Blessed Is Everyone Who Fears the Lord

A Song of (A)Ascents.

128 (B)Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord,
    who (C)walks in his ways!
You (D)shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands;
    you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you.

Your wife will be like (E)a fruitful vine
    within your house;
your children will be like (F)olive shoots
    around your table.
Behold, thus shall the man be blessed
    who fears the Lord.

(G)The Lord bless you (H)from Zion!
    May you see (I)the prosperity of Jerusalem
    all the days of your life!
May you see your (J)children's children!
    (K)Peace be upon Israel!

They Have Afflicted Me from My Youth

A Song of (L)Ascents.

129 “Greatly[a] have they (M)afflicted me (N)from my youth”—
    (O)let Israel now say—
“Greatly have they (P)afflicted me (Q)from my youth,
    (R)yet they have not prevailed against me.
(S)The plowers plowed (T)upon my back;
    they made long their furrows.”
The Lord is righteous;
    he has cut (U)the cords of the wicked.
May all who hate Zion
    be (V)put to shame and turned backward!
Let them be like (W)the grass on the housetops,
    which (X)withers before it grows up,
with which the reaper does not fill his hand
    nor the binder of sheaves his arms,
nor do those who pass by say,
    (Y)“The blessing of the Lord be upon you!
    We (Z)bless you in the name of the Lord!”

My Soul Waits for the Lord

A Song of (AA)Ascents.

130 Out of (AB)the depths I cry to you, O Lord!
    O Lord, hear my voice!
(AC)Let your ears be attentive
    to (AD)the voice of my pleas for mercy!

If you, O Lord, should (AE)mark iniquities,
    O Lord, who could (AF)stand?
But with you there is (AG)forgiveness,
    (AH)that you may be feared.

I (AI)wait for the Lord, (AJ)my soul waits,
    and (AK)in his word I hope;
my soul (AL)waits for the Lord
    more than (AM)watchmen for (AN)the morning,
    more than watchmen for the morning.

O Israel, (AO)hope in the Lord!
    For (AP)with the Lord there is steadfast love,
    and with him is plentiful redemption.
And he will (AQ)redeem Israel
    from all his iniquities.

I Have Calmed and Quieted My Soul

A Song of (AR)Ascents. Of David.

131 O Lord, my heart is not (AS)lifted up;
    my eyes are not (AT)raised too high;
I do not (AU)occupy myself with things
    too great and (AV)too marvelous for me.
But I have calmed and quieted my soul,
    like a weaned (AW)child with its mother;
    like a weaned child is my soul within me.

(AX)O Israel, hope in the Lord
    from this time forth and forevermore.

The Lord Has Chosen Zion

A Song of (AY)Ascents.

132 Remember, O Lord, in David's favor,
    all (AZ)the hardships he endured,
how he swore to the Lord
    and (BA)vowed to (BB)the Mighty One of Jacob,
“I will not enter my house
    or get into my bed,
I will not (BC)give sleep to my eyes
    or slumber to my eyelids,
until I (BD)find a place for the Lord,
    a dwelling place for (BE)the Mighty One of Jacob.”

Behold, we heard of it in (BF)Ephrathah;
    we found it in (BG)the fields of Jaar.
“Let us go to his dwelling place;
    let us (BH)worship at his (BI)footstool!”

(BJ)Arise, O Lord, and go to your (BK)resting place,
    you and the ark of your (BL)might.
Let your (BM)priests be (BN)clothed with righteousness,
    and let your (BO)saints shout for joy.
10 For the sake of your servant David,
    (BP)do not turn away the face of (BQ)your anointed one.

11 (BR)The Lord swore to David a sure oath
    (BS)from which he will not turn back:
(BT)“One of the sons of your body[b]
    I will set on your throne.
12 If your sons keep my covenant
    and my testimonies that I shall teach them,
their sons also forever
    shall (BU)sit on your throne.”

13 For the Lord has (BV)chosen Zion;
    he has (BW)desired it for his dwelling place:
14 “This is my (BX)resting place forever;
    here I will (BY)dwell, for I have desired it.
15 I will abundantly (BZ)bless her provisions;
    I will (CA)satisfy her poor with bread.
16 Her (CB)priests I will clothe with salvation,
    and her (CC)saints will shout for joy.
17 There I will make (CD)a horn to sprout for David;
    I have prepared (CE)a lamp for (CF)my anointed.
18 His enemies I will (CG)clothe with shame,
    but on him his crown will shine.”
