45 My heart is moved with a good theme;
I ^[c]address my ^[d]verses to the ^[e]King;
My tongue is the pen of ^(A)a ready writer.
²You are the most handsome of the sons of mankind;
^(B)Grace is poured ^[f]upon Your lips;
Therefore God has ^(C)blessed You forever.

³Strap ^(D)Your sword on Your thigh, ^[g]^(E)Mighty One,
In Your splendor and majesty!
⁴And in Your majesty ride on victoriously,
For the cause of truth, ^(F)humility, and righteousness;
Let Your ^(G)right hand teach You ^[h]awesome things.
⁵Your ^(H)arrows are sharp;
The ^(I)peoples fall under You;
Your arrows are ^(J)in the heart of the King’s enemies.

⁶^(K)Your throne, God, is forever and ever;
^(L)The scepter of Your kingdom is a scepter of justice.
⁷You have ^(M)loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
Therefore God, Your God, has ^(N)anointed You
With the oil of joy above Your companions.
⁸All Your garments are fragrant with ^(O)myrrh, aloes, and cassia;
From ivory palaces ^(P)stringed instruments have made You joyful.
⁹Kings’ daughters are among ^(Q)Your noble women;
At Your ^(R)right hand stands the queen in ^(S)gold from Ophir.

¹⁰Listen, daughter, look and incline your ear:
^(T)Forget your people and your father’s house;
¹¹Then the King will crave your beauty.
Because He is your ^(U)Lord, ^(V)bow down to Him.
¹²The daughter of ^(W)Tyre will come with a gift;
The ^(X)wealthy among the people will seek your favor.

¹³The King’s daughter is all glorious within;
Her clothing is ^(Y)interwoven with gold.
¹⁴She will be ^(Z)brought to the King ^(AA)in colorful garments;
The ^(AB)virgins, her companions who follow her,
Will be brought to You.
¹⁵They will be brought with joy and rejoicing;
They will enter into the King’s palace.

¹⁶In place of your fathers will be your sons;
You shall make them princes in all the earth.
¹⁷I will make ^(AC)Your name known among all generations;
Therefore the peoples ^(AD)will praise You forever and ever.

47 ^(A)Clap your hands, all you peoples;
^(B)Shout to God with a voice of joy.
²For the Lord Most High is to be ^(C)feared,
A ^(D)great King over all the earth.
³He ^(E)subdues peoples under us
And nations under our feet.
⁴He chooses our ^(F)inheritance for us,
The ^(G)pride of Jacob whom He loves. Selah

⁵God has ^(H)ascended ^[a]with a shout,
The Lord, ^[b]with the ^(I)sound of a trumpet.
⁶^(J)Sing praises to God, sing praises;
Sing praises to ^(K)our King, sing praises.
⁷For God is the ^(L)King of all the earth;
Sing praises ^(M)with a psalm of wisdom.
⁸God ^(N)reigns over the nations,
God ^[c]sits on ^(O)His holy throne.

48 ^(A)Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised
In the ^(B)city of our God, His ^(C)holy mountain.
²^(D)Beautiful in elevation, ^(E)the joy of the whole earth,
Is Mount Zion in the far north,
The ^(F)city of the great King.
³In its palaces,
God has made Himself known as a ^(G)stronghold.

⁴For, behold, the ^(H)kings arrived,
They passed by together.
⁵They saw it, then they were amazed;
They were ^(I)terrified, they fled in a hurry.
⁶^[a]Panic seized them there,
Anguish, as that of ^(J)a woman in childbirth.
⁷With the ^(K)east wind
You ^(L)smash the ^(M)ships of Tarshish.
⁸Just as we have heard, so have we seen
In the city of the Lord of armies, in the city of our God;
God will ^(N)establish her forever. Selah

⁹We have thought over ^(O)Your goodness, God,
In the midst of Your temple.
¹⁰As is Your ^(P)name, God,
So is Your ^(Q)praise to the ends of the earth;
Your ^(R)right hand is full of righteousness.
¹¹Mount ^(S)Zion shall be glad,
The ^(T)daughters of Judah shall rejoice
Because of Your judgments.
¹²Walk around Zion and encircle her;
Count her ^(U)towers;
¹³Consider her ^(V)ramparts;
Go through her palaces,
So that you may ^(W)tell of her to the next generation.

Our God forever and ever;

Isaiah 9:1-7

Birth and Reign of the Prince of Peace

9 ^[a]But there will be no more ^(A)gloom for her who was in anguish. In earlier times He ^(B)treated the ^(C)land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali with contempt, but later on He will make it glorious, by the way of the sea, on the other side of the Jordan, Galilee of the ^[b]Gentiles.

²^[c]^(D)The people who walk in darkness
Will see a great light;
Those who live in a dark land,
The light will shine on them.
³^(E)You will multiply the nation,
You ^(F)will ^[d]increase ^[e]their joy;
They will rejoice in Your presence
As with the joy ^[f]of harvest,
As people ^(G)rejoice when they divide the spoils.
⁴For ^(H)You will break the yoke of their burden and the staff on their shoulders,
The rod of their ^(I)oppressor, as ^[g]at the battle of ^(J)Midian.
⁵For every boot of the marching warrior in the roar of battle,
And cloak rolled in blood, will be for burning, fuel for the fire.
⁶For a ^(K)Child will be born to us, a ^(L)Son will be given to us;
And the ^(M)government will ^[h]rest ^(N)on His shoulders;
And His name will be called ^(O)Wonderful Counselor, ^(P)Mighty God,
Eternal ^(Q)Father, Prince of ^(R)Peace.
⁷There will be ^(S)no end to the increase of His government or of peace
On the ^(T)throne of David and over ^[i]his kingdom,
To establish it and to uphold it with ^(U)justice and righteousness
From then on and forevermore.
^(V)The zeal of the Lord of armies will accomplish this.

¹²Therefore, ^(A)I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them and have been established in ^(B)the truth which is present with you. ¹³I consider it ^(C)right, as long as I am in ^(D)this earthly ^[a]dwelling, to ^(E)stir you up by way of reminder, ¹⁴knowing that ^(F)the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, ^(G)as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. ¹⁵And I will also be diligent that at any time after my ^(H)departure you will be able to call these things to mind.

Eyewitnesses

¹⁶For we did not follow cleverly devised ^(I)tales when we made known to you the ^(J)power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were ^(K)eyewitnesses of His majesty. ¹⁷For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such a ^(L)^[b]declaration as this was made to Him by the ^(M)Majestic Glory: “This is ^[c]My beloved Son with whom I am well pleased”— ¹⁸and we ourselves heard this ^[d]declaration made from heaven when we were with Him on the ^(N)holy mountain.

¹⁹And so we have ^(O)the prophetic word made more ^(P)sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to ^(Q)a lamp shining in a dark place, until the ^(R)day dawns and the ^(S)morning star arises ^(T)in your hearts. ²⁰But ^(U)know this first of all, that ^(V)no prophecy of Scripture ^[e]becomes a matter of ^[f]someone’s own interpretation, ²¹for ^(W)no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men ^(X)moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

Jesus’ Arrest

⁵⁴^(A)Now they arrested Him and led Him away, and brought Him to the house of the high priest; but ^(B)Peter was following at a distance. ⁵⁵^(C)After they kindled a fire in the middle of ^(D)the courtyard and sat down together, Peter was sitting among them. ⁵⁶And a slave woman, seeing him as he sat in the firelight, and staring at him, said, “This man was with Him as well.” ⁵⁷But he denied it, saying, “I do not know Him, woman!” ⁵⁸And a little later, ^(E)another person saw him and said, “You are one of them too!” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!” ⁵⁹And after about an hour had passed, some other man began to insist, saying, “Certainly this man also was with Him, ^(F)for he, too, is a Galilean.” ⁶⁰But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about!” And immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed. ⁶¹And then ^(G)the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, “^(H)Before a rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times.” ⁶²And he went out and wept bitterly.

⁶³^(I)The men who were holding ^[a]Jesus in custody began mocking Him and beating Him, ⁶⁴and they blindfolded Him and repeatedly asked Him, saying, “^(J)Prophesy, who is the one who hit You?” ⁶⁵And they were saying many other things against Him, ^(K)blaspheming.

Jesus before the Sanhedrin

⁶⁶^(L)When it was day, ^(M)the ^[b]Council of elders of the people assembled, both chief priests and scribes, and they led Him away to their ^(N)council chamber, saying, ⁶⁷“^(O)If You are the ^[c]Christ, tell us.” But He said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe; ⁶⁸and if I ask a question, you will not answer. ⁶⁹^(P)But from now on ^(Q)the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God.”
