Psalm 64-72

New American Standard Bible

⁷ But ^(L)God ^[i]will shoot an arrow at them;
Suddenly ^[j]they will be wounded.
⁸ So ^[k]they ^[l]will ^(M)make him stumble;
^(N)Their own tongue is against them;
All who see them will ^(O)shake their heads.
⁹ Then all people ^[m]will ^(P)fear,
And they ^[n]will ^(Q)declare the work of God,
And ^[o]will consider ^[p]what He has done.
¹⁰ The righteous person will be ^(R)glad in the Lord and ^(S)take refuge in Him;
And all the upright in heart will boast.

⁵ By ^(AA)awesome deeds You answer us in righteousness, ^(AB)God of our salvation,
You who are the trust of all the ^(AC)ends of the earth and the farthest ^[u](AD)sea;
⁶ Who ^(AE)establishes the mountains by His strength,
Who is ^(AF)encircled with might;
⁷ Who ^(AG)stills the roaring of the seas,
The roaring of their waves,
And the ^(AH)turmoil of the nations.
⁸ They who dwell at the ^(AI)ends of the earth stand in awe of Your signs;
You make the ^[v]sunrise and the sunset shout for joy.

⁹ You visit the earth and ^(AJ)cause it to overflow;
You greatly ^(AK)enrich it;
The ^[w](AL)stream of God is full of water;
You prepare their ^(AM)grain, for so You prepare ^[x]the earth.
¹⁰ You water its furrows abundantly,
You ^[y]settle its ridges,
You soften it ^(AN)with showers,
You bless its growth.
¹¹ You have crowned the year ^[z]with Your ^(AO)goodness,
And Your ^[aa]paths ^(AP)drip with fatness.
^12 (AQ)The pastures of the wilderness drip,
And the ^(AR)hills encircle themselves with rejoicing.
¹³ The meadows are ^(AS)clothed with flocks
And the valleys are ^(AT)covered with grain;
They ^(AU)shout for joy, yes, they sing.

^5 (BC)Come and see the works of God,
Who is ^(BD)awesome in His deeds toward the sons of mankind.
⁶ He ^(BE)turned the sea into dry land;
They passed through ^(BF)the river on foot;
Let’s ^(BG)rejoice there, in Him!
⁷ He ^(BH)rules by His might forever;
His ^(BI)eyes keep watch on the nations;
The rebellious shall not ^(BJ)exalt themselves! Selah

⁸ Bless our God, you peoples,
And ^[ab](BK)sound His praise abroad,
⁹ Who ^[ac](BL)keeps us in life,
And ^(BM)does not allow our feet to ^[ad]slip.
¹⁰ For You have ^(BN)put us to the test, God;
You have ^(BO)refined us as silver is refined.
¹¹ You ^(BP)brought us into the net;
You laid an oppressive burden upon ^[ae]us.
¹² You made men ^(BQ)ride over our heads;
We went through ^(BR)fire and through water.
Yet You ^(BS)brought us out into a place of abundance.
¹³ I shall ^(BT)come into Your house with burnt offerings;
I shall ^(BU)pay You my vows,
¹⁴ Which my lips uttered
And my mouth spoke when I was ^(BV)in distress.
¹⁵ I shall ^(BW)offer to You burnt offerings of fat animals,
With the smoke of ^(BX)rams;
I shall make an offering of ^[af]bulls with male goats. Selah

^16 (BY)Come and hear, all who ^[ag]fear God,
And I will ^(BZ)tell of what He has done for my soul.
¹⁷ I cried to Him with my mouth,
And ^[ah]He was ^(CA)exalted with my tongue.
¹⁸ If I ^[ai](CB)regard wickedness in my heart,
The ^(CC)Lord will not hear;
¹⁹ But ^(CD)God has heard;
He has given attention to the sound of my prayer.
^20 (CE)Blessed be God,
Who ^(CF)has not turned away my prayer
Nor His favor from me.

⁵ A ^(DB)father of the fatherless and a ^(DC)judge ^[aq]for the widows,
Is God in His ^(DD)holy dwelling.
⁶ God ^[ar](DE)makes a home for the lonely;
He ^(DF)leads out the prisoners into prosperity,
Only ^(DG)the rebellious live in parched lands.

⁷ God, when You ^(DH)went forth before Your people,
When You ^(DI)marched through the desert, Selah
⁸ The ^(DJ)earth quaked;
The ^(DK)heavens also dropped rain at the presence of God;
^[as](DL)Sinai itself quaked at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
⁹ You ^(DM)made plentiful rain fall, God;
You confirmed Your inheritance when it was ^[at]parched.
¹⁰ Your creatures settled in it;
In Your kindness You ^(DN)provided for the poor, God.

¹¹ The Lord gives the ^[au]command;
The ^(DO)women who proclaim good news are a great army:
¹² “^(DP)Kings of armies flee, they flee,
And she who remains at home will ^(DQ)divide the spoils!”
^13 [av]When you lie down ^(DR)among the sheepfolds,
You are like the wings of a dove covered with silver,
And its pinions with ^[aw]glistening gold.
¹⁴ When the Almighty ^(DS)scattered the kings ^[ax]there,
It was snowing in ^(DT)Zalmon.

^15 (DU)The mountain of Bashan is a ^[ay]mountain of God;
The mountain of Bashan is a mountain of many peaks.
¹⁶ Why do you look with envy, you mountains of many peaks,
At the mountain God has ^(DV)desired as His dwelling?
Indeed, ^(DW)the Lord will dwell there forever.
¹⁷ The ^(DX)chariots of God are ^[az]myriads, ^(DY)thousands upon thousands;
^[ba]The Lord is among them as at Sinai, in holiness.
¹⁸ You have ^(DZ)ascended on high, You have ^(EA)led captive Your captives;
You have received gifts among people,
Even among the rebellious as well, that ^[bb]the Lord God may dwell there.

¹⁹ Blessed be the Lord, who daily ^(EB)bears our burden,
^(EC)The God who is our salvation. Selah
²⁰ God is to us a ^(ED)God of salvation;
And ^(EE)to ^[bc]God the Lord belong ways of escape ^[bd]from death.
²¹ God certainly will ^(EF)shatter the heads of His enemies,
The hairy ^[be]head of one who goes about in his guilt.
²² The Lord ^[bf]said, “^(EG)I will bring them back from Bashan.
I will bring them back from the depths of the sea,
²³ So that ^[bg](EH)your foot may shatter them in blood,
And the tongue of your ^(EI)dogs may have its portion from your enemies.”

²⁴ They have seen ^(EJ)Your procession, God,
The procession of my God, my King, ^[bh](EK)into the sanctuary.
²⁵ The ^(EL)singers went on, the musicians after them,
^[bi]In the midst of the ^(EM)young women beating tambourines.
^26 (EN)Bless God in the congregations,
Even the Lord, you who are of the ^(EO)fountain of Israel.
^27 (EP)Benjamin, the ^[bj]youngest, is there, ^[bk]ruling them,
The leaders of Judah in their company,
The leaders of ^(EQ)Zebulun, the leaders of Naphtali.

^28 [bl]Your God has ^(ER)commanded your strength;
Show Yourself strong, God, You ^(ES)who acted ^[bm]in our behalf.
^29 [bn]Because of Your temple at Jerusalem
^(ET)Kings will bring gifts to You.
³⁰ Rebuke the ^(EU)animals ^[bo]in the reeds,
The herd of ^(EV)bulls with the calves of the peoples,
Trampling the pieces of silver;
He has ^(EW)scattered the peoples who delight in war.
^31 [bp]Messengers will come from ^(EX)Egypt;
^[bq](EY)Cush will quickly stretch out her hands to God.

³² Sing to God, you ^(EZ)kingdoms of the earth,
^(FA)Sing praises to the Lord, Selah
³³ To Him who ^(FB)rides upon the ^[br](FC)highest heavens, which are from ancient times;
Behold, ^(FD)He ^[bs]speaks with His voice, a ^(FE)mighty voice.
^34 (FF)Ascribe strength to God;
His majesty is over Israel,
And ^(FG)His strength is in the ^[bt]skies.
^35 [bu]God, You are ^(FH)awesome from Your ^[bv]sanctuary.
The God of Israel Himself ^(FI)gives strength and power to the people.
^(FJ)Blessed be God!

⁵ God, You know ^(FS)my foolishness,
And ^(FT)my guilt is not hidden from You.
⁶ May those who wait for You not ^(FU)be ashamed because of me, Lord ^[ca]God of armies;
May those who seek You not be dishonored because of me, God of Israel,
⁷ Because ^(FV)for Your sake I have endured disgrace;
^(FW)Dishonor has covered my face.
⁸ I have become ^(FX)estranged ^[cb]from my brothers,
And a stranger to my mother’s sons.
⁹ For ^(FY)zeal for Your house has consumed me,
And ^(FZ)the taunts of those who taunt You have fallen on me.
¹⁰ When I wept ^(GA)in my soul with fasting,
It became my ^(GB)disgrace.
¹¹ When I made ^(GC)sackcloth my clothing,
I became ^(GD)a proverb to them.
¹² Those who ^(GE)sit in the gate talk about me,
And ^(GF)songs of mockery by those habitually drunk are about me.

¹³ But as for me, my prayer is to You, Lord, ^(GG)at an acceptable time;
God, in the ^(GH)greatness of Your mercy,
Answer me with ^[cc]Your saving truth.
¹⁴ Rescue me from the ^(GI)mud and do not let me sink;
May I be ^(GJ)rescued from those who hate me, and from the ^(GK)depths of water.
¹⁵ May the ^[cd](GL)flood of water not overflow me
Nor the deep swallow me up,
Nor the ^(GM)pit close its mouth on me.

¹⁶ Answer me, Lord, for ^(GN)Your mercy is good;
^(GO)According to the greatness of Your compassion, ^(GP)turn to me,
¹⁷ And ^(GQ)do not hide Your face from Your servant,
For I am ^(GR)in distress; answer me quickly.
¹⁸ Come near to my soul and ^(GS)redeem it;
^(GT)Ransom me because of my enemies!
¹⁹ You know my ^(GU)disgrace, my shame, and my dishonor;
All my enemies are ^[ce]known to You.

²⁰ Disgrace has ^(GV)broken my heart, and I am so sick.
And ^(GW)I waited for sympathy, but there was none;
And for ^(GX)comforters, but I found none.
²¹ They also gave me ^[cf](GY)a bitter herb in my food,
And for my thirst they ^(GZ)gave me vinegar to drink.

²² May ^(HA)their table before them become a snare;
And ^[cg](HB)when they are at peace, may it become a trap.
²³ May their ^(HC)eyes grow dim so that they cannot see,
And make their ^(HD)hips shake continually.
^24 (HE)Pour out Your indignation on them,
And may Your burning anger overtake them.
²⁵ May their ^[ch](HF)camp be desolated;
May there be none living in their tents.
²⁶ For they have ^(HG)persecuted him whom ^(HH)You Yourself struck,
And they tell of the pain of those whom ^(HI)You have ^[ci]wounded.
²⁷ Add ^(HJ)guilt to their guilt,
And ^(HK)may they not come into ^(HL)Your righteousness.
²⁸ May they be ^(HM)wiped out of the ^(HN)book of life,
And may they not be ^[cj](HO)recorded with the righteous.

²⁹ But I am ^(HP)afflicted and in pain;
^[ck]May Your salvation, God, ^(HQ)set me safely on high.
³⁰ I will ^(HR)praise the name of God with song,
And ^(HS)exalt Him with ^(HT)thanksgiving.
³¹ And it will ^(HU)please the Lord better than an ox
Or bull with horns and hoofs.
³² The ^(HV)humble ^[cl]have seen it and are glad;
You who seek God, ^(HW)let your heart ^[cm]revive.
³³ For ^(HX)the Lord hears the needy,
And ^(HY)does not despise those of His who are prisoners.

^34 (HZ)Heaven and earth shall praise Him,
The seas and ^(IA)everything that moves in them.
³⁵ For God will ^(IB)save Zion and ^(IC)build the cities of Judah,
So that they may live there and ^(ID)possess it.
³⁶ The ^[cn](IE)descendants of His servants will inherit it,
And those who love His name ^(IF)will live in it.

⁴ May all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You;
And may those who love Your salvation say continually,
“May God be exalted!”
⁵ But ^(IJ)I am afflicted and needy;
^(IK)Hurry to me, God!
You are my help and my savior;
Lord, do not delay.

⁷ I have become a ^(IY)marvel to many,
For You are ^(IZ)my strong refuge.
⁸ My ^(JA)mouth is filled with Your praise
And with ^(JB)Your glory all day long.
⁹ Do not cast me away at the ^(JC)time of my old age;
Do not abandon me when my strength fails.
¹⁰ For my enemies have spoken ^[cu]against me;
And those who ^(JD)watch for my ^[cv]life ^(JE)have consulted together,
¹¹ Saying, “^(JF)God has abandoned him;
Pursue and seize him, for there is ^(JG)no one to save him.”

¹² God, ^(JH)do not be far from me;
My God, ^(JI)hurry to my aid!
¹³ May those who are enemies of my soul be ^(JJ)put to shame and consumed;
May they be ^(JK)covered with disgrace and dishonor, who ^(JL)seek ^[cw]to injure me.
¹⁴ But as for me, I will ^(JM)wait continually,
And will ^[cx](JN)praise You yet more and more.
¹⁵ My ^(JO)mouth shall tell of Your righteousness
And of ^(JP)Your salvation all day long;
For I ^(JQ)do not know the art of writing.
¹⁶ I will come ^(JR)with the mighty deeds of the Lord ^[cy]God;
I will ^(JS)make mention of Your righteousness, Yours alone.

¹⁷ God, You ^(JT)have taught me from my youth,
And I still ^(JU)declare Your wondrous deeds.
¹⁸ And even when I am ^(JV)old and gray, God, do not abandon me,
Until I ^(JW)declare Your ^[cz]strength to this generation,
Your power to all who are to come.
^19 [da]For Your ^(JX)righteousness, God, reaches to the ^[db]heavens,
You who have ^(JY)done great things;
God, ^(JZ)who is like You?
²⁰ You who have ^(KA)shown ^[dc]me many troubles and distresses
Will ^(KB)revive ^[dd]me again,
And will bring ^[de]me up again ^(KC)from the depths of the earth.
²¹ May You increase my ^(KD)greatness
And turn to ^(KE)comfort me.

²² I will also praise You with ^[df](KF)a harp,
And Your ^[dg]truth, my God;
I will sing praises to You with the ^(KG)lyre,
^(KH)Holy One of Israel.
²³ My lips will ^(KI)shout for joy when I sing praises to You;
And my ^(KJ)soul, which You have redeemed.
²⁴ My ^(KK)tongue also will tell of Your righteousness all day long;
For they are ^(KL)put to shame, for they are humiliated who seek ^[dh]my harm.

^5 [dp]May they fear You ^(KS)while the sun shines,
And ^[dq]as long as the moon shines, throughout all generations.
^6 [dr]May he come down ^(KT)like rain upon the mown grass,
Like ^(KU)showers that water the earth.
^7 [ds]May the ^(KV)righteous flourish in his days,
As well as an ^(KW)abundance of peace, until the moon is no more.

⁸ May he also rule ^(KX)from sea to sea,
And from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth.
^9 [dt]May ^(KY)the nomads of the desert ^(KZ)bow before him,
And his enemies ^(LA)lick the dust.
^10 [du]May the kings of ^(LB)Tarshish and of the ^[dv](LC)islands bring gifts;
May the kings of ^(LD)Sheba and ^(LE)Seba ^(LF)offer tributes.
^11 [dw]And may all ^(LG)kings bow down before him,
All ^(LH)nations serve him.

¹² For he will ^(LI)save the needy when he cries for help,
The ^[dx]afflicted also, and him who has no helper.
¹³ He will have ^(LJ)compassion on the poor and needy,
And he will save the ^[dy]lives of the needy.
¹⁴ He will ^[dz](LK)rescue their ^[ea]life from oppression and violence,
And their blood will be ^(LL)precious in his sight;
¹⁵ So may he live, and may the ^(LM)gold of Sheba be given to him;
And ^[eb]they are to pray for him continually;
^[ec]They are to bless him all day long.

¹⁶ May there be abundance of grain on the earth on top of the mountains;
Its fruit will wave like the cedars of ^(LN)Lebanon;
And may those from the city flourish like the ^(LO)vegetation of the earth.
¹⁷ May his ^(LP)name endure forever;
May his name produce descendants ^[ed](LQ)as long as the sun shines;
And may people ^(LR)wish blessings on themselves by him;
^(LS)May all nations call him blessed.

^18 (LT)Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel,
Who alone ^(LU)works wonders.
¹⁹ And blessed be His ^(LV)glorious name forever;
And may the whole ^(LW)earth be filled with His glory.
