John’s Vision of Christ

⁹ I, John,^(A) your brother and companion in the suffering^(B) and kingdom^(C) and patient endurance^(D) that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the word of God^(E) and the testimony of Jesus.^(F)

⁷ To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor^(A) and immortality,^(B) he will give eternal life.^(C)

³ Not only so, but we^[a] also glory in our sufferings,^(A) because we know that suffering produces perseverance;^{(B) 4} perseverance, character; and character, hope.

⁴ Therefore, among God’s churches we boast^(A) about your perseverance and faith^(B) in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.^(C)

⁵ All this is evidence^(D) that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy^(E) of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering.

³⁴ You suffered along with those in prison^(A) and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.^{(B) 35} So do not throw away your confidence;^(C) it will be richly rewarded.

³⁶ You need to persevere^(D) so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.^(E)

² At once I was in the Spirit,^(A) and there before me was a throne in heaven^(B) with someone sitting on it.

This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness^(B) on the part of God’s people.^(C)

¹² This calls for patient endurance^(A) on the part of the people of God^(B) who keep his commands^(C) and remain faithful to Jesus.
