¹⁰ Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, ^(A)“Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, ^(B)who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.

⁸ Be ^[a]sober, be ^[b]vigilant; ^[c]because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

^27 (A)nor give ^[a]place to the devil.

The Way of the Righteous and the End of the Ungodly

¹² Now ^(A)brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. ^13 (B)And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But ^(C)he who ^[a]endures to the end shall be saved.

Jesus Heals a Great Multitude^(A)

¹⁷ And He came down with them and stood on a level place with a crowd of His disciples ^(B)and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him and be healed of their diseases, ¹⁸ as well as those who were tormented with unclean spirits. And they were healed. ¹⁹ And the whole multitude ^(C)sought to ^(D)touch Him, for ^(E)power went out from Him and healed them all.

The Beatitudes^(F)

²⁰ Then He lifted up His eyes toward His disciples, and said:

The World’s Hatred

^18 (A)“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. ^19 (B)If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet ^(C)because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. ²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you, ^(D)‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. ^(E)If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. ²¹ But ^(F)all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me. ^22 (G)If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, ^(H)but now they have no excuse for their sin. ^23 (I)He who hates Me hates My Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them ^(J)the works which no one else did, they would have no sin; but now they have ^(K)seen and also hated both Me and My Father. ²⁵ But this happened that the word might be fulfilled which is written in their law, ^(L)‘They hated Me without a cause.’

The Coming Rejection

^26 (M)“But when the ^[a]Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, ^(N)He will testify of Me. ²⁷ And ^(O)you also will bear witness, because ^(P)you have been with Me from the beginning.

^11 (A)“Now whatever city or town you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and stay there till you go out. ¹² And when you go into a household, greet it. ^13 (B)If the household is worthy, let your peace come upon it. ^(C)But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. ^14 (D)And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, ^(E)shake off the dust from your feet. ¹⁵ Assuredly, I say to you, ^(F)it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!

Persecutions Are Coming^(G)

^16 (H)“Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. ^(I)Therefore be wise as serpents and ^(J)harmless^[a] as doves. ¹⁷ But beware of men, for ^(K)they will deliver you up to councils and ^(L)scourge you in their synagogues. ^18 (M)You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. ^19 (N)But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For ^(O)it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; ^20 (P)for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.

^21 (Q)“Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. ²² And ^(R)you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. ^(S)But he who endures to the end will be saved. ^23 (T)When they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For assuredly, I say to you, you will not have ^(U)gone through the cities of Israel ^(V)before the Son of Man comes.

^24 (W)“A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. ²⁵ It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If ^(X)they have called the master of the house ^[b]Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household! ²⁶ Therefore do not fear them. ^(Y)For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.

Jesus Teaches the Fear of God^(Z)

²⁷ “Whatever I tell you in the dark, ^(AA)speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. ^28 (AB)And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather ^(AC)fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in ^[c]hell. ²⁹ Are not two ^(AD)sparrows sold for a ^[d]copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. ^30 (AE)But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. ³¹ Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Confess Christ Before Men^(AF)

^32 (AG)“Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, ^(AH)him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. ^33 (AI)But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.

Christ Brings Division^(AJ)

^34 (AK)“Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. ³⁵ For I have come to ^(AL)‘set^[e] a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; ³⁶ and ^(AM)‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’ ^37 (AN)He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. ^38 (AO)And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. ^39 (AP)He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.

A Cup of Cold Water^(AQ)

^40 (AR)“He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. ^41 (AS)He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. ^42 (AT)And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.”
