¹¹ So you too, consider yourselves to be ^(A)dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

¹² Therefore sin is not to ^(B)reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, ¹³ and do not go on ^(C)presenting ^[a]the parts of your body to sin as ^[b]instruments of unrighteousness; but ^(D)present yourselves to God as those who are alive from the dead, and ^[c]your body’s parts as ^[d]instruments of righteousness for God.

² For ^(A)the law of the Spirit of life ^[a]in ^(B)Christ Jesus ^(C)has set you free from the law of sin and of death.

⁴ so that the ^(A)requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us who ^(B)do not walk ^[a]according to the flesh but ^[b]according to the Spirit.

¹² So then, brothers and sisters, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh— ¹³ for ^(A)if you are living in accord with the flesh, you are going to die; but if by the Spirit you are ^(B)putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

¹⁶ But I say, ^(A)walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out ^(B)the desire of the flesh. ¹⁷ For ^(C)the desire of the flesh is against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, ^(D)in order to keep you from doing whatever you want. ¹⁸ But if you are ^(E)led by the Spirit, ^(F)you are not under the Law. ¹⁹ Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: ^(G)sexual immorality, impurity, indecent behavior, ²⁰ idolatry, ^(H)witchcraft, hostilities, ^(I)strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, ^(J)selfish ambition, dissensions, ^(K)factions, ²¹ envy, ^(L)drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not ^(M)inherit the kingdom of God. ²² But ^(N)the fruit of the Spirit is ^(O)love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³ gentleness, ^(P)self-control; against such things ^(Q)there is no law.

²² that, in reference to your former way of life, you are to ^(A)rid yourselves of the ^(B)old ^[a]self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the ^(C)lusts of deceit, ²³ and that you are to be ^(D)renewed in the spirit of your minds, ²⁴ and to ^(E)put on the ^(F)new ^[b]self, which ^[c](G)in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

You Are Built Up in Christ

2 For I want you to know how great a ^(A)struggle I have in your behalf and for those who are at ^(B)Laodicea, and for all those who have not ^[a]personally seen my face, ² that their ^(C)hearts may be encouraged, having been ^(D)knit together in love, and that they would attain to all ^(E)the wealth ^[b]that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a ^(F)true knowledge of ^(G)God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself, ³ in whom are hidden all ^(H)the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. ^4 (I)I say this so that no one will deceive you with ^(J)persuasive arguments. ⁵ For even though I am ^(K)absent in body, I am nevertheless with you in spirit, rejoicing ^[c]to see ^[d]your ^(L)orderly manner and the ^(M)stability of your faith in Christ.

⁶ Therefore, as you have received ^(N)Christ Jesus the Lord, so ^[e](O)walk in Him, ⁷ having been firmly ^(P)rooted and now being ^(Q)built up in Him and ^(R)established ^[f]in ^[g]your faith, just as you ^(S)were instructed, and overflowing ^[h]with gratitude.

^8 (T)See to it that there is no one who takes you captive through ^(U)philosophy and empty deception in accordance with human tradition, in accordance with the ^(V)elementary principles of the world, ^[i]rather than in accordance with Christ. ⁹ For in Him all the ^(W)fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, ¹⁰ and in Him you have been ^(X)made ^[j]complete, and ^(Y)He is the head ^[k]over every ^(Z)ruler and authority;

¹⁴ As ^[a](A)obedient children, do not ^[b](B)be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ^(C)ignorance, ¹⁵ but ^[c](D)like the Holy One who called you, ^[d](E)be holy yourselves also ^(F)in all your behavior; ¹⁶ because it is written: “^(G)You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

^4 (A)These things we write, so that our ^(B)joy may be made complete.

God Is Light

^5 (C)This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that ^(D)God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. ^6 (E)If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we ^(F)lie and ^(G)do not practice the truth; ⁷ but if we ^(H)walk in the Light as ^(I)He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and ^(J)the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
