Psalm 62[a]

For the director of music. For Jeduthun. A psalm of David.

Truly my soul finds rest(A) in God;(B)
    my salvation comes from him.
Truly he is my rock(C) and my salvation;(D)
    he is my fortress,(E) I will never be shaken.(F)

How long will you assault me?
    Would all of you throw me down—
    this leaning wall,(G) this tottering fence?
Surely they intend to topple me
    from my lofty place;
    they take delight in lies.
With their mouths they bless,
    but in their hearts they curse.[b](H)

Yes, my soul, find rest in God;(I)
    my hope comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
    he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my honor depend on God[c];
    he is my mighty rock, my refuge.(J)
Trust in him at all times, you people;(K)
    pour out your hearts to him,(L)
    for God is our refuge.

Surely the lowborn(M) are but a breath,(N)
    the highborn are but a lie.
If weighed on a balance,(O) they are nothing;
    together they are only a breath.
10 Do not trust in extortion(P)
    or put vain hope in stolen goods;(Q)
though your riches increase,
    do not set your heart on them.(R)

11 One thing God has spoken,
    two things I have heard:
“Power belongs to you, God,(S)
12     and with you, Lord, is unfailing love”;(T)
and, “You reward everyone
    according to what they have done.”(U)

Psalm 62

For the worship leader, Jeduthun. A song of David.

My soul quietly waits for the True God alone;
    my salvation comes from Him.
He alone is my rock and my deliverance,
    my citadel high on the hill; I will not be shaken.

How long will you attack a man?
    How long will all of you strive to crush your prey
    when he’s like a leaning fence or a wall on the verge of collapse?
Their only purpose in life is to knock him down from his prominent position;
    they love deceit.
When others are around, they speak a blessing on someone,
    but inwardly they are mumbling a curse.

[pause]

My soul quietly waits for the True God alone
    because I hope only in Him.
He alone is my rock and deliverance,
    my citadel high on a hill;
    I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my significance depend ultimately on God;
    the core of my strength, my shelter, is in the True God.

Have faith in Him in all circumstances, dear people.
    Open up your heart to Him;
    the True God shelters us in His arms.

[pause]

Human beings disappear like a breath;
    even people of rank live artificial lives.
Their weight is that of a breath in a balance—nothing.
    Added together, they’re still lighter than air.
10 Do not resort to oppression;
    resist the temptation of ill-gotten gain.
    If you achieve wealth, don’t let your heart get attached.

11 The True God spoke this once,
    and twice I’ve heard:
That You, the True God, hold all power;
12 Your love never fails, O Lord,
    for You pay every person back
    according to his deeds.

62 1-2 God, the one and only—
    I’ll wait as long as he says.
Everything I need comes from him,
    so why not?
He’s solid rock under my feet,
    breathing room for my soul,
An impregnable castle:
    I’m set for life.

3-4 How long will you gang up on me?
    How long will you run with the bullies?
There’s nothing to you, any of you—
    rotten floorboards, worm-eaten rafters,
Anthills plotting to bring down mountains,
    far gone in make-believe.
You talk a good line,
    but every “blessing” breathes a curse.

5-6 God, the one and only—
    I’ll wait as long as he says.
Everything I hope for comes from him,
    so why not?
He’s solid rock under my feet,
    breathing room for my soul,
An impregnable castle:
    I’m set for life.

7-8 My help and glory are in God
    —granite-strength and safe-harbor-God—
So trust him absolutely, people;
    lay your lives on the line for him.
    God is a safe place to be.

Man as such is smoke,
    woman as such, a mirage.
Put them together, they’re nothing;
    two times nothing is nothing.

10 And a windfall, if it comes—
    don’t make too much of it.

11 God said this once and for all;
    how many times
Have I heard it repeated?
    “Strength comes
Straight from God.”

12 Love to you, Lord God!
    You pay a fair wage for a good day’s work!

Dios, el único refugio

Para el director del coro; según Jedutún. Salmo de David.

62 En Dios solamente espera en silencio mi alma(A);

Ellos solamente consultan para derribarlo de su eminencia;
En la falsedad se deleitan(F);
Bendicen con la boca,
Pero por dentro maldicen(G). (Selah)

Alma mía, espera en silencio solamente en Dios(H),
Pues de Él viene mi esperanza.
Solo Él es mi roca y mi salvación(I),
Mi refugio, nunca seré sacudido.
En Dios descansan mi salvación y mi gloria(J);
La roca de mi fortaleza, mi refugio, está en Dios(K).
Confíen en Él en todo tiempo(L),
Oh pueblo; derramen su corazón delante de Él(M);
Dios es nuestro refugio. (Selah)

Los hombres de baja condición(N) solo son vanidad(O), y los de alto rango son mentira(P);
En la balanza suben(Q),
Todos juntos pesan menos que un soplo.
10 No confíen ustedes en la opresión(R),
Ni en el robo pongan su esperanza(S);
Si las riquezas aumentan, no pongan el corazón en ellas(T).

11 Una vez ha hablado Dios(U);
Dos veces he oído esto:
Que de Dios es el poder(V);
12 Y Tuya es, oh Señor, la misericordia(W),
Pues Tú pagas al hombre conforme a sus obras(X).
