Prayer for Relief from Contempt

A Song of Ascents.

123 Unto You ^(A)I lift up my eyes,
O You ^(B)who dwell in the heavens.
²Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters,
As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress,
^(C)So our eyes look to the Lord our God,
Until He has mercy on us.

³Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us!
For we are exceedingly filled with contempt.
⁴Our soul is exceedingly filled
With the scorn of those who are at ease,
With the contempt of the proud.

³²“But of that day and hour ^(C)no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the ^(D)Father. ³³^(E)Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. ³⁴^(F)It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave ^(G)authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. ³⁵^(H)Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming—in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning— ³⁶lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. ³⁷And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!”
