Prayer for Mercy in Time of Trouble.

For the music director; with stringed instruments, [a]upon an eight-string lyre. A Psalm of David.

Lord, (A)do not rebuke me in Your anger,
Nor discipline me in Your wrath.
Be gracious to me, Lord, for I am (B)frail;
(C)Heal me, Lord, for (D)my bones are horrified.
And my (E)soul is greatly horrified;
But You, Lord(F)how long?

Return, Lord, (G)rescue my [b]soul;
Save me because of Your mercy.
For (H)there is no [c]mention of You in death;
In [d]Sheol, who will praise You?

I am (I)weary with my sighing;
Every night I make my bed swim,
I flood my couch with (J)my tears.
My (K)eye has wasted away with grief;
It has grown old because of all my enemies.

(L)Leave me, all you who practice injustice,
For the Lord (M)has heard the sound of my weeping.
The Lord (N)has heard my pleading,
The Lord (O)receives my prayer.
10 All my enemies will (P)be put to shame and greatly horrified;
They shall [e]turn back, they will (Q)suddenly be put to shame.

The Lord Implored to Defend the Psalmist against the Wicked.

A [f]Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the Lord [g]concerning Cush, a Benjaminite.

O Lord my God, (R)in You I have taken refuge;
Save me from all those who pursue me, and (S)rescue me,
Or he will tear [h]my soul (T)like a lion,
Dragging me away, while there is no one to rescue me.

O Lord my God, if I have done this,
If there is (U)injustice in my hands,
If I have (V)done evil to [i]my friend,
Or have (W)plundered [j]my enemy for no reason,
Let the enemy pursue [k]my soul and overtake [l]it;
And let him trample my life to the ground
And lay my glory in the dust. Selah

(X)Arise, Lord, in Your anger;
(Y)Raise Yourself against (Z)the rage of my enemies,
And (AA)stir Yourself [m]for me; You have ordered judgment.
Let the assembly of the (AB)peoples encompass You,
And return on high over it.
The Lord (AC)judges the peoples;
[n](AD)Vindicate me, Lord, according to my righteousness and my integrity that is in me.
Please let (AE)the evil of the wicked come to an end, but (AF)establish the righteous;
For the righteous God (AG)puts hearts and [o]minds to the test.
10 My (AH)shield is [p]with God,
Who (AI)saves the upright in heart.
11 God is a (AJ)righteous judge,
And a God who (AK)shows indignation every day.

12 If one (AL)does not repent, He will (AM)sharpen His sword;
He has (AN)bent His bow and taken aim.
13 He has also prepared deadly weapons for Himself;
He makes His (AO)arrows fiery shafts.
14 Behold, an evil person is pregnant with injustice,
And he (AP)conceives harm and gives birth to lies.
15 He has dug a pit and hollowed it out,
And has (AQ)fallen into the hole which he made.
16 His (AR)harm will return on his own head,
And his (AS)violence will descend on the top of his own head.

17 I will give thanks to the Lord (AT)according to His righteousness
And will (AU)sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.

The Lords Glory and Mankind’s Dignity.

For the music director; on the Gittith. A Psalm of David.

Lord, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth,
You who have [q](AV)displayed Your splendor above the heavens!
(AW)From the mouths of infants and nursing babies You have established [r](AX)strength
Because of Your enemies,
To do away with (AY)the enemy and the revengeful.

When I [s](AZ)consider (BA)Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The (BB)moon and the stars, which You have set in place;
(BC)What is man that You think of him,
And a son of man that You are concerned about him?
Yet You have made him a (BD)little lower than [t]God,
And (BE)You crown him with (BF)glory and majesty!
You have him (BG)rule over the works of Your hands;
You have (BH)put everything under his feet,
All sheep and oxen,
And also the animals of the field,
The birds of the sky, and the fish of the sea,
Whatever passes through the paths of the seas.

(BI)Lord, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth!

Thanksgiving for God’s Justice.

For the music director; on [u]Muth-labben. A Psalm of David.

I will give thanks to the Lord with all (BJ)my heart;
I will (BK)tell of all Your [v]wonders.
I will rejoice and be (BL)jubilant in You;
I will (BM)sing praise to Your name, O (BN)Most High.

When my enemies turn back,
They stumble and (BO)perish before You.
For You have (BP)maintained [w]my just cause;
You have sat on the throne [x](BQ)judging righteously.
You have (BR)rebuked the nations, You have eliminated the wicked;
You have (BS)wiped out their name forever and ever.
[y]The enemy has come to an end in everlasting ruins,
And You have uprooted the cities;
The very (BT)memory of them has perished.

But the (BU)Lord [z]sits as King forever;
He has established His (BV)throne for judgment,
And He will (BW)judge the world in righteousness;
He will execute judgment for the peoples fairly.
[aa]The Lord will also be a (BX)stronghold for the oppressed,
A stronghold in times of trouble;
10 And [ab]those who (BY)know Your name will put their trust in You,
For You, Lord, have not (BZ)abandoned those who seek You.

11 Sing praises to the Lord, who (CA)dwells in Zion;
(CB)Declare His deeds among the peoples.
12 For (CC)He who [ac]requires blood remembers them;
He does not forget (CD)the cry of the needy.
13 Be gracious to me, Lord;
See my oppression from those (CE)who hate me,
You who (CF)lift me up from the gates of death,
14 So that I may tell of (CG)all Your praises,
That in the gates of the daughter of Zion
I may (CH)rejoice in Your [ad]salvation.
15 The nations have sunk down (CI)into the pit which they have made;
In the (CJ)net which they hid, their own foot has been caught.
16 The Lord has (CK)made Himself known;
He has (CL)executed judgment.
A wicked one is ensnared in the work of his own hands. [ae]Higgaion Selah

17 The wicked will [af](CM)return to [ag]Sheol,
All the nations who (CN)forget God.
18 For the (CO)needy will not always be forgotten,
Nor the (CP)hope of the afflicted perish forever.
19 (CQ)Arise, Lord, do not let mankind prevail;
Let the nations be (CR)judged before You.
20 Put them (CS)in fear, Lord;
Let the nations know that they are (CT)merely human. Selah

A Prayer for the Overthrow of the Wicked.

10 Why (CU)do You stand far away, Lord?
Why (CV)do You hide [ah]Yourself in times of trouble?
In (CW)arrogance the wicked hotly pursue the needy;
[ai]Let them be (CX)caught in the plots which they have devised.

For the wicked (CY)boasts of his (CZ)soul’s desire,
And [aj]the greedy person curses and (DA)shows disrespect to the Lord.
The wicked, [ak]in his haughtiness, (DB)does not seek Him.
(DC)There is no God in all his schemes.

His ways (DD)succeed at all times;
Yet Your judgments are on high, (DE)out of his sight;
As for all his enemies, he snorts at them.
He says to himself, “(DF)I will not be moved;
[al]Throughout the generations (DG)I will not be in adversity.”
His (DH)mouth is full of cursing, deceit, and (DI)oppression;
(DJ)Under his tongue is harm and injustice.
He sits in the (DK)lurking places of the villages;
He (DL)kills the innocent in the secret places;
His eyes [am]surreptitiously watch for the [an](DM)unfortunate.
He lurks in secret like (DN)a lion in his [ao]lair;
He (DO)lurks to catch (DP)the needy;
He catches the needy when he pulls him into his (DQ)net.
10 Then he crushes the needy one, who cowers;
And [ap]unfortunate people fall by his mighty power.
11 He (DR)says to himself, “God has forgotten;
He has hidden His face; He will never see it.”

12 Arise, Lord; God, (DS)lift up Your hand.
(DT)Do not forget the humble.
13 Why has the wicked (DU)treated God disrespectfully?
He has said to himself, “[aq]You will not require an account.”
14 You have seen it, for You have looked at (DV)harm and provocation to [ar]take it into Your hand.
The [as](DW)unfortunate commits himself to You;
You have been the (DX)helper of the orphan.
15 (DY)Break the arm of the wicked and the evildoer,
[at](DZ)Seek out his wickedness until You find none.

16 The Lord is (EA)King forever and ever;
(EB)Nations have perished from His land.
17 Lord, You have heard the (EC)desire of the humble;
You will (ED)strengthen their heart, (EE)You will make Your ear attentive
18 To [au]vindicate the (EF)orphan and the (EG)oppressed,
So that mankind, which is of the earth, will no longer cause (EH)terror.

The Lord, a Refuge and Defense.

For the music director. A Psalm of David.

11 In the Lord I (EI)take refuge;
How can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your (EJ)mountain?
For, behold, the wicked (EK)bend the bow,
They have [av](EL)set their arrow on the string
To (EM)shoot in darkness at the upright in heart.
If the (EN)foundations are destroyed,
What can the righteous do?”

The Lord is in His (EO)holy temple; the [aw]Lords (EP)throne is in heaven;
His (EQ)eyes see, His eyelids test the sons of mankind.
The Lord (ER)tests the righteous and (ES)the wicked,
And His soul hates one who loves violence.
He will (ET)rain [ax]coals of fire upon the wicked,
(EU)And brimstone and (EV)burning wind will be the portion of (EW)their cup.
For the Lord is (EX)righteous, (EY)He loves [ay]righteousness;
The upright will (EZ)see His face.

God, a Helper against the Treacherous.

For the music director; [az]upon an eight-stringed lyre. A Psalm of David.

12 Help, Lord, for (FA)the godly person has come to an end,
For the faithful have disappeared from the sons of mankind.
They (FB)speak [ba]lies to one another;
They speak with [bb](FC)flattering lips and a double heart.
May the Lord cut off all [bc]flattering lips,
The tongue that (FD)speaks great things;
Who (FE)have said, “With our tongue we will prevail;
Our lips are [bd]our own; who is lord over us?”
“Because of the (FF)devastation of the poor, because of the groaning of the needy,
Now (FG)I will arise,” says the Lord; “I will (FH)put him in the safety for which he longs.”

The (FI)words of the Lord are pure words;
Like silver (FJ)refined in a furnace on the ground, filtered seven times.
You, Lord, will keep them;
You will (FK)protect him from this generation forever.
The (FL)wicked strut about on every side
When [be](FM)vileness is exalted among the sons of mankind.

Prayer for Help in Trouble.

For the music director. A Psalm of David.

13 How long, Lord? Will You (FN)forget me forever?
How long (FO)will You hide Your face from me?
How long am I to (FP)feel anxious in my soul,
With (FQ)grief in my heart all the day?
How long will my enemy be exalted over me?

(FR)Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;
(FS)Enlighten my eyes, or I will (FT)sleep the sleep of death,
And my enemy will (FU)say, “I have overcome him,”
And (FV)my adversaries will rejoice when I am shaken.

But I have (FW)trusted in Your faithfulness;
My heart shall (FX)rejoice in Your salvation.
I will (FY)sing to the Lord,
Because He has (FZ)looked after me.

Foolishness and Wickedness of People.

For the music director. A Psalm of David.

14 The fool has (GA)said in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, they have committed detestable acts;
There is (GB)no one who does good.
The Lord has (GC)looked down from heaven upon the sons of mankind
To see if there are any who [bf](GD)understand,
Who (GE)seek God.
They have all (GF)turned aside, together they are corrupt;
There is (GG)no one who does good, not even one.

Do all the workers of injustice (GH)not know,
Who (GI)devour my people as they eat bread,
And (GJ)do not call upon the Lord?
There they are in great dread,
For God is with a (GK)righteous generation.
You would put to shame the plan of the poor,
But the Lord is his (GL)refuge.

Oh, that (GM)the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion!
When the Lord (GN)restores the fortunes of His people,
Jacob will rejoice, Israel will be glad.

Description of a Citizen of Zion.

A Psalm of David.

15 Lord, who may reside (GO)in Your tent?
Who may settle on Your (GP)holy hill?
One who (GQ)walks with integrity, practices righteousness,
And (GR)speaks truth in his heart.
He (GS)does not slander [bg]with his tongue,
Nor (GT)do evil to his neighbor,
Nor (GU)bring shame on his friend;
A despicable person is despised in his eyes,
But he (GV)honors those who fear the Lord;
He (GW)takes an oath to his own detriment, and does not change;
He (GX)does not [bh]lend his money [bi]at interest,
Nor (GY)does he take a bribe against the innocent.
(GZ)One who does these things will never be shaken.

The Lord, the Psalmist’s Portion in Life and Salvation in Death.

A [bj]Mikhtam of David.

16 (HA)Protect me, God, for (HB)I take refuge in You.
[bk]I said to the Lord, “You are [bl]my Lord;
I (HC)have nothing good besides You.”
As for the [bm](HD)saints who are on the earth,
[bn]They are the majestic ones; (HE)all my delight is in them.
[bo]The (HF)pains of those who have acquired another god will be multiplied;
I will not pour out their drink offerings of (HG)blood,
Nor will I (HH)take their names upon my lips.

The Lord is the (HI)portion of my inheritance and my (HJ)cup;
You support my (HK)lot.
The measuring (HL)lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
Indeed, my inheritance is (HM)beautiful to me.

I will bless the Lord who has (HN)advised me;
Indeed, my [bp](HO)mind instructs me in the night.
(HP)I have (HQ)set the Lord continually before me;
Because He is (HR)at my right hand, (HS)I will not be shaken.
Therefore (HT)my heart is glad and (HU)my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will (HV)dwell securely.
10 For You (HW)will not abandon my soul to [bq]Sheol;
You will not [br](HX)allow Your [bs]Holy One to [bt]undergo decay.
11 You will make known to me (HY)the way of life;
In (HZ)Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are (IA)pleasures forever.

Prayer for Protection against Oppressors.

A Prayer of David.

17 Hear a (IB)just cause, Lord, (IC)give Your attention to my cry;
(ID)Listen to my prayer, which is not from (IE)deceitful lips.
Let (IF)my [bu]judgment come forth from Your presence;
Let Your eyes look with (IG)integrity.
You have (IH)put my heart to the test;
You have visited me by night;
You have (II)sifted me and (IJ)You find [bv]nothing;
My (IK)intent is that my mouth will not offend.
As for the works of mankind, (IL)by the word of Your lips
I have kept from the (IM)ways of the violent.
My (IN)steps have held to Your [bw]paths.
My (IO)feet have not slipped.

I have (IP)called upon You, for You will answer me, God;
(IQ)Incline Your ear to me, hear my speech.
(IR)Show Your wonderful faithfulness,
(IS)Savior of those who take refuge [bx]at Your right hand
From those who rise up against them.
Keep me as [by]the (IT)apple of the eye;
Hide me (IU)in the shadow of Your wings
From the (IV)wicked who deal violently with me,
My (IW)deadly enemies who surround me.
10 They have (IX)closed their [bz]unfeeling hearts,
With their mouths they (IY)speak proudly.
11 They have now (IZ)surrounded us in our steps;
They set their eyes (JA)to cast us down to the ground.
12 He is (JB)like a lion that is eager to tear,
And as a young lion (JC)lurking in secret places.

13 (JD)Arise, Lord, confront him, (JE)make him bow down;
(JF)Save my soul from the wicked with (JG)Your sword,
14 From people by (JH)Your hand, Lord,
From people [ca]of the world, (JI)whose portion is in this life,
And whose belly You (JJ)fill with Your treasure;
They are satisfied with children,
And leave their abundance to their babies.
15 As for me, I shall (JK)behold Your face in righteousness;
(JL)I shall be satisfied with Your (JM)likeness when I awake.

The Lord Praised for Rescuing David.

For the music director. A Psalm of David, the servant of the Lord, [cb]who spoke to the Lord the words of this song on the day that the Lord rescued him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said,

18 “I love You, Lord, (JN)my strength.”
The Lord is (JO)my rock and (JP)my fortress and my (JQ)savior,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My (JR)shield and the (JS)horn of my salvation, my (JT)stronghold.
I call upon the Lord, who is (JU)worthy to be praised,
And I am (JV)saved from my enemies.

The (JW)ropes of death encompassed me,
And the (JX)torrents of [cc]destruction [cd]terrified me.
The (JY)ropes of [ce]Sheol surrounded me;
The snares of death confronted me.
In my (JZ)distress I called upon the Lord,
And cried to my God for help;
He heard my voice (KA)from His temple,
And my (KB)cry for help before Him came into His ears.

Then the (KC)earth shook and quaked;
And the (KD)foundations of the mountains were trembling
And were shaken, because He was angry.
Smoke went up [cf]out of His nostrils,
And (KE)fire from His mouth was devouring;
Coals burned from it.
He also (KF)bowed the heavens down low, and came down
With thick (KG)darkness under His feet.
10 He rode on a (KH)cherub and flew;
And He sped on the (KI)wings of the wind.
11 He made (KJ)darkness His hiding place, (KK)His [cg]canopy around Him,
Darkness of waters, thick clouds.
12 From the (KL)brightness before Him passed His thick clouds,
Hailstones and (KM)coals of fire.
13 The Lord also (KN)thundered in the heavens,
And the Most High uttered His voice,
Hailstones and coals of fire.
14 He (KO)sent out His arrows, and scattered them,
And lightning flashes in abundance, and [ch]routed them.
15 Then the (KP)channels of water appeared,
And the foundations of the world were exposed
By Your (KQ)rebuke, Lord,
At the blast of the (KR)breath of Your nostrils.

16 He (KS)sent from on high, He took me;
He drew me out of (KT)many waters.
17 He (KU)saved me from my strong enemy,
And from those who hated me, for they were (KV)too mighty for me.
18 They confronted me in (KW)the day of my disaster,
But (KX)the Lord was my support.
19 He also brought me out into an (KY)open place;
He rescued me, because (KZ)He delighted in me.

20 The Lord has (LA)rewarded me according to my righteousness;
According to the (LB)cleanness of my hands He has repaid me.
21 For I have (LC)kept the ways of the Lord,
And have (LD)not acted wickedly against my God.
22 For all (LE)His judgments were before me,
And I did not put away His (LF)statutes from me.
23 I was also [ci](LG)blameless with Him,
And I (LH)kept myself from my wrongdoing.
24 Therefore the Lord has (LI)repaid me according to my righteousness,
According to the cleanness of my hands in His eyes.

25 With (LJ)the faithful You show Yourself faithful;
With the [cj]blameless (LK)You prove Yourself blameless;
26 With the pure You show Yourself (LL)pure,
And with the crooked (LM)You show Yourself [ck]astute.
27 For You (LN)save an afflicted people,
But You humiliate (LO)haughty eyes.
28 For You (LP)light my lamp;
The Lord my God (LQ)illumines my darkness.
29 For by You I can (LR)run at a [cl]troop of warriors;
And by my God I can (LS)leap over a wall.

30 As for God, His way is [cm](LT)blameless;
The (LU)word of the Lord is refined;
He is a (LV)shield to all who take refuge in Him.
31 For (LW)who is God, but the Lord?
And who is a (LX)rock, except our God,
32 The God who (LY)encircles me with strength,
And [cn]makes my way [co](LZ)blameless?
33 He (MA)makes my feet like deer’s feet,
And (MB)sets me up on my high places.
34 He (MC)trains my hands for battle,
So that my arms can (MD)bend a bow of bronze.
35 You have also given me (ME)the shield of Your salvation,
And Your (MF)right hand upholds me;
And (MG)Your [cp]gentleness makes me great.
36 You (MH)enlarge my steps under me,
And my [cq](MI)feet have not slipped.

37 I (MJ)pursued my enemies and overtook them,
And I did not turn back (MK)until they were consumed.
38 I shattered them, so that they were (ML)not able to rise;
They fell (MM)under my feet.
39 For You have (MN)encircled me with strength for battle;
You have forced those who rose up against me (MO)to bow down under me.
40 You have also made my enemies (MP)turn their backs to me,
And I [cr](MQ)destroyed those who hated me.
41 They cried for help, but there was (MR)no one to save,
They cried to the Lord, but (MS)He did not answer them.
42 Then I beat them fine like the (MT)dust before the wind;
I emptied them out like the mud of the streets.

43 You have rescued me from the (MU)contentions of the people;
You have placed me as (MV)head of the nations;
A (MW)people whom I have not known serve me.
44 As soon as they hear, they obey me;
Foreigners (MX)pretend to obey me.
45 Foreigners (MY)lose heart,
And (MZ)come trembling out of their [cs]fortresses.

46 The Lord (NA)lives, and blessed be (NB)my rock;
And exalted be (NC)the God of my salvation,
47 The God who (ND)executes vengeance for me,
And (NE)subdues peoples under me.
48 He (NF)rescues me from my enemies;
You indeed (NG)lift me above those who rise up against me;
You rescue me from a (NH)violent man.
49 Therefore I will (NI)give thanks to You among the nations, Lord,
And I will (NJ)sing praises to Your name.
50 He gives great [ct](NK)salvation to His king,
And shows faithfulness to (NL)His anointed,
To David and (NM)his [cu]descendants forever.

The Works and the Word of God.

For the music director. A Psalm of David.

19 The (NN)heavens tell of the glory of God;
And their (NO)expanse declares the work of His hands.
Day to (NP)day pours forth speech,
And (NQ)night to night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words;
Their voice is not heard.
Their [cv](NR)line has gone out into all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.
In them He has (NS)placed a tent for the sun,
Which is like a groom coming out of his chamber;
It rejoices like a strong person to run his course.
Its (NT)rising is from [cw]one end of the heavens,
And its circuit to the [cx]other end of them;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat.

(NU)The Law of the Lord is [cy](NV)perfect, (NW)restoring the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is (NX)sure, making (NY)wise the simple.
The precepts of the Lord are (NZ)right, (OA)rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is (OB)pure, (OC)enlightening the eyes.
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are (OD)true; they are (OE)righteous altogether.
10 They are more desirable than (OF)gold, yes, than much pure gold;
(OG)Sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, (OH)Your servant is warned by them;
In keeping them there is great (OI)reward.
12 Who can (OJ)discern his errors? (OK)Acquit me of (OL)hidden faults.
13 Also keep Your servant back (OM)from presumptuous sins;
Let them not (ON)rule over me;
Then I will be (OO)innocent,
And I will be blameless of (OP)great wrongdoing.
14 May the words of my mouth and (OQ)the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
Lord, (OR)my rock and my (OS)Redeemer.

Prayer for Victory over Enemies.

For the music director. A Psalm of David.

20 May the Lord answer you (OT)on a day of trouble!
May the (OU)name of the (OV)God of Jacob [cz]protect you!
May He send you help (OW)from the sanctuary,
And (OX)support you from Zion!
May He (OY)remember all your meal offerings
And [da](OZ)accept your burnt offering! Selah

May He grant you your (PA)heart’s desire
And (PB)fulfill your whole plan!
[db]We will (PC)sing for joy over your [dc]victory,
And in the name of our God we will (PD)set up our banners.
May the Lord (PE)fulfill all your desires.

Now (PF)I know that the Lord saves His anointed;
He will (PG)answer him from His holy heaven
With the [dd](PH)saving strength of His right hand.
Some praise their chariots and some their (PI)horses,
But (PJ)we will praise the name of the Lord, our God.
They have (PK)bowed down and fallen,
But we have (PL)risen and stood upright.
[de](PM)Save, Lord;
May the (PN)King answer us on the day we call.

Praise for Salvation.

For the music director. A Psalm of David.

21 Lord, in Your strength the king will (PO)be glad,
And in Your [df]salvation how greatly he will rejoice!
You have (PP)given him his heart’s desire,
And You have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah
For You (PQ)meet him with the blessings of good things;
You set a (PR)crown of pure gold on his head.
He asked for life from You,
You (PS)gave it to him,
(PT)Length of days forever and ever.
His (PU)glory is great through Your [dg]salvation,
(PV)Splendor and majesty You place upon him.
For You make him [dh]most (PW)blessed forever;
You make him joyful (PX)with the joy of Your presence.

For the king (PY)trusts in the Lord,
And through the faithfulness of the Most High (PZ)he will not be shaken.
Your hand will (QA)find all your enemies;
Your right hand will find those who hate you.
You will make them (QB)as a fiery oven in the time [di]of your anger;
The Lord will (QC)swallow them up in His wrath,
And (QD)fire will devour them.
10 You will eliminate their [dj]descendants from the earth,
And their [dk](QE)children from among the sons of mankind.
11 Though they [dl](QF)intended evil against You
And (QG)devised a plot,
They will not succeed.
12 For You will (QH)make them turn their back;
You will take aim at their faces (QI)with Your bowstrings.
13 Be exalted, Lord, in Your strength;
We will (QJ)sing and praise Your power.

A Cry of Anguish and a Song of Praise.

For the music director; upon [dm]Aijeleth Hashshahar. A Psalm of David.

22 (QK)My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?
(QL)Far from my [dn]help are the words of my [do](QM)groaning.
My God, I (QN)cry out by day, but You do not answer;
And by night, but [dp]I have no rest.
Yet (QO)You are holy,
You who [dq]are enthroned upon (QP)the praises of Israel.
In You our fathers (QQ)trusted;
They trusted and You (QR)rescued them.
To You they cried out and they fled to safety;
(QS)In You they trusted and were not [dr]disappointed.

But I am a (QT)worm and not a person,
A (QU)disgrace of mankind and (QV)despised by the people.
All who see me (QW)deride me;
They [ds]sneer, they (QX)shake their heads, saying,
[dt]Turn [du]him over to the Lord; (QY)let Him save him;
Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him.”

Yet You are He who (QZ)brought me forth from the womb;
You made me trust when upon my mother’s breasts.
10 I was cast upon You (RA)from [dv]birth;
You have been my God from my mother’s womb.

11 (RB)Do not be far from me, for [dw]trouble is near;
For there is (RC)no one to help.
12 Many (RD)bulls have surrounded me;
Strong bulls of (RE)Bashan have encircled me.
13 They (RF)open their mouths wide at me,
As a ravening and roaring (RG)lion.
14 I am (RH)poured out like water,
And all my (RI)bones are out of joint;
My (RJ)heart is like wax;
It is melted within [dx]me.
15 My (RK)strength is dried up like a piece of pottery,
And (RL)my tongue clings to my jaws;
And You (RM)lay me [dy]in the dust of death.
16 For (RN)dogs have surrounded me;
[dz]A band of evildoers has encompassed me;
[ea]They (RO)pierced my hands and my feet.
17 I can count all my bones.
(RP)They look, they stare at me;
18 They (RQ)divide my garments among them,
And they cast lots for my clothing.

19 But You, Lord, (RR)do not be far away;
You who are my help, (RS)hurry to my assistance.
20 Save my [eb]soul from (RT)the sword,
My (RU)only life from the [ec]power of the dog.
21 Save me from the (RV)lion’s mouth;
From the horns of the (RW)wild oxen You (RX)answer me.

22 I will (RY)proclaim Your name to my brothers;
In the midst of the assembly I will praise You.
23 (RZ)You who fear the Lord, praise Him;
All you [ed]descendants of Jacob, (SA)glorify Him,
And (SB)stand in awe of Him, all you [ee]descendants of Israel.
24 For He has (SC)not despised nor scorned the suffering of the afflicted;
Nor has He (SD)hidden His face from him;
But (SE)when he cried to Him for help, He heard.

25 From You comes (SF)my praise in the great assembly;
I shall (SG)pay my vows before those who fear Him.
26 The [ef]afflicted will eat and (SH)be satisfied;
Those who seek Him will (SI)praise the Lord.
May your (SJ)heart live forever!
27 All the (SK)ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord,
And all the (SL)families of the nations will worship before [eg]You.
28 For the (SM)kingdom is the Lords
And He (SN)rules over the nations.
29 All the [eh](SO)prosperous of the earth will eat and worship,
All those who (SP)go down to the dust will kneel before Him,
Even he who [ei](SQ)cannot keep his soul alive.
30 A [ej](SR)posterity will serve Him;
It will be told of the Lord to (SS)the coming generation.
31 They will come and (ST)will declare His righteousness
To a people (SU)who will be born, that He has performed it.

The Lord, the Psalmist’s Shepherd.

A Psalm of David.

23 The Lord is my (SV)shepherd,
I will (SW)not be in need.
He lets me lie down in (SX)green pastures;
He (SY)leads me beside [ek](SZ)quiet waters.
He (TA)restores my soul;
He (TB)guides me in the [el](TC)paths of righteousness
For the sake of His name.

Even though I (TD)walk through the [em]valley of the shadow of death,
I (TE)fear no [en]evil, for (TF)You are with me;
Your (TG)rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You (TH)prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You [eo]have (TI)anointed my head with oil;
My (TJ)cup overflows.
[ep]Certainly (TK)goodness and [eq]faithfulness will follow me all the days of my life,
And my (TL)dwelling will be in the house of the Lord [er]forever.

The King of Glory Entering Zion.

A Psalm of David.

24 The (TM)earth is the Lords, and [es]all it contains,
The (TN)world, and those who live in it.
For He has (TO)founded it upon the seas
And established it upon the rivers.
Who may (TP)ascend onto the (TQ)hill of the Lord?
And who may stand in His holy (TR)place?
One who has (TS)clean hands and a (TT)pure heart,
Who has not (TU)lifted up his soul to deceit
And has not (TV)sworn deceitfully.
He will receive a (TW)blessing from the Lord
And [et](TX)righteousness from the God of his salvation.
[eu]This is the generation of those who (TY)seek Him,
Who seek Your face—even Jacob. Selah

(TZ)Lift up your heads, you gates,
And be lifted up, you [ev]ancient doors,
That the King of (UA)glory may come in!
Who is the King of glory?
The Lord (UB)strong and mighty,
The Lord (UC)mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, you gates,
And lift them up, you [ew]ancient doors,
That the King of (UD)glory may come in!
10 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord of (UE)armies,
He is the King of glory. Selah

Prayer for Protection, Guidance, and Pardon.

A Psalm of David.

25 To You, Lord, I (UF)lift up my soul.
My God, in You (UG)I trust,
Do not let me (UH)be ashamed;
Do not let my (UI)enemies rejoice over me.
Indeed, (UJ)none of those who wait for You will be ashamed;
[ex]Those who (UK)deal treacherously without cause will be ashamed.

(UL)Make me know Your ways, Lord;
Teach me Your paths.
Lead me in (UM)Your truth and teach me,
For You are the (UN)God of my salvation;
For You I (UO)wait all the day.
(UP)Remember, Lord, Your compassion and Your faithfulness,
For they have been [ey](UQ)from of old.
Do not remember the (UR)sins of my youth or my wrongdoings;
(US)Remember me according to Your faithfulness,
For Your (UT)goodness’ sake, Lord.

(UU)The Lord is good and (UV)upright;
Therefore He (UW)instructs sinners in the way.
He (UX)leads the [ez]humble in justice,
And He (UY)teaches the [fa]humble His way.
10 All the paths of the Lord are (UZ)faithfulness and truth
To (VA)those who comply with His covenant and His testimonies.
11 For the (VB)sake of Your name, Lord,
(VC)Forgive my wrongdoing, for it is great.

12 Who is the person who (VD)fears the Lord?
He will (VE)instruct him in the way he should choose.
13 His soul will (VF)dwell in [fb]prosperity,
And his [fc]descendants will (VG)inherit the [fd]land.
14 The [fe](VH)secret of the Lord is for those who fear Him,
[ff]And He will (VI)make them know His covenant.
15 My (VJ)eyes are continually toward the Lord,
For He will [fg](VK)rescue my feet from the net.

16 (VL)Turn to me and be gracious to me,
For I am (VM)lonely and afflicted.
17 [fh]The (VN)troubles of my heart are enlarged;
Bring me (VO)out of my distresses.
18 (VP)Look at my misery and my trouble,
And (VQ)forgive all my sins.
19 Look at my enemies, for they (VR)are many,
And they (VS)hate me with violent hatred.
20 (VT)Guard my soul and save me;
Do not let me (VU)be ashamed, for I take refuge in You.
21 Let (VV)integrity and uprightness protect me,
For (VW)I wait for You.
22 (VX)Redeem Israel, God,
From all his distress.

Protestation of Integrity and Prayer for Protection.

A Psalm of David.

26 [fi](VY)Vindicate me, Lord, for I have (VZ)walked in my integrity,
And I have (WA)trusted in the Lord [fj](WB)without wavering.
(WC)Examine me, Lord, and put me to the test;
(WD)Refine my [fk]mind and my heart.
For Your (WE)[fl]goodness is before my eyes,
And I have (WF)walked in Your truth.
I do not (WG)sit with [fm]deceitful people,
Nor will I go with [fn](WH)pretenders.
I (WI)hate the assembly of evildoers,
And I will not sit with the wicked.
I will (WJ)wash my hands in innocence,
And I will go around (WK)Your altar, Lord,
That I may proclaim with the voice of (WL)thanksgiving
And declare all Your [fo]wonders.

Lord, I (WM)love the dwelling of Your house,
And the place [fp]where Your (WN)glory remains.
(WO)Do not [fq]take my soul away along with sinners,
Nor my life with (WP)men of bloodshed,
10 In whose hands is a (WQ)wicked scheme,
And whose right hand is full of (WR)bribes.
11 But as for me, I will (WS)walk in my integrity;
(WT)Redeem me, and be gracious to me.
12 (WU)My foot stands on (WV)level ground;
In the (WW)congregations I will bless the Lord.

A Psalm of Fearless Trust in God.

A Psalm of David.

27 The Lord is my (WX)light and my (WY)salvation;
Whom should I fear?
The Lord is the [fr](WZ)defense of my life;
(XA)Whom should I dread?
When evildoers came upon me to (XB)devour my flesh,
My adversaries and my enemies, they (XC)stumbled and fell.
If an (XD)army encamps against me,
My heart will not fear;
If war arises against me,
In spite of this I am (XE)confident.

(XF)One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek:
That I may (XG)dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
To behold (XH)the [fs]beauty of the Lord
And to [ft](XI)meditate in His temple.
For on the (XJ)day of trouble He will (XK)conceal me in His [fu]tabernacle;
He will (XL)hide me in the secret place of His tent;
He will (XM)lift me up on a rock.
And now (XN)my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me,
And I will offer (XO)sacrifices in His tent [fv]with shouts of joy;
I will (XP)sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.

(XQ)Hear, Lord, when I cry with my voice,
And be gracious to me and (XR)answer me.
When You said, “(XS)Seek My face,” my heart said to You,
(XT)I shall seek Your face, Lord.”
(XU)Do not hide Your face from me,
Do not turn Your servant away in (XV)anger;
You have been (XW)my help;
(XX)Do not abandon me nor (XY)forsake me,
God of my salvation!
10 [fw]For my father and (XZ)my mother have forsaken me,
But (YA)the Lord will take me up.

11 (YB)Teach me Your way, Lord,
And lead me on a (YC)level path
Because of my enemies.
12 Do not turn me over to the [fx](YD)desire of my enemies,
For (YE)false witnesses have risen against me,
And the violent (YF)witness.
13 I certainly believed that I would see the (YG)goodness of the Lord
In the (YH)land of the living.
14 (YI)Wait for the Lord;
Be (YJ)strong and let your heart take courage;
Yes, wait for the Lord.

A Prayer for Help, and Praise for Its Answer.

A Psalm of David.

28 To You, Lord, I call;
My (YK)rock, do not be deaf to me,
For if You (YL)are silent to me,
I will become like those who (YM)go down to the pit.
Hear the (YN)sound of my pleadings when I cry to You for help,
When I (YO)raise my hands (YP)toward [fy]Your holy (YQ)sanctuary.
(YR)Do not drag me away with the wicked
And with those who practice injustice,
Who (YS)speak peace with their neighbors,
While evil is in their hearts.
Give back to them (YT)according to their work and according to the evil of their practices;
Give back to them according to the work of their hands;
Repay them what is due them.
Because they (YU)do not regard the works of the Lord
Nor the deeds of His hands,
He will tear them down and not build them up.

Blessed be the Lord,
Because He (YV)has heard the sound of my pleading.
The Lord is my (YW)strength and my (YX)shield;
My heart (YY)trusts in Him, and I am helped;
Therefore (YZ)my heart triumphs,
And with (ZA)my song I shall thank Him.
The Lord is [fz]their (ZB)strength,
And He is a refuge of (ZC)salvation to His anointed.
(ZD)Save Your people and bless (ZE)Your inheritance;
Be their (ZF)shepherd also, and (ZG)carry them forever.

    a God who displays his wrath(AT) every day.
12 If he does not relent,(AU)
    he[g] will sharpen his sword;(AV)
    he will bend and string his bow.(AW)
13 He has prepared his deadly weapons;
    he makes ready his flaming arrows.(AX)

14 Whoever is pregnant with evil
    conceives trouble and gives birth(AY) to disillusionment.
15 Whoever digs a hole and scoops it out
    falls into the pit(AZ) they have made.(BA)
16 The trouble they cause recoils on them;
    their violence comes down on their own heads.

17 I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness;(BB)
    I will sing the praises(BC) of the name of the Lord Most High.(BD)

Psalm 8[h]

For the director of music. According to gittith.[i] A psalm of David.

Lord, our Lord,
    how majestic is your name(BE) in all the earth!

You have set your glory(BF)
    in the heavens.(BG)
Through the praise of children and infants
    you have established a stronghold(BH) against your enemies,
    to silence the foe(BI) and the avenger.
When I consider your heavens,(BJ)
    the work of your fingers,(BK)
the moon and the stars,(BL)
    which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
    human beings that you care for them?[j](BM)

You have made them[k] a little lower than the angels[l](BN)
    and crowned them[m] with glory and honor.(BO)
You made them rulers(BP) over the works of your hands;(BQ)
    you put everything under their[n] feet:(BR)
all flocks and herds,(BS)
    and the animals of the wild,(BT)
the birds in the sky,
    and the fish in the sea,(BU)
    all that swim the paths of the seas.

Lord, our Lord,
    how majestic is your name in all the earth!(BV)

    I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.(BX)
I will be glad and rejoice(BY) in you;
    I will sing the praises(BZ) of your name,(CA) O Most High.

My enemies turn back;
    they stumble and perish before you.
For you have upheld my right(CB) and my cause,(CC)
    sitting enthroned(CD) as the righteous judge.(CE)
You have rebuked the nations(CF) and destroyed the wicked;
    you have blotted out their name(CG) for ever and ever.
Endless ruin has overtaken my enemies,
    you have uprooted their cities;(CH)
    even the memory of them(CI) has perished.

The Lord reigns forever;(CJ)
    he has established his throne(CK) for judgment.
He rules the world in righteousness(CL)
    and judges the peoples with equity.(CM)
The Lord is a refuge(CN) for the oppressed,(CO)
    a stronghold in times of trouble.(CP)
10 Those who know your name(CQ) trust in you,
    for you, Lord, have never forsaken(CR) those who seek you.(CS)

11 Sing the praises(CT) of the Lord, enthroned in Zion;(CU)
    proclaim among the nations(CV) what he has done.(CW)
12 For he who avenges blood(CX) remembers;
    he does not ignore the cries of the afflicted.(CY)

13 Lord, see how my enemies(CZ) persecute me!
    Have mercy(DA) and lift me up from the gates of death,(DB)
14 that I may declare your praises(DC)
    in the gates of Daughter Zion,(DD)
    and there rejoice in your salvation.(DE)

15 The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug;(DF)
    their feet are caught in the net they have hidden.(DG)
16 The Lord is known by his acts of justice;
    the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands.[q](DH)
17 The wicked go down to the realm of the dead,(DI)
    all the nations that forget God.(DJ)
18 But God will never forget the needy;
    the hope(DK) of the afflicted(DL) will never perish.

19 Arise,(DM) Lord, do not let mortals triumph;(DN)
    let the nations be judged(DO) in your presence.
20 Strike them with terror,(DP) Lord;
    let the nations know they are only mortal.(DQ)

Psalm 10[r]

Why, Lord, do you stand far off?(DR)
    Why do you hide yourself(DS) in times of trouble?

In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak,(DT)
    who are caught in the schemes he devises.
He boasts(DU) about the cravings of his heart;
    he blesses the greedy and reviles the Lord.(DV)
In his pride the wicked man does not seek him;
    in all his thoughts there is no room for God.(DW)
His ways are always prosperous;
    your laws are rejected by[s] him;
    he sneers at all his enemies.
He says to himself, “Nothing will ever shake me.”
    He swears, “No one will ever do me harm.”(DX)

His mouth is full(DY) of lies and threats;(DZ)
    trouble and evil are under his tongue.(EA)
He lies in wait(EB) near the villages;
    from ambush he murders the innocent.(EC)
His eyes watch in secret for his victims;
    like a lion in cover he lies in wait.
He lies in wait to catch the helpless;(ED)
    he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.(EE)
10 His victims are crushed,(EF) they collapse;
    they fall under his strength.
11 He says to himself, “God will never notice;(EG)
    he covers his face and never sees.”(EH)

12 Arise,(EI) Lord! Lift up your hand,(EJ) O God.
    Do not forget the helpless.(EK)
13 Why does the wicked man revile God?(EL)
    Why does he say to himself,
    “He won’t call me to account”?(EM)
14 But you, God, see the trouble(EN) of the afflicted;
    you consider their grief and take it in hand.
The victims commit themselves to you;(EO)
    you are the helper(EP) of the fatherless.
15 Break the arm of the wicked man;(EQ)
    call the evildoer to account for his wickedness
    that would not otherwise be found out.

16 The Lord is King for ever and ever;(ER)
    the nations(ES) will perish from his land.
17 You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted;(ET)
    you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,(EU)
18 defending the fatherless(EV) and the oppressed,(EW)
    so that mere earthly mortals
    will never again strike terror.

Psalm 11

For the director of music. Of David.

In the Lord I take refuge.(EX)
    How then can you say to me:
    “Flee(EY) like a bird to your mountain.(EZ)
For look, the wicked bend their bows;(FA)
    they set their arrows(FB) against the strings
to shoot from the shadows(FC)
    at the upright in heart.(FD)
When the foundations(FE) are being destroyed,
    what can the righteous do?”

The Lord is in his holy temple;(FF)
    the Lord is on his heavenly throne.(FG)
He observes everyone on earth;(FH)
    his eyes examine(FI) them.
The Lord examines the righteous,(FJ)
    but the wicked, those who love violence,
    he hates with a passion.(FK)
On the wicked he will rain
    fiery coals and burning sulfur;(FL)
    a scorching wind(FM) will be their lot.

For the Lord is righteous,(FN)
    he loves justice;(FO)
    the upright(FP) will see his face.(FQ)

Psalm 12[t]

For the director of music. According to sheminith.[u] A psalm of David.

Help, Lord, for no one is faithful anymore;(FR)
    those who are loyal have vanished from the human race.
Everyone lies(FS) to their neighbor;
    they flatter with their lips
    but harbor deception in their hearts.(FT)

May the Lord silence all flattering lips(FU)
    and every boastful tongue—(FV)
those who say,
    “By our tongues we will prevail;(FW)
    our own lips will defend us—who is lord over us?”

“Because the poor are plundered(FX) and the needy groan,(FY)
    I will now arise,(FZ)” says the Lord.
    “I will protect them(GA) from those who malign them.”
And the words of the Lord are flawless,(GB)
    like silver purified(GC) in a crucible,(GD)
    like gold[v] refined seven times.

You, Lord, will keep the needy safe(GE)
    and will protect us forever from the wicked,(GF)
who freely strut(GG) about
    when what is vile is honored by the human race.

Psalm 13[w]

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

How long,(GH) Lord? Will you forget me(GI) forever?
    How long will you hide your face(GJ) from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts(GK)
    and day after day have sorrow in my heart?
    How long will my enemy triumph over me?(GL)

Look on me(GM) and answer,(GN) Lord my God.
    Give light to my eyes,(GO) or I will sleep in death,(GP)
and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,(GQ)
    and my foes will rejoice when I fall.(GR)

But I trust in your unfailing love;(GS)
    my heart rejoices in your salvation.(GT)
I will sing(GU) the Lord’s praise,
    for he has been good to me.

Psalm 14(GV)

For the director of music. Of David.

The fool[x] says in his heart,
    “There is no God.”(GW)
They are corrupt, their deeds are vile;
    there is no one who does good.

The Lord looks down from heaven(GX)
    on all mankind
to see if there are any who understand,(GY)
    any who seek God.(GZ)
All have turned away,(HA) all have become corrupt;(HB)
    there is no one who does good,(HC)
    not even one.(HD)

Do all these evildoers know nothing?(HE)

They devour my people(HF) as though eating bread;
    they never call on the Lord.(HG)
But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,
    for God is present in the company of the righteous.
You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor,
    but the Lord is their refuge.(HH)

Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!(HI)
    When the Lord restores(HJ) his people,
    let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!

Psalm 15

A psalm of David.

Lord, who may dwell(HK) in your sacred tent?(HL)
    Who may live on your holy mountain?(HM)

The one whose walk is blameless,(HN)
    who does what is righteous,
    who speaks the truth(HO) from their heart;
whose tongue utters no slander,(HP)
    who does no wrong to a neighbor,
    and casts no slur on others;
who despises a vile person
    but honors(HQ) those who fear the Lord;
who keeps an oath(HR) even when it hurts,
    and does not change their mind;
who lends money to the poor without interest;(HS)
    who does not accept a bribe(HT) against the innocent.

Whoever does these things
    will never be shaken.(HU)

Psalm 16

A miktam[y] of David.

Keep me safe,(HV) my God,
    for in you I take refuge.(HW)

I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;(HX)
    apart from you I have no good thing.”(HY)
I say of the holy people(HZ) who are in the land,(IA)
    “They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight.”
Those who run after other gods(IB) will suffer(IC) more and more.
    I will not pour out libations of blood to such gods
    or take up their names(ID) on my lips.

Lord, you alone are my portion(IE) and my cup;(IF)
    you make my lot(IG) secure.
The boundary lines(IH) have fallen for me in pleasant places;
    surely I have a delightful inheritance.(II)
I will praise the Lord, who counsels me;(IJ)
    even at night(IK) my heart instructs me.
I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
    With him at my right hand,(IL) I will not be shaken.(IM)

Therefore my heart is glad(IN) and my tongue rejoices;
    my body also will rest secure,(IO)
10 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,(IP)
    nor will you let your faithful[z] one(IQ) see decay.(IR)
11 You make known to me the path of life;(IS)
    you will fill me with joy in your presence,(IT)
    with eternal pleasures(IU) at your right hand.(IV)

Psalm 17

A prayer of David.

Hear me,(IW) Lord, my plea is just;
    listen to my cry.(IX)
Hear(IY) my prayer—
    it does not rise from deceitful lips.(IZ)
Let my vindication(JA) come from you;
    may your eyes see what is right.(JB)

Though you probe my heart,(JC)
    though you examine me at night and test me,(JD)
you will find that I have planned no evil;(JE)
    my mouth has not transgressed.(JF)
Though people tried to bribe me,
    I have kept myself from the ways of the violent
    through what your lips have commanded.
My steps have held to your paths;(JG)
    my feet have not stumbled.(JH)

I call on you, my God, for you will answer me;(JI)
    turn your ear to me(JJ) and hear my prayer.(JK)
Show me the wonders of your great love,(JL)
    you who save by your right hand(JM)
    those who take refuge(JN) in you from their foes.
Keep me(JO) as the apple of your eye;(JP)
    hide me(JQ) in the shadow of your wings(JR)
from the wicked who are out to destroy me,
    from my mortal enemies who surround me.(JS)

10 They close up their callous hearts,(JT)
    and their mouths speak with arrogance.(JU)
11 They have tracked me down, they now surround me,(JV)
    with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground.
12 They are like a lion(JW) hungry for prey,(JX)
    like a fierce lion crouching in cover.

13 Rise up,(JY) Lord, confront them, bring them down;(JZ)
    with your sword rescue me from the wicked.
14 By your hand save me from such people, Lord,
    from those of this world(KA) whose reward is in this life.(KB)
May what you have stored up for the wicked fill their bellies;
    may their children gorge themselves on it,
    and may there be leftovers(KC) for their little ones.

15 As for me, I will be vindicated and will see your face;
    when I awake,(KD) I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.(KE)

Psalm 18[aa](KF)

For the director of music. Of David the servant of the Lord. He sang to the Lord the words of this song when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said:

I love you, Lord, my strength.(KG)

The Lord is my rock,(KH) my fortress(KI) and my deliverer;(KJ)
    my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,(KK)
    my shield[ab](KL) and the horn[ac] of my salvation,(KM) my stronghold.

I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise,(KN)
    and I have been saved from my enemies.(KO)
The cords of death(KP) entangled me;
    the torrents(KQ) of destruction overwhelmed me.
The cords of the grave coiled around me;
    the snares of death(KR) confronted me.

In my distress(KS) I called to the Lord;(KT)
    I cried to my God for help.
From his temple he heard my voice;(KU)
    my cry came(KV) before him, into his ears.
The earth trembled(KW) and quaked,(KX)
    and the foundations of the mountains shook;(KY)

Smoke rose from his nostrils;(LA)
    consuming fire(LB) came from his mouth,
    burning coals(LC) blazed out of it.
He parted the heavens and came down;(LD)
    dark clouds(LE) were under his feet.
10 He mounted the cherubim(LF) and flew;
    he soared(LG) on the wings of the wind.(LH)
11 He made darkness his covering,(LI) his canopy(LJ) around him—
    the dark rain clouds of the sky.
12 Out of the brightness of his presence(LK) clouds advanced,
    with hailstones(LL) and bolts of lightning.(LM)
13 The Lord thundered(LN) from heaven;
    the voice of the Most High resounded.[ad]
14 He shot his arrows(LO) and scattered the enemy,
    with great bolts of lightning(LP) he routed them.(LQ)
15 The valleys of the sea were exposed
    and the foundations(LR) of the earth laid bare
at your rebuke,(LS) Lord,
    at the blast of breath from your nostrils.(LT)

16 He reached down from on high and took hold of me;
    he drew me out of deep waters.(LU)
17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy,(LV)
    from my foes, who were too strong for me.(LW)
18 They confronted me in the day of my disaster,(LX)
    but the Lord was my support.(LY)
19 He brought me out into a spacious place;(LZ)
    he rescued me because he delighted in me.(MA)

20 The Lord has dealt with me according to my righteousness;(MB)
    according to the cleanness of my hands(MC) he has rewarded me.(MD)
21 For I have kept the ways of the Lord;(ME)
    I am not guilty of turning(MF) from my God.
22 All his laws are before me;(MG)
    I have not turned away from his decrees.
23 I have been blameless(MH) before him
    and have kept myself from sin.
24 The Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness,(MI)
    according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.

25 To the faithful(MJ) you show yourself faithful,(MK)
    to the blameless you show yourself blameless,
26 to the pure(ML) you show yourself pure,
    but to the devious you show yourself shrewd.(MM)
27 You save the humble(MN)
    but bring low those whose eyes are haughty.(MO)
28 You, Lord, keep my lamp(MP) burning;
    my God turns my darkness into light.(MQ)
29 With your help(MR) I can advance against a troop[ae];
    with my God I can scale a wall.

30 As for God, his way is perfect:(MS)
    The Lord’s word is flawless;(MT)
    he shields(MU) all who take refuge(MV) in him.
31 For who is God besides the Lord?(MW)
    And who is the Rock(MX) except our God?
32 It is God who arms me with strength(MY)
    and keeps my way secure.(MZ)
33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer;(NA)
    he causes me to stand on the heights.(NB)
34 He trains my hands for battle;(NC)
    my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
35 You make your saving help my shield,
    and your right hand sustains(ND) me;
    your help has made me great.
36 You provide a broad path(NE) for my feet,
    so that my ankles do not give way.(NF)

37 I pursued my enemies(NG) and overtook them;
    I did not turn back till they were destroyed.
38 I crushed them(NH) so that they could not rise;(NI)
    they fell beneath my feet.(NJ)
39 You armed me with strength(NK) for battle;
    you humbled my adversaries(NL) before me.
40 You made my enemies turn their backs(NM) in flight,
    and I destroyed(NN) my foes.
41 They cried for help, but there was no one to save them(NO)
    to the Lord, but he did not answer.(NP)
42 I beat them as fine as windblown dust;(NQ)
    I trampled them[af] like mud in the streets.
43 You have delivered me from the attacks of the people;
    you have made me the head of nations.(NR)
People I did not know(NS) now serve me,
44     foreigners(NT) cower before me;
    as soon as they hear of me, they obey me.
45 They all lose heart;(NU)
    they come trembling(NV) from their strongholds.(NW)

46 The Lord lives!(NX) Praise be to my Rock!(NY)
    Exalted be God(NZ) my Savior!(OA)
47 He is the God who avenges(OB) me,
    who subdues nations(OC) under me,
48     who saves(OD) me from my enemies.(OE)
You exalted me above my foes;
    from a violent man(OF) you rescued me.
49 Therefore I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;(OG)
    I will sing(OH) the praises of your name.(OI)

50 He gives his king great victories;
    he shows unfailing love to his anointed,(OJ)
    to David(OK) and to his descendants forever.(OL)

Psalm 19[ag]

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

The heavens(OM) declare(ON) the glory of God;(OO)
    the skies(OP) proclaim the work of his hands.(OQ)
Day after day they pour forth speech;

They have no speech, they use no words;
    no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice[ah] goes out into all the earth,
    their words to the ends of the world.(OS)
In the heavens God has pitched a tent(OT) for the sun.(OU)
    It is like a bridegroom(OV) coming out of his chamber,(OW)
    like a champion(OX) rejoicing to run his course.
It rises at one end of the heavens(OY)
    and makes its circuit to the other;(OZ)
    nothing is deprived of its warmth.

The law of the Lord(PA) is perfect,(PB)

    giving light to the eyes.(PH)
The fear of the Lord(PI) is pure,
    enduring forever.
The decrees of the Lord are firm,
    and all of them are righteous.(PJ)

10 They are more precious than gold,(PK)
    than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,(PL)
    than honey from the honeycomb.(PM)
11 By them your servant is warned;
    in keeping them there is great reward.
12 But who can discern their own errors?
    Forgive my hidden faults.(PN)
13 Keep your servant also from willful sins;(PO)
    may they not rule over me.(PP)
Then I will be blameless,(PQ)
    innocent of great transgression.

14 May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
    be pleasing(PR) in your sight,
    Lord, my Rock(PS) and my Redeemer.(PT)

Now this I know:
    The Lord gives victory to his anointed.(QI)
He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary
    with the victorious power of his right hand.(QJ)
Some trust in chariots(QK) and some in horses,(QL)
    but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.(QM)
They are brought to their knees and fall,(QN)

Lord, give victory to the king!
    Answer us(QQ) when we call!

The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath,
    and his fire will consume them.(RG)
10 You will destroy their descendants from the earth,
    their posterity from mankind.(RH)
11 Though they plot evil(RI) against you
    and devise wicked schemes,(RJ) they cannot succeed.
12 You will make them turn their backs(RK)
    when you aim at them with drawn bow.

13 Be exalted(RL) in your strength, Lord;(RM)
    we will sing and praise your might.

In you our ancestors put their trust;
    they trusted and you delivered them.(RU)

But I am a worm(RY) and not a man,
    scorned by everyone,(RZ) despised(SA) by the people.
All who see me mock me;(SB)
    they hurl insults,(SC) shaking their heads.(SD)
“He trusts in the Lord,” they say,
    “let the Lord rescue him.(SE)
Let him deliver him,(SF)
    since he delights(SG) in him.”

Yet you brought me out of the womb;(SH)
    you made me trust(SI) in you, even at my mother’s breast.
10 From birth(SJ) I was cast on you;
    from my mother’s womb you have been my God.

11 Do not be far from me,(SK)
    for trouble is near(SL)
    and there is no one to help.(SM)

12 Many bulls(SN) surround me;(SO)
    strong bulls of Bashan(SP) encircle me.
13 Roaring lions(SQ) that tear their prey(SR)
    open their mouths wide(SS) against me.
14 I am poured out like water,
    and all my bones are out of joint.(ST)
My heart has turned to wax;(SU)
    it has melted(SV) within me.
15 My mouth[ap] is dried up like a potsherd,(SW)
    and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth;(SX)
    you lay me in the dust(SY) of death.

16 Dogs(SZ) surround me,
    a pack of villains encircles me;
    they pierce[aq](TA) my hands and my feet.
17 All my bones are on display;
    people stare(TB) and gloat over me.(TC)
18 They divide my clothes among them
    and cast lots(TD) for my garment.(TE)

19 But you, Lord, do not be far from me.(TF)
