21 Then [c]a (M)strong angel (N)picked up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, “So will Babylon, (O)the great city, be thrown down with violence, and (P)will never be found again. 22 And (Q)the sound of harpists, musicians, flute players, and trumpeters will never be heard in you again; and no craftsman of any craft will ever be found in you again; and the (R)sound of a mill will never be heard in you again; 23 and the light of a lamp will never shine in you again; and the (S)voice of the groom and bride will never be heard in you again; for your (T)merchants were the powerful people of the earth, because all the nations were deceived (U)by your witchcraft. 24 And in her was found the (V)blood of prophets and of [d]saints, and of (W)all who have been slaughtered on the earth.”

For God has judged her

The Finality of Babylon’s Doom
21 Then a mighty angel(J) picked up a boulder the size of a large millstone and threw it into the sea,(K) and said:
“With such violence
the great city(L) of Babylon will be thrown down,
never to be found again.
22 The music of harpists and musicians, pipers and trumpeters,
will never be heard in you again.(M)
No worker of any trade
will ever be found in you again.
The sound of a millstone
will never be heard in you again.(N)
23 The light of a lamp
will never shine in you again.
The voice of bridegroom and bride
will never be heard in you again.(O)
Your merchants were the world’s important people.(P)
By your magic spell(Q) all the nations were led astray.
24 In her was found the blood of prophets and of God’s holy people,(R)
of all who have been slaughtered on the earth.”(S)
