¹⁵ That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome.^(A)

¹⁶ For I am not ashamed of the gospel,^(B) because it is the power of God^(C) that brings salvation to everyone who believes:^(D) first to the Jew,^(E) then to the Gentile.^{(F) 17} For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed^(G)—a righteousness that is by faith^(H) from first to last,^[a] just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”^[b](I)

God’s Wrath Against Sinful Humanity

¹⁸ The wrath of God^(J) is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness,

¹¹ Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God,^(A) because “the righteous will live by faith.”^[a](B)
