12 For it is (A)not an enemy who taunts me,
Then I could endure it;
Nor is it one who hates me who (B)has exalted himself against me,
Then I could hide myself from him.
13 But it is you, a man [a]my equal,
My (C)companion and my (D)confidant;
14 We who had sweet [b]fellowship together,
(E)Walked in the house of God among the commotion.
15 May [c]death come (F)deceitfully upon them;
May they (G)go down alive to [d]Sheol,
For evil is in their dwelling, in their midst.

16 As for me, I shall (H)call upon God,
And the Lord will save me.
17 (I)Evening and (J)morning and at (K)noon, I will complain and moan,
And He will hear my voice.
18 He will (L)redeem my soul in peace [e]from the battle which is against me,
For they are (M)many who are aggressive toward me.
19 God will (N)hear and humiliate them—
Even the one (O)who [f]sits enthroned from ancient times— Selah
With whom there [g]is no change,
And who (P)do not fear God.
20 He has put forth his hands against (Q)those who were at peace with him;
He has [h](R)violated his covenant.
21 His [i]speech was (S)smoother than butter,
But his heart was war;
His words were (T)softer than oil,
Yet they were drawn (U)swords.

22 (V)Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you;
(W)He will never allow the righteous to [j](X)be shaken.
23 But You, God, will bring them down to the (Y)pit of destruction;
(Z)Men of bloodshed and deceit will (AA)not live out half their days.
But I will (AB)trust in You.
