The River of Life

22 Then the angel^[a] showed me ^(A)the river of ^(B)the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb

¹⁷ The Spirit and ^(A)the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And ^(B)let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the ^(C)water of life without price.

⁶ And he said to me, ^(A)“It is done! ^(B)I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. ^(C)To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.

¹⁰ A river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and there it divided and became four rivers. ¹¹ The name of the first is the Pishon. It is the one that flowed around the whole land of ^(A)Havilah, where there is gold. ¹² And the gold of that land is good; bdellium and onyx stone are there. ¹³ The name of the second river is the Gihon. It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Cush. ¹⁴ And the name of the third river is the ^(B)Tigris, which flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

Water Flowing from the Temple

47 Then he brought me back to ^(A)the door of the temple, and behold, ^(B)water was issuing from below ^(C)the threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east). The water was flowing down from below the south end of the threshold of the temple, south of ^(D)the altar.

⁵ Again he measured a thousand, and it was a river that I could not pass through, for the water had risen. It was deep enough to swim in, a river that could not be passed through.

⁷ As I went back, I saw on the bank of the river ^(A)very many trees on the one side and on the other. ⁸ And he said to me, “This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into ^(B)the Arabah, and enters the sea;^[a] when the water flows into ^(C)the sea, the water will become fresh.^{[b] 9} And wherever the river goes,^[c] every living creature that swarms will live, and there will be very many fish. For this water goes there, that the waters of the sea^[d] may become fresh; so everything will live where the river goes.

¹² And on the banks, ^(A)on both sides of the river, there will grow ^(B)all kinds of trees for food. ^(C)Their leaves will not wither, nor their fruit fail, ^(D)but they will bear fresh fruit every month, because the water for them flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and ^(E)their leaves for healing.”
