Psalm 95

¹Come,^(A) let us sing for joy^(B) to the Lord;
let us shout aloud^(C) to the Rock^(D) of our salvation.
²Let us come before him^(E) with thanksgiving^(F)
and extol him with music^(G) and song.

³For the Lord is the great God,^(H)
    the great King^(I) above all gods.^(J)
⁴In his hand are the depths of the earth,^(K)
    and the mountain peaks belong to him.
⁵The sea is his, for he made it,
    and his hands formed the dry land.^(L)

⁶Come, let us bow down^(M) in worship,^(N)
    let us kneel^(O) before the Lord our Maker;^(P)
⁷for he is our God
    and we are the people of his pasture,^(Q)
    the flock under his care.

Today, if only you would hear his voice,
⁸“Do not harden your hearts^(R) as you did at Meribah,^[a]^(S)
    as you did that day at Massah^[b] in the wilderness,^(T)
⁹where your ancestors tested^(U) me;
    they tried me, though they had seen what I did.
¹⁰For forty years^(V) I was angry with that generation;
    I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray,^(W)
    and they have not known my ways.’^(X)
¹¹So I declared on oath^(Y) in my anger,
    ‘They shall never enter my rest.’”^(Z)

18 The word of the Lord came to me: ²“What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel:

“‘The parents eat sour grapes,
and the children’s teeth are set on edge’?^(A)

³“As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, you will no longer quote this proverb^(B) in Israel. ⁴For everyone belongs to me, the parent as well as the child—both alike belong to me. The one who sins^(C) is the one who will die.^(D)

Ezekiel 18:25-32

²⁵“Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’^(A) Hear, you Israelites: Is my way unjust?^(B) Is it not your ways that are unjust? ²⁶If a righteous person turns from their righteousness and commits sin, they will die for it; because of the sin they have committed they will die. ²⁷But if a wicked person turns away from the wickedness they have committed and does what is just and right, they will save their life.^(C) ²⁸Because they consider all the offenses they have committed and turn away from them, that person will surely live; they will not die.^(D) ²⁹Yet the Israelites say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ Are my ways unjust, people of Israel? Is it not your ways that are unjust?

³⁰“Therefore, you Israelites, I will judge each of you according to your own ways, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent!^(E) Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall.^(F) ³¹Rid^(G) yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart^(H) and a new spirit. Why^(I) will you die, people of Israel?^(J) ³²For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent^(K) and live!^(L)

Closing Appeal for Steadfastness and Unity

4 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you whom I love and long for,^(A) my joy and crown, stand firm^(B) in the Lord in this way, dear friends!

²I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to be of the same mind^(C) in the Lord. ³Yes, and I ask you, my true companion, help these women since they have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers,^(D) whose names are in the book of life.^(E)

Final Exhortations

⁴Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!^(F) ⁵Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.^(G) ⁶Do not be anxious about anything,^(H) but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.^(I) ⁷And the peace of God,^(J) which transcends all understanding,^(K) will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

⁸Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. ⁹Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice.^(L) And the God of peace^(M) will be with you.

⁹I pray for them.^(A) I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me,^(B) for they are yours. ¹⁰All I have is yours, and all you have is mine.^(C) And glory has come to me through them. ¹¹I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world,^(D) and I am coming to you.^(E) Holy Father, protect them by the power of^[a] your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one^(F) as we are one.^(G) ¹²While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by^[b] that name you gave me. ¹³“I am coming to you now,^(K) but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy^(L) within them. ¹⁴I have given them your word and the world has hated them,^(M) for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.^(N) ¹⁵My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.^(O) ¹⁶They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.^(P) ¹⁷Sanctify them by^[c] the truth; your word is truth.^(Q) ¹⁸As you sent me into the world,^(R) I have sent them into the world.^(S) ¹⁹For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.^(T)
