Thus says the Lord of hosts: Old men and old women shall again sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each with staff in hand for very age. And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in its streets. Thus says the Lord of hosts: If it is marvelous in the sight of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvelous in my sight, says the Lord of hosts? Thus says the Lord of hosts: Behold, I will save my people from the east country and from the west country; and I will bring them to dwell in the midst of Jerusalem; and they shall be my people and I will be their God, in faithfulness and in righteousness.”

Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Let your hands be strong, you who in these days have been hearing these words from the mouth of the prophets, since the day that the foundation of the house of the Lord of hosts was laid, that the temple might be built.

This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Once again men and women of ripe old age will sit in the streets of Jerusalem,(A) each of them with cane in hand because of their age. The city streets will be filled with boys and girls playing there.(B)

This is what the Lord Almighty says: “It may seem marvelous to the remnant of this people at that time,(C) but will it seem marvelous to me?(D)” declares the Lord Almighty.

This is what the Lord Almighty says: “I will save my people from the countries of the east and the west.(E) I will bring them back(F) to live(G) in Jerusalem; they will be my people,(H) and I will be faithful and righteous to them as their God.(I)

This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Now hear these words, ‘Let your hands be strong(J) so that the temple may be built.’ This is also what the prophets(K) said who were present when the foundation(L) was laid for the house of the Lord Almighty.
