¹⁵ He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak ^(A)and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. ¹⁶ He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, ^(B)to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, ¹⁷ and that no one may buy or sell except one who has ^[a]the mark or ^(C)the name of the beast, ^(D)or the number of his name.

^18 (E)Here is wisdom. Let him who has ^(F)understanding calculate ^(G)the number of the beast, ^(H)for it is the number of a man: His number is 666.

⁸ And another angel followed, saying, ^(A)“Babylon^[a] is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because ^(B)she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.”

⁹ Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, ^(C)“If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his ^(D)mark on his forehead or on his hand, ¹⁰ he himself ^(E)shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is ^(F)poured out full strength into ^(G)the cup of His indignation. ^(H)He shall be tormented with ^(I)fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. ¹¹ And ^(J)the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”

^19 (A)And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army. ^20 (B)Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and ^(C)those who worshiped his image. ^(D)These two were cast alive into the lake of fire ^(E)burning with brimstone.

² He laid hold of ^(A)the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; ³ and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and ^(B)set a seal on him, ^(C)so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.

The Saints Reign with Christ 1,000 Years

⁴ And I saw ^(D)thrones, and they sat on them, and ^(E)judgment was committed to them. Then I saw ^(F)the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, ^(G)who had not worshiped the beast ^(H)or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they ^(I)lived and ^(J)reigned with Christ for ^[a]a thousand years. ⁵ But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
