³ He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
⁴ indeed, he who watches^(C) over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

⁵ The Lord watches over^(D) you—
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
⁶ the sun^(E) will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.

⁷ The Lord will keep you from all harm^(F)—
    he will watch over your life;
⁸ the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.^(G)

¹⁰ See, the Sovereign Lord comes^(A) with power,^(B)
    and he rules^(C) with a mighty arm.^(D)
See, his reward^(E) is with him,
    and his recompense accompanies him.
¹¹ He tends his flock like a shepherd:^(F)
    He gathers the lambs in his arms^(G)
and carries them close to his heart;^(H)
    he gently leads^(I) those that have young.^(J)

¹² Who has measured the waters^(K) in the hollow of his hand,^(L)
    or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens?^(M)
Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket,
    or weighed the mountains on the scales
    and the hills in a balance?^(N)
13 Who can fathom the Spirit^[a](O) of the Lord,
    or instruct the Lord as his counselor?^(P)
14 Whom did the Lord consult to enlighten him,
    and who taught him the right way?
Who was it that taught him knowledge,^(Q)
    or showed him the path of understanding?^(R)

¹⁵ Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket;
    they are regarded as dust on the scales;^(S)
    he weighs the islands as though they were fine dust.^(T)
16 Lebanon^(U) is not sufficient for altar fires,
    nor its animals^(V) enough for burnt offerings.
¹⁷ Before him all the nations^(W) are as nothing;^(X)
    they are regarded by him as worthless
    and less than nothing.^(Y)

¹⁸ With whom, then, will you compare God?^(Z)
    To what image^(AA) will you liken him?
¹⁹ As for an idol,^(AB) a metalworker casts it,
    and a goldsmith^(AC) overlays it with gold^(AD)
    and fashions silver chains for it.
²⁰ A person too poor to present such an offering
    selects wood^(AE) that will not rot;
they look for a skilled worker
    to set up an idol^(AF) that will not topple.^(AG)

²¹ Do you not know?
    Have you not heard?^(AH)
Has it not been told^(AI) you from the beginning?^(AJ)
    Have you not understood^(AK) since the earth was founded?^(AL)
22 He sits enthroned^(AM) above the circle of the earth,
    and its people are like grasshoppers.^(AN)
He stretches out the heavens^(AO) like a canopy,^(AP)
    and spreads them out like a tent^(AQ) to live in.^(AR)
23 He brings princes^(AS) to naught
    and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.^(AT)
24 No sooner are they planted,
    no sooner are they sown,
    no sooner do they take root^(AU) in the ground,
than he blows^(AV) on them and they wither,^(AW)
    and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff.^(AX)

²⁵ “To whom will you compare me?^(AY)
    Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One.^(AZ)
26 Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens:^(BA)
    Who created^(BB) all these?
He who brings out the starry host^(BC) one by one
    and calls forth each of them by name.
Because of his great power and mighty strength,^(BD)
    not one of them is missing.^(BE)

²⁷ Why do you complain, Jacob?
    Why do you say, Israel,
“My way is hidden from the Lord;
    my cause is disregarded by my God”?^(BF)
28 Do you not know?
    Have you not heard?^(BG)
The Lord is the everlasting^(BH) God,
    the Creator^(BI) of the ends of the earth.^(BJ)
He will not grow tired or weary,^(BK)
    and his understanding no one can fathom.^(BL)
29 He gives strength^(BM) to the weary^(BN)
    and increases the power of the weak.
³⁰ Even youths grow tired and weary,
    and young men^(BO) stumble and fall;^(BP)
31 but those who hope^(BQ) in the Lord
    will renew their strength.^(BR)
They will soar on wings like eagles;^(BS)
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not be faint.^(BT)
