The psalmist’s profession of uprightness.

A Psalm of David.

101 I will sing of lovingkindness and justice:
Unto thee, O Jehovah, will I sing praises.
I will [a]behave myself wisely in a perfect way:
Oh when wilt thou come unto me?
I will walk within my house [b]with a perfect heart.
I will set no base thing before mine eyes:
I hate [c]the work of them that turn aside;
It shall not cleave unto me.
A perverse heart shall depart from me:
I will know no [d]evil thing.
Whoso privily slandereth his neighbor, him will I destroy:
Him that hath a high look and a proud heart will I not suffer.
Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me:
He that walketh in a perfect way, he shall minister unto me.
He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house:
He that speaketh falsehood shall not be established before mine eyes.
Morning by morning will I destroy all the wicked of the land;
To cut off all the workers of iniquity from the city of Jehovah.

Prayer of an afflicted one for mercy on himself and on Zion.

A Prayer of the afflicted, when he [e]is overwhelmed, and poureth out his complaint before Jehovah.

102 Hear my prayer, O Jehovah,
And let my cry come unto thee.
Hide not thy face from me in the day of my distress:
Incline thine ear unto me;
In the day when I call answer me speedily.
For my days consume away [f]like smoke,
And my bones are burned [g]as a firebrand.
My heart is smitten like grass, and withered;
For I forget to eat my bread.
By reason of the voice of my groaning
My bones cleave to my flesh.
I am like a pelican of the wilderness;
I am become as an owl of the waste places.
I watch, and am become like a sparrow
That is alone upon the house-top.
Mine enemies reproach me all the day;
They that are mad against me do curse by me.
For I have eaten ashes like bread,
And mingled my drink with weeping,
10 Because of thine indignation and thy wrath:
For thou hast taken me up, and cast me away.
11 My days are like a shadow that [h]declineth;
And I am withered like grass.

12 But thou, O Jehovah, [i]wilt abide for ever;
And thy memorial name unto all generations.
13 Thou wilt arise, and have mercy upon Zion;
For it is time to have pity upon her,
Yea, the set time is come.
14 For thy servants take pleasure in her stones,
And have pity upon her dust.
15 So the nations shall fear the name of Jehovah,
And all the kings of the earth thy glory.
16 For Jehovah hath built up Zion;
He hath appeared in his glory.
17 He hath regarded the prayer of the destitute,
And hath not despised their prayer.
18 This shall be written for the generation to come;
And a people which shall be created shall praise [j]Jehovah.
19 For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary;
From heaven did Jehovah behold the earth;
20 To hear the sighing of the prisoner;
To loose [k]those that are appointed to death;
21 That men may declare the name of Jehovah in Zion,
And his praise in Jerusalem;
22 When the peoples are gathered together,
And the kingdoms, to serve Jehovah.

23 He [l]weakened my strength in the way;
He shortened my days.
24 I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days:
Thy years are throughout all generations.
25 Of old didst thou lay the foundation of the earth;
And the heavens are the work of thy hands.
26 They shall perish, but thou shalt endure;
Yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment;
As a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed:
27 But thou art the same,
And thy years shall have no end.
28 The children of thy servants shall continue,
And their seed shall be established before thee.

Praise for Jehovah’s mercies.

A Psalm of David.

103 Bless Jehovah, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless his holy name.
Bless Jehovah, O my soul,
And forget not all his benefits:
Who forgiveth all thine iniquities;
Who healeth all thy diseases;
Who redeemeth thy life from [m]destruction;
Who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
Who satisfieth [n]thy desire with good things,
So that thy youth is renewed like the eagle.
Jehovah executeth righteous acts,
And judgments for all that are oppressed.
He made known his ways unto Moses,
His doings unto the children of Israel.
Jehovah is merciful and gracious,
Slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness.
He will not always chide;
Neither will he keep his anger for ever.
10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins,
Nor rewarded us after our iniquities.
11 For as the heavens are high above the earth,
So great is his lovingkindness toward them that fear him.
12 As far as the east is from the west,
So far hath he removed our transgressions from us.
13 Like as a father pitieth his children,
So Jehovah pitieth them that fear him.
14 For he knoweth our frame;
He remembereth that we are dust.
15 As for man, his days are as grass;
As a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.
16 For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone;
And the place thereof shall know it no more.
17 But the lovingkindness of Jehovah is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him,
And his righteousness unto children’s children;
18 To such as keep his covenant,
And to those that remember his precepts to do them.
19 Jehovah hath established his throne in the heavens;
And his kingdom ruleth over all.
20 Bless Jehovah, ye his angels,
That are mighty in strength, that fulfil his word,
Hearkening unto the voice of his word.
21 Bless Jehovah, all ye his hosts,
Ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure.
22 Bless Jehovah, all ye his works,
In all places of his dominion:
Bless Jehovah, O my soul.

Jehovah’s care over all his works.

104 Bless Jehovah, O my soul.
O Jehovah my God, thou art very great;
Thou art clothed with honor and majesty:
Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment;
Who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain;
Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters;
Who maketh the clouds his chariot;
Who walketh upon the wings of the wind;
Who maketh [o]winds his messengers;
Flames of fire his ministers;
[p]Who laid the foundations of the earth,
That it should not be moved for ever.
Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a vesture;
The waters stood above the mountains.
At thy rebuke they fled;
At the voice of thy thunder they hasted away
[q](The mountains rose, the valleys sank down)
Unto the place which thou hadst founded for them.
Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over;
That they turn not again to cover the earth.
10 He sendeth forth springs into the valleys;
They run among the mountains;
11 They give drink to every beast of the field;
The wild asses quench their thirst.
12 By them the birds of the heavens have their habitation;
They [r]sing among the branches.
13 He watereth the mountains from his chambers:
The earth is filled with the fruit of thy works.
14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle,
And herb for the [s]service of man;
That he may bring forth [t]food out of the earth,
15 And wine that maketh glad the heart of man,
[u]And oil to make his face to shine,
And bread that strengtheneth man’s heart.
16 The trees of Jehovah are filled with moisture,
The cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted;
17 Where the birds make their nests:
As for the stork, the fir-trees are her house.
18 The high mountains are for the wild goats;
The rocks are a refuge for the conies.
19 He appointed the moon for seasons:
The sun knoweth his going down.
20 Thou makest darkness, and it is night,
Wherein all the beasts of the forest creep forth.
21 The young lions roar after their prey,
And seek their food from God.
22 The sun ariseth, they get them away,
And lay them down in their dens.
23 Man goeth forth unto his work
And to his labor until the evening.
24 O Jehovah, how manifold are thy works!
In wisdom hast thou made them all:
The earth is full of thy [v]riches.
25 Yonder is the sea, great and wide,
Wherein are things creeping innumerable,
Both small and great beasts.
26 There go the ships;
There is leviathan, whom thou hast formed to play [w]therein.
27 These wait all for thee,
That thou mayest give them their food in due season.
28 Thou givest unto them, they gather;
Thou openest thy hand, they are satisfied with good.
29 Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled;
Thou [x]takest away their breath, they die,
And return to their dust.
30 Thou sendest forth thy Spirit, they are created;
And thou renewest the face of the ground.
31 Let the glory of Jehovah endure for ever;
Let Jehovah rejoice in his works:
32 Who looketh on the earth, and it trembleth;
He toucheth the mountains, and they smoke.
33 I will sing unto Jehovah as long as I live:
I will sing praise to my God while I have any being.
34 Let my meditation be sweet unto him:
I will rejoice in Jehovah.
35 Let sinners be consumed out of the earth.
And let the wicked be no more.
Bless Jehovah, O my soul.
[y]Praise ye Jehovah.

Jehovah’s wonderful works in behalf of Israel.

105 Oh give thanks unto Jehovah, call upon his name;
Make known among the peoples his doings.
Sing unto him, sing praises unto him;
[z]Talk ye of all his marvellous works.
Glory ye in his holy name:
Let the heart of them rejoice that seek Jehovah.
Seek ye Jehovah and his strength;
Seek his face evermore.
Remember his marvellous works that he hath done,
His wonders, and the judgments of his mouth,
O ye seed of Abraham his servant,
Ye children of Jacob, his chosen ones.
He is Jehovah our God:
His judgments are in all the earth.
He hath remembered his covenant for ever,
The word which he commanded to a thousand generations,
The covenant which he made with Abraham,
And his oath unto Isaac,
10 And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a statute,
To Israel for an everlasting covenant,
11 Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan,
The [aa]lot of your inheritance;
12 When they were but a few men in number,
Yea, very few, and sojourners in it.
13 And they went about from nation to nation,
From one kingdom to another people.
14 He suffered no man to do them wrong;
Yea, he reproved kings for their sakes,
15 Saying, Touch not mine anointed ones,
And do my prophets no harm.
16 And he called for a famine upon the land;
He brake the whole staff of bread.
17 He sent a man before them;
Joseph was sold for a servant:
18 His feet they hurt with fetters:
[ab]He was laid in chains of iron,
19 Until the time that his word came to pass,
The word of Jehovah tried him.
20 The king sent and loosed him;
Even the ruler of peoples, and let him go free.
21 He made him lord of his house,
And ruler of all his substance;
22 To bind his princes at his pleasure,
And teach his elders wisdom.
23 Israel also came into Egypt;
And Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.
24 And he increased his people greatly,
And made them stronger than their adversaries.
25 He turned their heart to hate his people,
To deal subtly with his servants.
26 He sent Moses his servant,
And Aaron whom he had chosen.
27 They set among them [ac]his signs,
And wonders in the land of Ham.
28 He sent darkness, and made it dark;
And they rebelled not against his words.
29 He turned their waters into blood,
And slew their fish.
30 Their land swarmed with frogs
In the chambers of their kings.
31 He spake, and there came swarms of flies,
And lice in all their borders.
32 He gave them hail for rain,
And flaming fire in their land.
33 He smote their vines also and their fig-trees,
And brake the trees of their borders.
34 He spake, and the locust came,
And the grasshopper, and that without number,
35 And did eat up every herb in their land,
And did eat up the fruit of their ground.
36 He smote also all the first-born in their land,
The [ad]chief of all their strength.
37 And he brought them forth with silver and gold;
And there was [ae]not one feeble person among his tribes.
38 Egypt was glad when they departed;
For the fear of them had fallen upon them.
39 He spread a cloud for a covering,
And fire to give light in the night.
40 They asked, and he brought quails,
And satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
41 He opened the rock, and waters gushed out;
They ran in the dry places like a river.
42 For he remembered his holy word,
And Abraham his servant.
43 And he brought forth his people with joy,
And his chosen with singing.
44 And he gave them the lands of the nations;
And they took the labor of the peoples in possession:
45 That they might keep his statutes,
And observe his laws.
[af]Praise ye Jehovah.

Psalm 101

Of David. A psalm.

I will sing of your love(A) and justice;
    to you, Lord, I will sing praise.
I will be careful to lead a blameless life(B)
    when will you come to me?

I will conduct the affairs(C) of my house
    with a blameless heart.
I will not look with approval
    on anything that is vile.(D)

I hate what faithless people do;(E)
    I will have no part in it.
The perverse of heart(F) shall be far from me;
    I will have nothing to do with what is evil.

Whoever slanders their neighbor(G) in secret,
    I will put to silence;
whoever has haughty eyes(H) and a proud heart,
    I will not tolerate.

My eyes will be on the faithful in the land,
    that they may dwell with me;
the one whose walk is blameless(I)
    will minister to me.

No one who practices deceit
    will dwell in my house;
no one who speaks falsely
    will stand in my presence.

Every morning(J) I will put to silence
    all the wicked(K) in the land;
I will cut off every evildoer(L)
    from the city of the Lord.(M)

Psalm 102[a]

A prayer of an afflicted person who has grown weak and pours out a lament before the Lord.

Hear my prayer,(N) Lord;
    let my cry for help(O) come to you.
Do not hide your face(P) from me
    when I am in distress.
Turn your ear(Q) to me;
    when I call, answer me quickly.

For my days vanish like smoke;(R)
    my bones(S) burn like glowing embers.
My heart is blighted and withered like grass;(T)
    I forget to eat my food.(U)
In my distress I groan aloud(V)
    and am reduced to skin and bones.
I am like a desert owl,(W)
    like an owl among the ruins.
I lie awake;(X) I have become
    like a bird alone(Y) on a roof.
All day long my enemies(Z) taunt me;(AA)
    those who rail against me use my name as a curse.(AB)
For I eat ashes(AC) as my food
    and mingle my drink with tears(AD)
10 because of your great wrath,(AE)
    for you have taken me up and thrown me aside.
11 My days are like the evening shadow;(AF)
    I wither(AG) away like grass.

12 But you, Lord, sit enthroned forever;(AH)
    your renown endures(AI) through all generations.(AJ)
13 You will arise(AK) and have compassion(AL) on Zion,
    for it is time(AM) to show favor(AN) to her;
    the appointed time(AO) has come.
14 For her stones are dear to your servants;
    her very dust moves them to pity.
15 The nations will fear(AP) the name of the Lord,
    all the kings(AQ) of the earth will revere your glory.
16 For the Lord will rebuild Zion(AR)
    and appear in his glory.(AS)
17 He will respond to the prayer(AT) of the destitute;
    he will not despise their plea.

18 Let this be written(AU) for a future generation,
    that a people not yet created(AV) may praise the Lord:
19 “The Lord looked down(AW) from his sanctuary on high,
    from heaven he viewed the earth,
20 to hear the groans of the prisoners(AX)
    and release those condemned to death.”
21 So the name of the Lord will be declared(AY) in Zion
    and his praise(AZ) in Jerusalem
22 when the peoples and the kingdoms
    assemble to worship(BA) the Lord.

23 In the course of my life[b] he broke my strength;
    he cut short my days.(BB)
24 So I said:
“Do not take me away, my God, in the midst of my days;
    your years go on(BC) through all generations.
25 In the beginning(BD) you laid the foundations of the earth,
    and the heavens(BE) are the work of your hands.(BF)
26 They will perish,(BG) but you remain;
    they will all wear out like a garment.
Like clothing you will change them
    and they will be discarded.
27 But you remain the same,(BH)
    and your years will never end.(BI)
28 The children of your servants(BJ) will live in your presence;
    their descendants(BK) will be established before you.”

Psalm 103

Of David.

Praise the Lord,(BL) my soul;(BM)
    all my inmost being, praise his holy name.(BN)
Praise the Lord,(BO) my soul,
    and forget not(BP) all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins(BQ)
    and heals(BR) all your diseases,
who redeems your life(BS) from the pit
    and crowns you with love and compassion,(BT)
who satisfies(BU) your desires with good things
    so that your youth is renewed(BV) like the eagle’s.(BW)

The Lord works righteousness(BX)
    and justice for all the oppressed.(BY)

He made known(BZ) his ways(CA) to Moses,
    his deeds(CB) to the people of Israel:
The Lord is compassionate and gracious,(CC)
    slow to anger, abounding in love.
He will not always accuse,
    nor will he harbor his anger forever;(CD)
10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve(CE)
    or repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
    so great is his love(CF) for those who fear him;(CG)
12 as far as the east is from the west,
    so far has he removed our transgressions(CH) from us.

13 As a father has compassion(CI) on his children,
    so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
14 for he knows how we are formed,(CJ)
    he remembers that we are dust.(CK)
15 The life of mortals is like grass,(CL)
    they flourish like a flower(CM) of the field;
16 the wind blows(CN) over it and it is gone,
    and its place(CO) remembers it no more.
17 But from everlasting to everlasting
    the Lord’s love is with those who fear him,
    and his righteousness with their children’s children(CP)
18 with those who keep his covenant(CQ)
    and remember(CR) to obey his precepts.(CS)

19 The Lord has established his throne(CT) in heaven,
    and his kingdom rules(CU) over all.

20 Praise the Lord,(CV) you his angels,(CW)
    you mighty ones(CX) who do his bidding,(CY)
    who obey his word.
21 Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts,(CZ)
    you his servants(DA) who do his will.
22 Praise the Lord, all his works(DB)
    everywhere in his dominion.

Praise the Lord, my soul.(DC)

Psalm 104

Praise the Lord, my soul.(DD)

Lord my God, you are very great;
    you are clothed with splendor and majesty.(DE)

The Lord wraps(DF) himself in light(DG) as with a garment;
    he stretches(DH) out the heavens(DI) like a tent(DJ)
    and lays the beams(DK) of his upper chambers on their waters.(DL)
He makes the clouds(DM) his chariot(DN)
    and rides on the wings of the wind.(DO)
He makes winds his messengers,[c](DP)
    flames of fire(DQ) his servants.

He set the earth(DR) on its foundations;(DS)
    it can never be moved.
You covered it(DT) with the watery depths(DU) as with a garment;
    the waters stood(DV) above the mountains.
But at your rebuke(DW) the waters fled,
    at the sound of your thunder(DX) they took to flight;
they flowed over the mountains,
    they went down into the valleys,
    to the place you assigned(DY) for them.
You set a boundary(DZ) they cannot cross;
    never again will they cover the earth.

10 He makes springs(EA) pour water into the ravines;
    it flows between the mountains.
11 They give water(EB) to all the beasts of the field;
    the wild donkeys(EC) quench their thirst.
12 The birds of the sky(ED) nest by the waters;
    they sing among the branches.(EE)
13 He waters the mountains(EF) from his upper chambers;(EG)
    the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work.(EH)
14 He makes grass grow(EI) for the cattle,
    and plants for people to cultivate—
    bringing forth food(EJ) from the earth:
15 wine(EK) that gladdens human hearts,
    oil(EL) to make their faces shine,
    and bread that sustains(EM) their hearts.
16 The trees of the Lord(EN) are well watered,
    the cedars of Lebanon(EO) that he planted.
17 There the birds(EP) make their nests;
    the stork has its home in the junipers.
18 The high mountains belong to the wild goats;(EQ)
    the crags are a refuge for the hyrax.(ER)

19 He made the moon to mark the seasons,(ES)
    and the sun(ET) knows when to go down.
20 You bring darkness,(EU) it becomes night,(EV)
    and all the beasts of the forest(EW) prowl.
21 The lions roar for their prey(EX)
    and seek their food from God.(EY)
22 The sun rises, and they steal away;
    they return and lie down in their dens.(EZ)
23 Then people go out to their work,(FA)
    to their labor until evening.(FB)

24 How many are your works,(FC) Lord!
    In wisdom you made(FD) them all;
    the earth is full of your creatures.(FE)
25 There is the sea,(FF) vast and spacious,
    teeming with creatures beyond number—
    living things both large and small.(FG)
26 There the ships(FH) go to and fro,
    and Leviathan,(FI) which you formed to frolic(FJ) there.(FK)

27 All creatures look to you
    to give them their food(FL) at the proper time.
28 When you give it to them,
    they gather it up;
when you open your hand,
    they are satisfied(FM) with good things.
29 When you hide your face,(FN)
    they are terrified;
when you take away their breath,
    they die and return to the dust.(FO)
30 When you send your Spirit,(FP)
    they are created,
    and you renew the face of the ground.

31 May the glory of the Lord(FQ) endure forever;
    may the Lord rejoice in his works(FR)
32 he who looks at the earth, and it trembles,(FS)
    who touches the mountains,(FT) and they smoke.(FU)

33 I will sing(FV) to the Lord all my life;
    I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
34 May my meditation be pleasing to him,
    as I rejoice(FW) in the Lord.
35 But may sinners vanish(FX) from the earth
    and the wicked be no more.(FY)

Praise the Lord, my soul.

Praise the Lord.[d](FZ)

Psalm 105(GA)

    make known among the nations what he has done.
Sing to him,(GD) sing praise to him;(GE)
    tell of all his wonderful acts.(GF)
Glory in his holy name;(GG)
    let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
Look to the Lord and his strength;
    seek his face(GH) always.

Remember the wonders(GI) he has done,
    his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,(GJ)
you his servants, the descendants of Abraham,(GK)
    his chosen(GL) ones, the children of Jacob.
He is the Lord our God;
    his judgments are in all the earth.

He remembers his covenant(GM) forever,
    the promise he made, for a thousand generations,
the covenant he made with Abraham,(GN)
    the oath he swore to Isaac.
10 He confirmed it(GO) to Jacob as a decree,
    to Israel as an everlasting covenant:(GP)
11 “To you I will give the land of Canaan(GQ)
    as the portion you will inherit.”(GR)

12 When they were but few in number,(GS)
    few indeed, and strangers in it,(GT)
13 they wandered from nation to nation,(GU)
    from one kingdom to another.
14 He allowed no one to oppress(GV) them;
    for their sake he rebuked kings:(GW)
15 “Do not touch(GX) my anointed ones;
    do my prophets(GY) no harm.”

16 He called down famine(GZ) on the land
    and destroyed all their supplies of food;
17 and he sent a man before them—
    Joseph, sold as a slave.(HA)
18 They bruised his feet with shackles,(HB)
    his neck was put in irons,
19 till what he foretold(HC) came to pass,
    till the word(HD) of the Lord proved him true.
20 The king sent and released him,
    the ruler of peoples set him free.(HE)
21 He made him master of his household,
    ruler over all he possessed,
22 to instruct his princes(HF) as he pleased
    and teach his elders wisdom.(HG)

23 Then Israel entered Egypt;(HH)
    Jacob resided(HI) as a foreigner in the land of Ham.(HJ)
24 The Lord made his people very fruitful;
    he made them too numerous(HK) for their foes,
25 whose hearts he turned(HL) to hate his people,
    to conspire(HM) against his servants.
26 He sent Moses(HN) his servant,
    and Aaron,(HO) whom he had chosen.(HP)
27 They performed(HQ) his signs(HR) among them,
    his wonders(HS) in the land of Ham.
28 He sent darkness(HT) and made the land dark—
    for had they not rebelled against(HU) his words?
29 He turned their waters into blood,(HV)
    causing their fish to die.(HW)
30 Their land teemed with frogs,(HX)
    which went up into the bedrooms of their rulers.
31 He spoke,(HY) and there came swarms of flies,(HZ)
    and gnats(IA) throughout their country.
32 He turned their rain into hail,(IB)
    with lightning throughout their land;
33 he struck down their vines(IC) and fig trees(ID)
    and shattered the trees of their country.
34 He spoke,(IE) and the locusts came,(IF)
    grasshoppers(IG) without number;(IH)
35 they ate up every green thing in their land,
    ate up the produce of their soil.
36 Then he struck down all the firstborn(II) in their land,
    the firstfruits of all their manhood.
37 He brought out Israel, laden with silver and gold,(IJ)
    and from among their tribes no one faltered.
38 Egypt was glad when they left,
    because dread of Israel(IK) had fallen on them.

39 He spread out a cloud(IL) as a covering,
    and a fire to give light at night.(IM)
40 They asked,(IN) and he brought them quail;(IO)
    he fed them well with the bread of heaven.(IP)
41 He opened the rock,(IQ) and water gushed out;
    it flowed like a river in the desert.

42 For he remembered his holy promise(IR)
    given to his servant Abraham.
43 He brought out his people with rejoicing,(IS)
    his chosen ones with shouts of joy;
44 he gave them the lands of the nations,(IT)
    and they fell heir to what others had toiled(IU) for—
45 that they might keep his precepts
    and observe his laws.(IV)

Praise the Lord.[e](IW)
