Psalm 33

Praise to the Creator

¹Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous ones;
praise from the upright is beautiful.^(A)
²Praise the Lord with the lyre;
make music to Him with a ten-stringed harp.^(B)
³Sing a new song to Him;^(C)
play skillfully on the strings, with a joyful shout.^(D)

⁴For the word of the Lord is right,
and all His work is trustworthy.^(E)
⁵He loves righteousness and justice;^(F)
the earth is full of the Lord’s unfailing love.^(G)

⁶The heavens were made by the word of the Lord,^(H)
and all the stars, by the breath of His mouth.^(I)
⁷He gathers the waters of the sea into a heap;^[a]
He puts the depths into storehouses.^(J)
⁸Let the whole earth tremble before the Lord;
let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.^(K)
⁹For He spoke, and it came into being;
He commanded, and it came into existence.^(L)

¹⁰The Lord frustrates the counsel of the nations;
He thwarts the plans of the peoples.^(M)
¹¹The counsel of the Lord stands forever,
the plans of His heart from generation to generation.^(N)
¹²Happy is the nation whose God is Yahweh—
the people He has chosen to be His own possession!^(O)

¹³The Lord looks down from heaven;
He observes everyone.^(P)
¹⁴He gazes on all the inhabitants of the earth
from His dwelling place.^(Q)
¹⁵He alone shapes their hearts;
He considers all their works.^(R)
¹⁶A king is not saved by a large army;
a warrior will not be delivered by great strength.^(S)
¹⁷The horse is a false hope for safety;
it provides no escape by its great power.^(T)

¹⁸Now the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him—
those who depend on His faithful love^(U)
¹⁹to deliver them from death
and to keep them alive in famine.^(V)

²⁰We wait for Yahweh;^(W)
He is our help and shield.^(X)
²¹For our hearts rejoice in Him^(Y)
because we trust in His holy name.^(Z)
²²May Your faithful love rest on us, Yahweh,
for we put our hope in You.^(AA)

Psalm 34

The Lord Delivers the Righteous

Concerning David, when he pretended to be insane in the presence of Abimelech,^[b]^(AB) who drove him out, and he departed.

¹I^[c] will praise the Lord at all times;
His praise will always be on my lips.^(AC)
²I will boast in the Lord;^(AD)
the humble will hear and be glad.^(AE)
³Proclaim Yahweh’s greatness with me;^(AF)
let us exalt His name together.^(AG)

⁴I sought the Lord, and He answered me
and delivered me from all my fears.^(AH)
⁵Those who look to Him are^[d] radiant with joy;^(AI)
their faces will never be ashamed.^(AJ)
⁶This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him
and saved him from all his troubles.^(AK)
⁷The Angel of the Lord encamps
around those who fear Him, and rescues them.^(AL)

⁸Taste and see that the Lord is good.^(AM)
How happy is the man who takes refuge in Him!^(AN)
⁹You who are His holy ones, fear Yahweh,
for those who fear Him lack nothing.^(AO)
¹⁰Young lions^[e] lack food and go hungry,^(AP)
but those who seek the Lord
will not lack any good thing.^(AQ)

¹¹Come, children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.^(AR)
¹²Who is the man who delights in life,
loving a long life to enjoy what is good?^(AS)
¹³Keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from deceitful speech.^(AT)
¹⁴Turn away from evil and do what is good;^(AU)
seek peace and pursue it.^(AV)

¹⁵The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
and His ears are open to their cry for help.^(AW)
¹⁶The face of the Lord is set
against those who do what is evil,^(AX)
to erase^[f] all memory of them from the earth.^(AY)
¹⁷The righteous^[g] cry out, and the Lord hears,
and delivers them from all their troubles.^(AZ)
¹⁸The Lord is near the brokenhearted;
He saves those crushed in spirit.^(BA)

¹⁹Many adversities come to the one who is righteous,
but the Lord delivers him from them all.^(BB)
²⁰He protects all his bones;
not one of them is broken.^(BC)
²¹Evil brings death to the wicked,
and those who hate the righteous will be punished.^(BD)
²²The Lord redeems the life of His servants,
and all who take refuge in Him will not be punished.^(BE)

Psalm 33

¹Sing joyfully^(A) to the Lord, you righteous;
    it is fitting^(B) for the upright^(C) to praise him.
²Praise the Lord with the harp;^(D)
    make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.^(E)
³Sing to him a new song;^(F)
    play skillfully, and shout for joy.^(G)

⁴For the word of the Lord is right^(H) and true;^(I)

he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.
¹¹But the plans of the Lord stand firm^(Y) forever,
the purposes^(Z) of his heart through all generations.

¹²Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,^(AA)
    the people he chose^(AB) for his inheritance.^(AC)
¹³From heaven the Lord looks down^(AD)
    and sees all mankind;^(AE)
¹⁴from his dwelling place^(AF) he watches
    all who live on earth—
¹⁵he who forms^(AG) the hearts of all,
    who considers everything they do.^(AH)

¹⁶No king is saved by the size of his army;^(AI)
    no warrior escapes by his great strength.
¹⁷A horse^(AJ) is a vain hope for deliverance;
    despite all its great strength it cannot save.
¹⁸But the eyes^(AK) of the Lord are on those who fear him,
    on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,^(AL)
¹⁹to deliver them from death^(AM)
    and keep them alive in famine.^(AN)

²⁰We wait^(AO) in hope for the Lord;
    he is our help and our shield.
²¹In him our hearts rejoice,^(AP)

Of David. When he pretended to be insane^(AS) before Abimelek, who drove him away, and he left.

¹I will extol the Lord at all times;^(AT)
    his praise will always be on my lips.
²I will glory^(AU) in the Lord;
    let the afflicted hear and rejoice.^(AV)
³Glorify the Lord^(AW) with me;
    let us exalt^(AX) his name together.

⁴I sought the Lord,^(AY) and he answered me;
    he delivered^(AZ) me from all my fears.
⁵Those who look to him are radiant;^(BA)
    their faces are never covered with shame.^(BB)
⁶This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
    he saved him out of all his troubles.^(BC)
⁷The angel of the Lord^(BD) encamps around those who fear him,
    and he delivers^(BE) them.

⁸Taste and see that the Lord is good;^(BF)
    blessed is the one who takes refuge^(BG) in him.
⁹Fear the Lord,^(BH) you his holy people,
    for those who fear him lack nothing.^(BI)
¹⁰The lions may grow weak and hungry,
    but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.^(BJ)
¹¹Come, my children, listen^(BK) to me;
    I will teach you^(BL) the fear of the Lord.^(BM)
¹²Whoever of you loves life^(BN)
    and desires to see many good days,
¹³keep your tongue^(BO) from evil
    and your lips from telling lies.^(BP)
¹⁴Turn from evil and do good;^(BQ)
    seek peace^(BR) and pursue it.

¹⁵The eyes of the Lord^(BS) are on the righteous,^(BT)
and his ears are attentive^(BU) to their cry;
¹⁶but the face of the Lord is against^(BV) those who do evil,^(BW)
to blot out their name^(BX) from the earth.

¹⁷The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears^(BY) them;
he delivers them from all their troubles.
¹⁸The Lord is close^(BZ) to the brokenhearted^(CA)
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

¹⁹The righteous person may have many troubles,^(CB)
but the Lord delivers him from them all;^(CC)
²⁰he protects all his bones,
not one of them will be broken.^(CD)

²¹Evil will slay the wicked;^(CE)
the foes of the righteous will be condemned.
²²The Lord will rescue^(CF) his servants;
no one who takes refuge^(CG) in him will be condemned.
