90 (B)Preghiera di Mosè, uomo di Dio.
Signore, tu sei stato per noi un rifugio
d’età in età.
2 Prima che i monti fossero nati
e che tu avessi formato la terra e l’universo,
anzi, da eternità in eternità, tu sei Dio.
3 Tu fai ritornare i mortali in polvere, dicendo:
«Ritornate, figli degli uomini».
4 Perché mille anni sono ai tuoi occhi
come il giorno di ieri che è passato,
come un turno di guardia di notte.
5 Tu li porti via come in una piena;
sono come un sogno.
Sono come l’erba che verdeggia la mattina;
6 la mattina essa fiorisce e verdeggia,
la sera è falciata e inaridisce.
7 Poiché siamo consumati per la tua ira
e siamo atterriti per il tuo sdegno.
8 Tu metti le nostre colpe davanti a te
e i nostri peccati nascosti alla luce del tuo volto.
9 Tutti i nostri giorni svaniscono per la tua ira;
finiamo i nostri anni come un soffio.
10 I giorni dei nostri anni arrivano a settant’anni,
o, per i più forti, a ottant’anni;
e quel che ne fa l’orgoglio, non è che travaglio e vanità;
perché passa presto, e noi ce ne voliamo via.
11 Chi conosce la forza della tua ira
e il tuo sdegno con il timore che ti è dovuto?
12 Insegnaci dunque a contare bene i nostri giorni,
per acquistare un cuore saggio.
13 Ritorna, Signore; fino a quando?
Muoviti a pietà dei tuoi servi.
14 Saziaci al mattino della tua grazia
e noi esulteremo, gioiremo tutti i nostri giorni.
15 Rallegraci in proporzione dei giorni che ci hai afflitti
e degli anni che abbiamo sofferto tribolazione.
16 Si manifesti la tua opera ai tuoi servi
e la tua gloria ai loro figli.
17 La grazia del Signore nostro Dio sia sopra di noi,
e rendi stabile l’opera delle nostre mani;
sì, l’opera delle nostre mani rendila stabile.

Book Four
From Everlasting to Everlasting
A (A)Prayer of Moses, the (B)man of God.
90 Lord, you have been our (C)dwelling place[a]
in all generations.
2 (D)Before the (E)mountains were brought forth,
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
(F)from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
3 You return man to dust
and say, (G)“Return, (H)O children of man!”[b]
4 For (I)a thousand years in your sight
are but as (J)yesterday when it is past,
or as (K)a watch in the night.
5 You (L)sweep them away as with a flood; they are like (M)a dream,
like (N)grass that is renewed in the morning:
6 in (O)the morning it flourishes and is renewed;
in the evening it (P)fades and (Q)withers.
7 For we are brought to an end by your anger;
by your wrath we are dismayed.
8 You have (R)set our iniquities before you,
our (S)secret sins in the light of your presence.
9 For all our days pass away under your wrath;
we bring our years to an end like a sigh.
10 The years of our life are seventy,
or even by reason of strength eighty;
yet their span[c] is but toil and trouble;
they are soon gone, and we fly away.
11 Who considers the power of your anger,
and your wrath according to the fear of you?
12 (T)So teach us to number our days
that we may get a heart of wisdom.
13 (U)Return, O Lord! (V)How long?
Have (W)pity on your servants!
14 Satisfy us in the (X)morning with your steadfast love,
that we may (Y)rejoice and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad for as many days as you have (Z)afflicted us,
and for as many years as we have seen evil.
16 Let your (AA)work be shown to your servants,
and your glorious power to their children.
17 Let the (AB)favor[d] of the Lord our God be upon us,
and establish (AC)the work of our hands upon us;
yes, establish the work of our hands!

1 Ein Gebet Moses, des Mannes Gottes.
Herr, du bist unsere Zuflucht
von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht!
2 Ehe die Berge wurden
und du die Erde und den Erdkreis hervorbrachtest,
ja, von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit bist du Gott!
3 Du lässt den Menschen zum Staub zurückkehren
und sprichst: Kehrt zurück, ihr Menschenkinder![a]
4 Denn tausend Jahre sind vor dir
wie der gestrige Tag, der vergangen ist,
und wie eine Nachtwache.
5 Du lässt sie dahinfahren wie eine Wasserflut,[b]
sie sind wie ein Schlaf,
wie das Gras, das am Morgen aufsprießt;
6 am Morgen blüht es und sprießt,
am Abend welkt es und verdorrt.
7 Denn wir werden aufgerieben durch deinen Zorn
und schnell hinweggerafft durch deinen Grimm.
8 Du hast unsere Missetaten vor dich hingestellt,
unser geheimstes Tun[c] in das Licht deines Angesichts.
9 Denn alle unsere Tage schwinden dahin durch deinen Zorn;
wir verbringen unsere Jahre wie ein Geschwätz[d].
10 Unser Leben währt siebzig Jahre,
und wenn es hoch kommt, so sind"s achtzig Jahre;
und worauf man stolz ist, das war Mühsal und Nichtigkeit,
denn schnell enteilt es, und wir fliegen dahin.
11 Wer erkennt aber die Stärke deines Zorns,
deinen Grimm, so wie es der Furcht vor dir entspricht?
12 Lehre uns unsere Tage richtig zählen,
damit wir ein weises Herz erlangen![e]
13 Kehre zurück,[f] o Herr! Wie lange noch?
Und hab Erbarmen mit deinen Knechten!
14 Sättige uns früh mit deiner Gnade,
so wollen wir jubeln und fröhlich sein unser Leben lang.
15 Erfreue uns so viele Tage, wie du uns beugtest,
so viele Jahre, wie wir Unglück sahen.
16 Lass deinen Knechten dein Walten sichtbar werden,
und deine Herrlichkeit ihren Kindern!
17 Und die Freundlichkeit des Herrn, unsres Gottes, sei über uns,
und das Werk unsrer Hände fördere[g] du für uns,
ja, das Werk unsrer Hände wollest du fördern!
