When the wicked came against me
To (A)eat[a] up my flesh,
My enemies and foes,
They stumbled and fell.
(B)Though an army may encamp against me,
My heart shall not fear;
Though war may rise against me,
In this I will be confident.

(C)One thing I have desired of the Lord,
That will I seek:
That I may (D)dwell in the house of the Lord
All the days of my life,
To behold the [b]beauty of the Lord,
And to inquire in His temple.
For (E)in the time of trouble
He shall hide me in His pavilion;
In the secret place of His tabernacle
He shall hide me;
He shall (F)set me high upon a rock.

And now (G)my head shall be [c]lifted up above my enemies all around me;
Therefore I will offer sacrifices of [d]joy in His tabernacle;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.

Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice!
Have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
When You said, “Seek My face,”
My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.”
(H)Do not hide Your face from me;
Do not turn Your servant away in anger;
You have been my help;
Do not leave me nor forsake me,
O God of my salvation.
10 (I)When my father and my mother forsake me,
Then the Lord will take care of me.

11 (J)Teach me Your way, O Lord,
And lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies.
12 Do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries;
For (K)false witnesses have risen against me,
And such as breathe out violence.
13 I would have lost heart, unless I had believed
That I would see the goodness of the Lord
(L)In the land of the living.

14 (M)Wait[e] on the Lord;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord!

Rejoicing in Answered Prayer

A Psalm of David.

28 To You I will cry, O Lord my Rock:
(N)Do not be silent to me,
(O)Lest, if You are silent to me,
I become like those who go down to the pit.
Hear the voice of my supplications
When I cry to You,
(P)When I lift up my hands (Q)toward Your holy sanctuary.

Do not [f]take me away with the wicked
And with the workers of iniquity,
(R)Who speak peace to their neighbors,
But evil is in their hearts.
(S)Give them according to their deeds,
And according to the wickedness of their endeavors;
Give them according to the work of their hands;
Render to them what they deserve.
Because (T)they do not regard the works of the Lord,
Nor the operation of His hands,
He shall destroy them
And not build them up.

One thing(D) I ask from the Lord,
    this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
    all the days of my life,(E)
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
    and to seek him in his temple.
For in the day of trouble(F)
    he will keep me safe(G) in his dwelling;
he will hide me(H) in the shelter of his sacred tent
    and set me high upon a rock.(I)

Then my head will be exalted(J)
    above the enemies who surround me;(K)
at his sacred tent I will sacrifice(L) with shouts of joy;(M)
    I will sing(N) and make music(O) to the Lord.

Hear my voice(P) when I call, Lord;

    the Lord will receive me.
11 Teach me your way,(X) Lord;
    lead me in a straight path(Y)
    because of my oppressors.(Z)
12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes,
    for false witnesses(AA) rise up against me,
    spouting malicious accusations.

13 I remain confident of this:
    I will see the goodness of the Lord(AB)
    in the land of the living.(AC)
14 Wait(AD) for the Lord;
    be strong(AE) and take heart
    and wait for the Lord.

Psalm 28

Of David.

To you, Lord, I call;
    you are my Rock,
    do not turn a deaf ear(AF) to me.
For if you remain silent,(AG)
    I will be like those who go down to the pit.(AH)
Hear my cry for mercy(AI)
    as I call to you for help,
as I lift up my hands(AJ)
    toward your Most Holy Place.(AK)

Do not drag me away with the wicked,
    with those who do evil,
who speak cordially with their neighbors
    but harbor malice in their hearts.(AL)
Repay them for their deeds
    and for their evil work;
repay them for what their hands have done(AM)
    and bring back on them what they deserve.(AN)

Because they have no regard for the deeds of the Lord
    and what his hands have done,(AO)
he will tear them down
    and never build them up again.
