⁹ You will make them like a fiery furnace
    when you appear.
The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath,
    and fire will consume them.^(A)

³⁹ You have renounced the covenant with your servant;
    you have defiled his crown in the dust.^(A)

¹² The high fortifications of his walls will be brought down,
    laid low, cast to the ground, even to the dust.

¹¹ and I will cut off the cities of your land
    and destroy all your strongholds;^(A)

¹⁴ and I will uproot your sacred poles^[a] from among you
    and destroy your towns.^(A)
