgrace to us. 15 We will enter into an agreement with you on one condition(BP) only: that you become like us by circumcising all your males.(BQ) 16 Then we will give you our daughters and take your daughters for ourselves.(BR) We’ll settle among you and become one people with you.(BS) 17 But if you will not agree to be circumcised, we’ll take our sister and go.”
18 Their proposal seemed good to Hamor and his son Shechem. 19 The young man, who was the most honored(BT) of all his father’s family, lost no time in doing what they said, because he was delighted with Jacob’s daughter.(BU) 20 So Hamor and his son Shechem went to the gate of their city(BV) to speak to the men of their city. 21 “These men are friendly toward us,” they said. “Let them live in our land and trade in it;(BW) the land has plenty of room for them. We can marry their daughters and they can marry ours.(BX) 22 But the men will agree to live with us as one people only on the condition that our males be circumcised,(BY) as they themselves are. 23 Won’t their livestock, their property and all their other animals become ours?(BZ) So let us agree to their terms, and they will settle among us.(CA)”
24 All the men who went out of the city gate(CB) agreed with Hamor and his son Shechem, and every male in the city was circumcised.
25 Three days later, while all of them were still in pain,(CC) two of Jacob’s sons, Simeon(CD) and Levi,(CE) Dinah’s brothers, took their swords(CF) and attacked the unsuspecting city,(CG) killing every male.(CH) 26 They put Hamor and his son Shechem to the sword(CI) and took Dinah(CJ) from Shechem’s house and left. 27 The sons of Jacob came upon the dead bodies and looted the city(CK) where[g] their sister had been defiled.(CL) 28 They seized their flocks and herds and donkeys(CM) and everything else of theirs in the city and out in the fields.(CN) 29 They carried off all their wealth and all their women and children,(CO) taking as plunder(CP) everything in the houses.(CQ)
30 Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, “You have brought trouble(CR) on me by making me obnoxious(CS) to the Canaanites and Perizzites, the people living in this land.(CT) We are few in number,(CU) and if they join forces against me and attack me, I and my household will be destroyed.”
31 But they replied, “Should he have treated our sister like a prostitute?(CV)”
Jacob Returns to Bethel
35 Then God said to Jacob, “Go up to Bethel(CW) and settle there, and build an altar(CX) there to God,(CY) who appeared to you(CZ) when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.”(DA)
2 So Jacob said to his household(DB) and to all who were with him, “Get rid of the foreign gods(DC) you have with you, and purify yourselves and change your clothes.(DD) 3 Then come, let us go up to Bethel, where I will build an altar to God,(DE) who answered me in the day of my distress(DF) and who has been with me wherever I have gone.(DG)” 4 So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods they had and the rings in their ears,(DH) and Jacob buried them under the oak(DI) at Shechem.(DJ) 5 Then they set out, and the terror of God(DK) fell on the towns all around them so that no one pursued them.(DL)
6 Jacob and all the people with him came to Luz(DM) (that is, Bethel) in the land of Canaan.(DN) 7 There he built an altar,(DO) and he called the place El Bethel,[h](DP) because it was there that God revealed himself to him(DQ) when he was fleeing from his brother.(DR)
8 Now Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse,(DS) died and was buried under the oak(DT) outside Bethel.(DU) So it was named Allon Bakuth.[i]
9 After Jacob returned from Paddan Aram,[j](DV) God appeared to him again and blessed him.(DW) 10 God said to him, “Your name is Jacob,[k] but you will no longer be called Jacob; your name will be Israel.[l]”(DX) So he named him Israel.
11 And God said to him, “I am God Almighty[m];(DY) be fruitful and increase in number.(DZ) A nation(EA) and a community of nations will come from you, and kings will be among your descendants.(EB) 12 The land I gave to Abraham and Isaac I also give to you, and I will give this land to your descendants after you.(EC)”(ED) 13 Then God went up from him(EE) at the place where he had talked with him.
14 Jacob set up a stone pillar(EF) at the place where God had talked with him, and he poured out a drink offering(EG) on it; he also poured oil on it.(EH) 15 Jacob called the place where God had talked with him Bethel.[n](EI)
The Deaths of Rachel and Isaac(EJ)
16 Then they moved on from Bethel. While they were still some distance from Ephrath,(EK) Rachel(EL) began to give birth and had great difficulty. 17 And as she was having great difficulty in childbirth, the midwife(EM) said to her, “Don’t despair, for you have another son.”(EN) 18 As she breathed her last—for she was dying—she named her son Ben-Oni.[o](EO) But his father named him Benjamin.[p](EP)
19 So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath(EQ) (that is, Bethlehem(ER)). 20 Over her tomb Jacob set up a pillar, and to this day(ES) that pillar marks Rachel’s tomb.(ET)
21 Israel moved on again and pitched his tent beyond Migdal Eder.(EU) 22 While Israel was living in that region, Reuben went in and slept with his father’s concubine(EV) Bilhah,(EW) and Israel heard of it.
Jacob had twelve sons:
23 The sons of Leah:(EX)
Reuben the firstborn(EY) of Jacob,
Simeon, Levi, Judah,(EZ) Issachar and Zebulun.(FA)
24 The sons of Rachel:
25 The sons of Rachel’s servant Bilhah:(FD)
Dan and Naphtali.(FE)
26 The sons of Leah’s servant Zilpah:(FF)
These were the sons of Jacob,(FI) who were born to him in Paddan Aram.(FJ)
27 Jacob came home to his father Isaac(FK) in Mamre,(FL) near Kiriath Arba(FM) (that is, Hebron),(FN) where Abraham and Isaac had stayed.(FO) 28 Isaac lived a hundred and eighty years.(FP) 29 Then he breathed his last and died and was gathered to his people,(FQ) old and full of years.(FR) And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.(FS)

10 Og hann kallaði til sín lærisveina sína tólf og gaf þeim vald yfir óhreinum öndum, að þeir gætu rekið þá út og læknað hvers kyns sjúkdóm og veikindi.
2 Nöfn postulanna tólf eru þessi: Fyrstur Símon, sem kallast Pétur, og Andrés bróðir hans, þá Jakob Sebedeusson og Jóhannes bróðir hans,
3 Filippus og Bartólómeus, Tómas og Matteus tollheimtumaður, Jakob Alfeusson og Taddeus,
4 Símon vandlætari og Júdas Ískaríot, sá er sveik hann.
5 Þessa tólf sendi Jesús út og mælti svo fyrir: "Haldið ekki til heiðinna manna og farið ekki í samverska borg.

8 Læknið sjúka, vekið upp dauða, hreinsið líkþráa, rekið út illa anda. Gefins hafið þér fengið, gefins skuluð þér láta í té.
9 Takið ekki gull, silfur né eir í belti,
10 eigi mal til ferðar eða tvo kyrtla og hvorki skó né staf. Verður er verkamaðurinn fæðis síns.
11 Hvar sem þér komið í borg eða þorp, spyrjist þá fyrir um, hver þar sé verðugur, og þar sé aðsetur yðar, uns þér leggið upp að nýju.
12 Þegar þér komið í hús, þá árnið því góðs,
13 og sé það verðugt, skal friður yðar koma yfir það, en sé það ekki verðugt, skal friður yðar aftur hverfa til yðar.
14 Og taki einhver ekki við yður né hlýði á orð yðar, farið þá úr því húsi eða þeirri borg og hristið dustið af fótum yðar.
15 Sannlega segi ég yður: Bærilegra mun landi Sódómu og Gómorru á dómsdegi en þeirri borg.
16 Sjá, ég sendi yður eins og sauði meðal úlfa. Verið því kænir sem höggormar og falslausir sem dúfur.
17 Varið yður á mönnunum. Þeir munu draga yður fyrir dómstóla og húðstrýkja yður í samkundum sínum.
18 Þér munuð leiddir fyrir landshöfðingja og konunga mín vegna þeim og heiðingjunum til vitnisburðar.
19 En þá er menn draga yður fyrir rétt, skuluð þér ekki hafa áhyggjur af því, hvernig eða hvað þér eigið að tala. Yður verður gefið á sömu stundu, hvað segja skal.
20 Þér eruð ekki þeir sem tala, heldur andi föður yðar, hann talar í yður.

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve(A)(B)(C)(D)(E)
10 Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits(F) and to heal every disease and sickness.(G)
2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.(H)
5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans.(I) 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel.(J) 7 As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven(K) has come near.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy,[a] drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
9 “Do not get any gold or silver or copper to take with you in your belts(L)— 10 no bag for the journey or extra shirt or sandals or a staff, for the worker is worth his keep.(M) 11 Whatever town or village you enter, search there for some worthy person and stay at their house until you leave. 12 As you enter the home, give it your greeting.(N) 13 If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. 14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet.(O) 15 Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah(P) on the day of judgment(Q) than for that town.(R)
16 “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves.(S) Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.(T) 17 Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils(U) and be flogged in the synagogues.(V) 18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings(W) as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. 19 But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it.(X) At that time you will be given what to say, 20 for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father(Y) speaking through you.
