Psalm 119:49-56

ז Zayin

⁴⁹Remember your word^(A) to your servant,
    for you have given me hope.^(B)
⁵⁰My comfort in my suffering is this:
    Your promise preserves my life.^(C)
⁵¹The arrogant mock me^(D) unmercifully,
    but I do not turn^(E) from your law.
⁵²I remember,^(F) Lord, your ancient laws,
    and I find comfort in them.
⁵³Indignation grips me^(G) because of the wicked,
    who have forsaken your law.^(H)
⁵⁴Your decrees are the theme of my song^(I)
    wherever I lodge.
⁵⁵In the night, Lord, I remember^(J) your name,
    that I may keep your law.^(K)
⁵⁶This has been my practice:
    I obey your precepts.^(L)

Jeremiah 32:36-44

³⁶“You are saying about this city, ‘By the sword, famine and plague^(A) it will be given into the hands of the king of Babylon’; but this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ³⁷I will surely gather^(B) them from all the lands where I banish them in my furious anger^(C) and great wrath; I will bring them back to this place and let them live in safety.^(D) ³⁸They will be my people,^(E) and I will be their God. ³⁹I will give them singleness^(F) of heart and action, so that they will always fear^(G) me and that all will then go well for them and for their children after them. ⁴⁰I will make an everlasting covenant^(H) with them: I will never stop doing good to them, and I will inspire^(I) them to fear me, so that they will never turn away from me.^(J) ⁴¹I will rejoice^(K) in doing them good^(L) and will assuredly plant^(M) them in this land with all my heart and soul.^(N)

⁴²“This is what the Lord says: As I have brought all this great calamity^(O) on this people, so I will give them all the prosperity I have promised^(P) them. ⁴³Once more fields will be bought^(Q) in this land of which you say, ‘It is a desolate^(R) waste, without people or animals, for it has been given into the hands of the Babylonians.’ ⁴⁴Fields will be bought for silver, and deeds^(S) will be signed, sealed and witnessed^(T) in the territory of Benjamin, in the villages around Jerusalem, in the towns of Judah and in the towns of the hill country, of the western foothills and of the Negev,^(U) because I will restore^(V) their fortunes,^[a] declares the Lord.”

Warning to Rich Oppressors

5 Now listen,^(A) you rich people,^(B) weep and wail^(C) because of the misery that is coming on you. ²Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes.^(D) ³Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days.^(E) ⁴Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers^(F) who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries^(G) of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty.^(H) ⁵You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves^(I) in the day of slaughter.^[a]^(J) ⁶You have condemned and murdered^(K) the innocent one,^(L) who was not opposing you.
