The Coming of Christ

11 And I saw (A)heaven opened, and behold, a (B)white horse, and He who sat on it is called (C)Faithful and True, and in (D)righteousness He judges and wages war. 12 His (E)eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many (F)crowns; and He has a (G)name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. 13 He is clothed with a (H)robe dipped in blood, and His name is called (I)The Word of God. 14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in (J)fine linen, (K)white and clean, were following Him on white horses. 15 (L)From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that (M)with it He may strike down the nations, and He will [a](N)rule them with a rod of iron; and (O)He treads the [b]wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. 16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has (P)a name written: “(Q)KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

17 Then I saw [c]an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to (R)all the birds that fly in (S)midheaven, “(T)Come, assemble for the great feast of God, 18 so that you may (U)eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of commanders, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, (V)both free and slaves, and (W)small and great.”

19 And I saw (X)the beast and (Y)the kings of the earth and their armies, assembled to make war against Him who (Z)sat on the horse, and against His army.

Doom of the Beast and False Prophet

20 And the beast was seized, and with him the (AA)false prophet who (AB)performed the signs [d](AC)in his presence, by which he (AD)deceived those who had received the (AE)mark of the beast and those who (AF)worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the (AG)lake of (AH)fire, which burns with [e]brimstone. 21 And the rest were killed with the sword which (AI)came from the mouth of Him who (AJ)sat on the horse, and (AK)all the birds were filled with their flesh.

Satan Bound

20 Then I saw (AL)an angel coming down from heaven, holding the (AM)key of the abyss and a great chain [f]in his hand. And he took hold of the (AN)dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and (AO)bound him for a thousand years; and he threw him into the (AP)abyss and shut it and (AQ)sealed it over him, so that he would (AR)not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time.

Then I saw (AS)thrones, and (AT)they sat on them, and (AU)judgment was given to them. And I saw (AV)the souls of those who had been beheaded because of [g]their (AW)testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not (AX)worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the (AY)mark on their foreheads and on their hands; and they (AZ)came to life and (BA)reigned with Christ for a thousand years. The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. (BB)This is the first resurrection. (BC)Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the (BD)second death has no power, but they will be (BE)priests of God and of Christ, and will (BF)reign with Him for a thousand years.

Satan Freed and Doomed

When the thousand years are completed, Satan will be (BG)released from his prison, and will come out to (BH)deceive the nations which are at the (BI)four corners of the earth, (BJ)Gog and Magog, to (BK)gather them together for the war; the number of them is like the (BL)sand of the [h]seashore. And they (BM)came up on the [i]broad plain of the earth and surrounded the (BN)camp of the [j]saints and the (BO)beloved city, and (BP)fire came down from heaven and devoured them. 10 And (BQ)the devil who (BR)deceived them was thrown into the (BS)lake of fire and [k]brimstone, where the (BT)beast and the (BU)false prophet are also; and they will be (BV)tormented day and night forever and ever.

Judgment at the Throne of God

11 Then I saw a great white (BW)throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose [l]presence (BX)earth and heaven fled, and (BY)no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, the (BZ)great and the small, standing before the throne, and [m](CA)books were opened; and another [n]book was opened, which is (CB)the book of life; and the dead (CC)were judged from the things which were written in the [o]books, (CD)according to their deeds. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, and (CE)Death and Hades (CF)gave up the dead who were in them; and they were judged, each one of them (CG)according to their deeds. 14 Then (CH)Death and Hades were thrown into (CI)the lake of fire. This is the (CJ)second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if [p]anyone’s name was not found written in (CK)the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

The Heavenly Warrior Defeats the Beast

11 I saw heaven standing open(A) and there before me was a white horse, whose rider(B) is called Faithful and True.(C) With justice he judges and wages war.(D) 12 His eyes are like blazing fire,(E) and on his head are many crowns.(F) He has a name written on him(G) that no one knows but he himself.(H) 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood,(I) and his name is the Word of God.(J) 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen,(K) white(L) and clean. 15 Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword(M) with which to strike down(N) the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.”[a](O) He treads the winepress(P) of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:(Q)

king of kings and lord of lords.(R)

17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds(S) flying in midair,(T) “Come,(U) gather together for the great supper of God,(V) 18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people,(W) free and slave,(X) great and small.”(Y)

19 Then I saw the beast(Z) and the kings of the earth(AA) and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse(AB) and his army. 20 But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet(AC) who had performed the signs(AD) on its behalf.(AE) With these signs he had deluded(AF) those who had received the mark of the beast(AG) and worshiped its image.(AH) The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake(AI) of burning sulfur.(AJ) 21 The rest were killed with the sword(AK) coming out of the mouth of the rider on the horse,(AL) and all the birds(AM) gorged themselves on their flesh.

The Thousand Years

20 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven,(AN) having the key(AO) to the Abyss(AP) and holding in his hand a great chain. He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan,(AQ) and bound him for a thousand years.(AR) He threw him into the Abyss,(AS) and locked and sealed(AT) it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations(AU) anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.

I saw thrones(AV) on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge.(AW) And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded(AX) because of their testimony about Jesus(AY) and because of the word of God.(AZ) They[b] had not worshiped the beast(BA) or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands.(BB) They came to life and reigned(BC) with Christ a thousand years. (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection.(BD) Blessed(BE) and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death(BF) has no power over them, but they will be priests(BG) of God and of Christ and will reign with him(BH) for a thousand years.

The Judgment of Satan

When the thousand years are over,(BI) Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations(BJ) in the four corners of the earth(BK)—Gog and Magog(BL)—and to gather them for battle.(BM) In number they are like the sand on the seashore.(BN) They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded(BO) the camp of God’s people, the city he loves.(BP) But fire came down from heaven(BQ) and devoured them. 10 And the devil, who deceived them,(BR) was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur,(BS) where the beast(BT) and the false prophet(BU) had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.(BV)

The Judgment of the Dead

11 Then I saw a great white throne(BW) and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence,(BX) and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small,(BY) standing before the throne, and books were opened.(BZ) Another book was opened, which is the book of life.(CA) The dead were judged(CB) according to what they had done(CC) as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades(CD) gave up the dead(CE) that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done.(CF) 14 Then death(CG) and Hades(CH) were thrown into the lake of fire.(CI) The lake of fire is the second death.(CJ) 15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life(CK) was thrown into the lake of fire.
