16 This is because my cruel enemies are always insulting me.
    All they want is to hurt me.
17 We have not turned away from you,
    but all this has happened to us.
We have not turned against the covenant that you made with us.
18 We have continued to serve you
    and obey your commands.

    because of the enemy, who is bent on revenge.(C)

17 All this came upon us,
    though we had not forgotten(D) you;
    we had not been false to your covenant.
18 Our hearts had not turned(E) back;
    our feet had not strayed from your path.
