Psalm 72:1-7

New International Version

Psalm 72

Of Solomon.

¹Endow the king with your justice,^(A) O God,
the royal son with your righteousness.
²May he judge your people in righteousness,^(B)
your afflicted ones with justice.

³May the mountains bring prosperity to the people,
    the hills the fruit of righteousness.
⁴May he defend the afflicted^(C) among the people
    and save the children of the needy;^(D)
    may he crush the oppressor.^(E)
⁵May he endure^[a]^(F) as long as the sun,
    as long as the moon, through all generations.^(G)
⁶May he be like rain^(H) falling on a mown field,
    like showers watering the earth.
⁷In his days may the righteous flourish^(I)
    and prosperity abound till the moon is no more.

Isaiah 30:19-26

¹⁹People of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more.^(A) How gracious he will be when you cry for help!^(B) As soon as he hears, he will answer^(C) you. ²⁰Although the Lord gives you the bread^(D) of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers^(E) will be hidden^(F) no more; with your own eyes you will see them. ²¹Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice^(G) behind you, saying, “This is the way;^(H) walk in it.” ²²Then you will desecrate your idols^(I) overlaid with silver and your images covered with gold;^(J) you will throw them away like a menstrual^(K) cloth and say to them, “Away with you!^(L)”

²³He will also send you rain^(M) for the seed you sow in the ground, and the food that comes from the land will be rich^(N) and plentiful.^(O) In that day^(P) your cattle will graze in broad meadows.^(Q) ²⁴The oxen^(R) and donkeys that work the soil will eat fodder^(S) and mash, spread out with fork^(T) and shovel. ²⁵In the day of great slaughter,^(U) when the towers^(V) fall, streams of water will flow^(W) on every high mountain and every lofty hill. ²⁶The moon will shine like the sun,^(X) and the sunlight will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven full days, when the Lord binds up the bruises of his people and heals^(Y) the wounds he inflicted.

Acts 13:16-25

¹⁶Standing up, Paul motioned with his hand^(A) and said: “Fellow Israelites and you Gentiles who worship God, listen to me! ¹⁷The God of the people of Israel chose our ancestors; he made the people prosper during their stay in Egypt; with mighty power he led them out of that country;^(B) ¹⁸for about forty years he endured their conduct^[a]^(C) in the wilderness;^(D) ¹⁹and he overthrew seven nations in Canaan,^(E) giving their land to his people^(F) as their inheritance.^(G) ²⁰All this took about 450 years.

“After this, God gave them judges^(H) until the time of Samuel the prophet.^(I) ²¹Then the people asked for a king,^(J) and he gave them Saul^(K) son of Kish, of the tribe of Benjamin,^(L) who ruled forty years. ²²After removing Saul,^(M) he made David their king.^(N) God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart;^(O) he will do everything I want him to do.’^(P)

²³“From this man’s descendants^(Q) God has brought to Israel the Savior^(R) Jesus,^(S) as he promised.^(T) ²⁴Before the coming of Jesus, John preached repentance and baptism to all the people of Israel.^(U) ²⁵As John was completing his work,^(V) he said: ‘Who do you suppose I am? I am not the one you are looking for.^(W) But there is one coming after me whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.’^(X)
