The Psalmist in Sickness Complains of Enemies and False Friends.

For the music director. A Psalm of David.

41 Blessed is one who (A)considers the [a]helpless;
The Lord will save him (B)on a day of [b]trouble.
The Lord will (C)protect him and keep him alive,
And he will be called [c](D)blessed upon the earth;
And (E)do not turn him over to the desire of his enemies.
The Lord will sustain him upon his sickbed;
In his illness, You [d]restore him to health.

As for me, I said, “Lord, be gracious to me;
(F)Heal my soul, for (G)I have sinned against You.”
My enemies (H)speak evil against me,
“When will he die, and his name perish?”
And [e]when he comes to see me, he (I)speaks [f]empty words;
His heart gathers wickedness to itself;
When he goes outside, he tells it.
All who hate me whisper together against me;
They (J)plot my harm against me, saying,
“A wicked thing is poured out [g]upon him,
So that when he lies down, he will (K)not get up again.”
Even my [h](L)close friend in whom I trusted,
Who ate my bread,
Has lifted up his heel against me.

10 But You, Lord, be gracious to me and (M)raise me up,
That I may repay them.
11 By this I know that (N)You are pleased with me,
Because (O)my enemy does not shout in triumph over me.
12 As for me, (P)You uphold me in my integrity,
And You place me (Q)in Your presence forever.

13 (R)Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
From everlasting to everlasting.
Amen and Amen.

Prayer of a Sick Man about False Friends

41 Happy is the man who cares for the poor. The Lord will save him in times of trouble. The Lord will keep him alive and safe. And he will be happy upon the earth. You will not give him over to the desire of those who hate him. The Lord will give him strength on his bed of sickness. When he is sick, You will make him well again.

As for me, I said, “O Lord, have loving-kindness for me. Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You.” Those who hate me speak bad words against me, saying, “When will he die, and his name be forgotten?” When one comes to see me, he speaks lies. His heart gathers up bad stories. Then he goes outside and tells them. All who hate me speak in secret together against me. They make plans to hurt me, saying, “A bad thing has come over him. When he lies down, he will not rise again.” Even a friend of mine whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has turned against me.

10 Have loving-kindness for me, O Lord. Raise me up, so that I may pay them back. 11 Then I will know that You are pleased with me, because he who hates me does not win over me. 12 As for me, You hold me up in my honesty. And You set me beside You forever.

13 Honor be to the Lord, the God of Israel, forever and ever! Let it be so!

Oración en enfermedad y en tristeza

Para el director del coro. Salmo de David.

41 Bienaventurado el que piensa en el pobre(A);
En el día del mal el Señor lo librará(B).
El Señor lo protegerá y lo mantendrá con vida(C),
Y será bienaventurado sobre la tierra(D).
Tú no lo entregarás a la voluntad de sus enemigos(E).
El Señor lo sostendrá en su lecho de enfermo;
En su enfermedad, restaurarás su salud.

Yo dije: «Oh Señor, ten piedad de mí;
Sana mi alma(F), porque contra Ti he pecado(G)».
Mis enemigos hablan mal contra mí(H), diciendo:
«¿Cuándo morirá y perecerá su nombre?».
Y si alguien viene a verme, habla falsedades(I);
Su corazón recoge iniquidad para sí;
Cuando sale fuera, lo publica.
Todos los que me odian murmuran a una contra mí;
