73 Your hands made me(A) and formed me;
give me understanding to learn your commands.
74 May those who fear you rejoice(B) when they see me,
for I have put my hope in your word.(C)
75 I know, Lord, that your laws are righteous,(D)
and that in faithfulness(E) you have afflicted me.
76 May your unfailing love(F) be my comfort,
according to your promise(G) to your servant.
77 Let your compassion(H) come to me that I may live,
for your law is my delight.(I)
78 May the arrogant(J) be put to shame for wronging me without cause;(K)
but I will meditate on your precepts.
79 May those who fear you turn to me,
those who understand your statutes.(L)
80 May I wholeheartedly follow(M) your decrees,(N)
that I may not be put to shame.(O)

76 Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant.
77 Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight.
78 Let the proud be ashamed; for they dealt perversely with me without a cause: but I will meditate in thy precepts.
79 Let those that fear thee turn unto me, and those that have known thy testimonies.
80 Let my heart be sound in thy statutes; that I be not ashamed.

4 “Say to them, ‘This is what the Lord says:
“‘When people fall down, do they not get up?(A)
When someone turns away,(B) do they not return?
5 Why then have these people turned away?
Why does Jerusalem always turn away?
They cling to deceit;(C)
they refuse to return.(D)
6 I have listened(E) attentively,
but they do not say what is right.
None of them repent(F) of their wickedness,
saying, “What have I done?”
Each pursues their own course(G)
like a horse charging into battle.
7 Even the stork in the sky
knows her appointed seasons,
and the dove, the swift and the thrush
observe the time of their migration.
But my people do not know(H)
the requirements of the Lord.
8 “‘How can you say, “We are wise,
for we have the law(I) of the Lord,”
when actually the lying pen of the scribes
has handled it falsely?
9 The wise(J) will be put to shame;
they will be dismayed(K) and trapped.(L)
Since they have rejected the word(M) of the Lord,
what kind of wisdom(N) do they have?
10 Therefore I will give their wives to other men
and their fields to new owners.(O)
From the least to the greatest,
all are greedy for gain;(P)
prophets(Q) and priests alike,
all practice deceit.(R)
11 They dress the wound of my people
as though it were not serious.
“Peace, peace,” they say,
when there is no peace.(S)
12 Are they ashamed of their detestable conduct?
No, they have no shame(T) at all;
they do not even know how to blush.
So they will fall among the fallen;
they will be brought down when they are punished,(U)
says the Lord.(V)

5 Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return.
6 I hearkened and heard, but they spake not aright: no man repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the battle.
7 Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of the Lord.
8 How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain.
9 The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the Lord; and what wisdom is in them?
10 Therefore will I give their wives unto others, and their fields to them that shall inherit them: for every one from the least even unto the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
11 For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.
12 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down, saith the Lord.
13 I will surely consume them, saith the Lord: there shall be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall fade; and the things that I have given them shall pass away from them.

28 When they heard this, they were furious and began shouting: “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”(A) 29 Soon the whole city was in an uproar. The people seized Gaius(B) and Aristarchus,(C) Paul’s traveling companions from Macedonia,(D) and all of them rushed into the theater together. 30 Paul wanted to appear before the crowd, but the disciples(E) would not let him. 31 Even some of the officials of the province, friends of Paul, sent him a message begging him not to venture into the theater.
32 The assembly was in confusion: Some were shouting one thing, some another.(F) Most of the people did not even know why they were there. 33 The Jews in the crowd pushed Alexander to the front, and they shouted instructions to him. He motioned(G) for silence in order to make a defense before the people. 34 But when they realized he was a Jew, they all shouted in unison for about two hours: “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”(H)
35 The city clerk quieted the crowd and said: “Fellow Ephesians,(I) doesn’t all the world know that the city of Ephesus is the guardian of the temple of the great Artemis and of her image, which fell from heaven? 36 Therefore, since these facts are undeniable, you ought to calm down and not do anything rash. 37 You have brought these men here, though they have neither robbed temples(J) nor blasphemed our goddess. 38 If, then, Demetrius and his fellow craftsmen(K) have a grievance against anybody, the courts are open and there are proconsuls.(L) They can press charges. 39 If there is anything further you want to bring up, it must be settled in a legal assembly. 40 As it is, we are in danger of being charged with rioting because of what happened today. In that case we would not be able to account for this commotion, since there is no reason for it.” 41 After he had said this, he dismissed the assembly.

29 And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre.
30 And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not.
31 And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre.
32 Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused: and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.
33 And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made his defence unto the people.
34 But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.
35 And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?
36 Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.
37 For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess.
38 Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another.
39 But if ye enquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.
40 For we are in danger to be called in question for this day's uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse.
41 And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.
