²² The stone^(A) the builders rejected
    has become the cornerstone;^(B)
23 the Lord has done this,
    and it is marvelous^(C) in our eyes.
²⁴ The Lord has done it this very day;
    let us rejoice today and be glad.^(D)

“See, I lay a stone in Zion,^(A) a tested stone,^(B)
    a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation;^(C)
the one who relies on it
    will never be stricken with panic.^(D)

¹⁴ He will be a holy place;^(A)
    for both Israel and Judah he will be
a stone^(B) that causes people to stumble^(C)
    and a rock that makes them fall.^(D)
And for the people of Jerusalem he will be
    a trap and a snare.^(E)
15 Many of them will stumble;^(F)
    they will fall and be broken,
    they will be snared and captured.”

¹³ The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy,^(A)
    he is the one you are to fear,^(B)
    he is the one you are to dread.^(C)
14 He will be a holy place;^(D)
    for both Israel and Judah he will be
a stone^(E) that causes people to stumble^(F)
    and a rock that makes them fall.^(G)
And for the people of Jerusalem he will be
    a trap and a snare.^(H)
15 Many of them will stumble;^(I)
    they will fall and be broken,

¹⁶ Bind up this testimony of warning^(J)
    and seal^(K) up God’s instruction among my disciples.
¹⁷ I will wait^(L) for the Lord,
    who is hiding^(M) his face from the descendants of Jacob.
I will put my trust in him.^(N)

⁴ From Judah will come the cornerstone,^(A)
    from him the tent peg,^(B)
from him the battle bow,^(C)
    from him every ruler.

³ “My anger burns against the shepherds,
    and I will punish the leaders;^(A)
for the Lord Almighty will care
    for his flock, the people of Judah,
    and make them like a proud horse in battle.^(B)
4 From Judah will come the cornerstone,^(C)
    from him the tent peg,^(D)
from him the battle bow,^(E)
    from him every ruler.
⁵ Together they^[a] will be like warriors in battle
    trampling their enemy into the mud of the streets.^(F)
They will fight because the Lord is with them,
    and they will put the enemy horsemen to shame.^(G)

⁶ “I will strengthen^(H) Judah
    and save the tribes of Joseph.
I will restore them
    because I have compassion^(I) on them.^(J)
They will be as though
    I had not rejected them,
for I am the Lord their God
    and I will answer^(K) them.
⁷ The Ephraimites will become like warriors,
    and their hearts will be glad as with wine.^(L)
Their children will see it and be joyful;
    their hearts will rejoice^(M) in the Lord.
⁸ I will signal^(N) for them
    and gather them in.
Surely I will redeem them;
    they will be as numerous^(O) as before.
⁹ Though I scatter them among the peoples,
    yet in distant lands they will remember me.^(P)
They and their children will survive,
    and they will return.
