The Fifth Seal: Martyrs
9 When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw (A)underneath the (B)altar the (C)souls of those who had been killed (D)because of the word of God, and because of the (E)testimony which they had maintained; 10 and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “(F)How long, O [a](G)Lord, (H)holy and true, [b]will You refrain from (I)judging and avenging our blood on (J)those who live on the earth?” 11 And a (K)white robe was given to each of them; and they were told that they were to (L)rest for a little while longer, (M)until the number of their fellow servants and their brothers and sisters who were to be killed even as they had been, was (N)completed also.
The Sixth Seal: Terror
12 And I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great (O)earthquake; and the (P)sun became as black as (Q)sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; 13 and (R)the stars of the sky fell to the earth, (S)as a fig tree drops its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind. 14 (T)The sky was split apart like a scroll when it is rolled up, and (U)every mountain and island was removed from its place. 15 Then (V)the kings of the earth and the eminent people, and the commanders and the wealthy and the strong, and every slave and free person hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains; 16 and they *(W)said to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the [c]sight of Him (X)who sits on the throne, and from the (Y)wrath of the Lamb; 17 for (Z)the great day of Their wrath has come, and (AA)who is able to stand?”
An Interlude
7 After this I saw (AB)four angels standing at the (AC)four corners of the earth, holding back (AD)the four winds of the earth (AE)so that no wind would blow on the earth, or on the sea, or on any tree. 2 And I saw another angel ascending (AF)from the rising of the sun, holding the (AG)seal of (AH)the living God; and he called out with a loud voice to the (AI)four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, 3 saying, “(AJ)Do not harm the earth, or the sea, or the trees until we have (AK)sealed the bond-servants of our God on their (AL)foreheads.”
The 144,000
4 And I heard the (AM)number of those who were sealed: (AN)144,000, sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel:

9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under(A) the altar(B) the souls of those who had been slain(C) because of the word of God(D) and the testimony they had maintained. 10 They called out in a loud voice, “How long,(E) Sovereign Lord,(F) holy and true,(G) until you judge the inhabitants of the earth(H) and avenge our blood?”(I) 11 Then each of them was given a white robe,(J) and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters,[a] were killed just as they had been.(K)
12 I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake.(L) The sun turned black(M) like sackcloth(N) made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, 13 and the stars in the sky fell to earth,(O) as figs drop from a fig tree(P) when shaken by a strong wind. 14 The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up,(Q) and every mountain and island was removed from its place.(R)
15 Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free,(S) hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains.(T) 16 They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us(U) and hide us[b] from the face of him who sits on the throne(V) and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17 For the great day(W) of their[c] wrath has come, and who can withstand it?”(X)
144,000 Sealed
7 After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners(Y) of the earth, holding back the four winds(Z) of the earth to prevent(AA) any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree. 2 Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal(AB) of the living God.(AC) He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea:(AD) 3 “Do not harm(AE) the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads(AF) of the servants of our God.” 4 Then I heard the number(AG) of those who were sealed: 144,000(AH) from all the tribes of Israel.
