¹⁰ But if Christ is in you,^(A) then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life^[a] because of righteousness.

Present Suffering and Future Glory

¹⁸ I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.^(A)

¹⁷ If some of the branches have been broken off,^(A) and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others^(B) and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root, ¹⁸ do not consider yourself to be superior to those other branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you.^{(C) 19} You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.” ²⁰ Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith.^(D) Do not be arrogant,^(E) but tremble.^{(F) 21} For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.

A Living Sacrifice

12 Therefore, I urge you,^(A) brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice,^(B) holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

The Day Is Near

¹¹ And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come^(A) for you to wake up from your slumber,^(B) because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. ¹² The night is nearly over; the day is almost here.^(C) So let us put aside the deeds of darkness^(D) and put on the armor^(E) of light.

⁷ For none of us lives for ourselves alone,^(A) and none of us dies for ourselves alone.

The Need for Self-Discipline

²⁴ Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize?^(A) Run^(B) in such a way as to get the prize.

¹³ Be on your guard; stand firm^(A) in the faith; be courageous; be strong.^(B)

³¹ I face death every day^(A)—yes, just as surely as I boast about you in Christ Jesus our Lord.
