130 Out of the (A)depths I have cried to You, Lord.
2 Lord, (B)hear my voice!
Let (C)Your ears be attentive
To the (D)sound of my pleadings.
3 If You, [a]Lord, were to keep account of guilty deeds,
Lord, who could (E)stand?
4 But there is (F)forgiveness with You,
So that You may be [b](G)revered.
5 I wait for the Lord, my (H)soul waits,
And I [c]wait (I)for His word.
6 My soul waits in hope for the Lord
More than the watchmen (J)for the morning;
Yes, more than the watchmen for the morning.
7 Israel, (K)wait for the Lord;
For with the Lord there is (L)mercy,
And with Him is (M)abundant redemption.
8 And He will (N)redeem Israel
From all his guilty deeds.

131 Lord, my heart is not (O)proud, nor my eyes (P)arrogant;
Nor do I [d]involve myself in (Q)great matters,
Or in things (R)too [e]difficult for me.
2 I have certainly (S)soothed and quieted my soul;
Like a weaned (T)child resting [f]against his mother,
My soul [g]within me is like a weaned child.
3 Israel, (U)wait for the Lord
(V)From this time on and forever.

132 Remember, Lord, in David’s behalf,
All (W)his affliction;
2 How he swore to the Lord
And vowed to (X)the Mighty One of Jacob,
3 “I certainly will not [h]enter (Y)my house,
Nor [i]lie on my bed;
4 I will not (Z)give sleep to my eyes
Or slumber to my eyelids,
5 Until I find a (AA)place for the Lord,
[j]A dwelling place for (AB)the Mighty One of Jacob.”
6 Behold, we heard about it in (AC)Ephrathah,
We found it in the (AD)field of [k]Jaar.
7 Let’s go into His [l](AE)dwelling place;
Let’s (AF)worship at His (AG)footstool.
8 (AH)Arise, Lord, to Your (AI)resting place,
You and the ark of Your (AJ)strength.
9 May Your priests be (AK)clothed with righteousness,
And may Your (AL)godly ones sing for joy.
10 For the sake of Your servant David,
Do not turn away the face of Your (AM)anointed.
11 The Lord has (AN)sworn to David
A truth from which He will not turn back:
“I will set upon your throne one (AO)from the fruit of your body.
12 If your sons will keep My covenant
And My testimony which I will teach them,
Their sons also will (AP)sit upon your throne forever.”
13 For the Lord has (AQ)chosen Zion;
He has (AR)desired it as His dwelling place.
14 “This is My (AS)resting place forever;
Here I will (AT)dwell, for I have desired it.
15 I will abundantly (AU)bless her food;
I will (AV)satisfy her needy with bread.
16 I will also clothe her (AW)priests with salvation,
And her (AX)godly ones will sing aloud for joy.
17 I will make the (AY)horn of David spring forth there;
I have prepared a (AZ)lamp for My anointed.
18 I will (BA)clothe his enemies with shame,
But upon himself his (BB)crown will gleam.”

133 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For (BC)brothers to live together in unity!
2 It is like the precious (BD)oil on the head,
Running down upon the beard,
As on Aaron’s beard,
The oil which ran down upon the (BE)edge of his robes.
3 It is like the (BF)dew of (BG)Hermon
Coming down upon the (BH)mountains of Zion;
For the Lord (BI)commanded the blessing there—(BJ)life forever.

And bless the Lord.

He who (BR)made heaven and earth.

135 [n](BS)Praise [o]the Lord!
Praise the name of the Lord;
Praise Him, you (BT)servants of the Lord,
2 You who stand in the house of the Lord,
In the (BU)courtyards of the house of our God!
3 [p]Praise [q]the Lord, for (BV)the Lord is good;
(BW)Sing praises to His name, (BX)for it is lovely.
4 For [r]the Lord has (BY)chosen Jacob for Himself,
Israel as His (BZ)own possession.
5 For I know that (CA)the Lord is great
And that our Lord is (CB)above all gods.
6 (CC)Whatever the Lord pleases, He does,
In heaven and on earth, in the seas and in all the ocean depths.
7 [s]He (CD)causes the [t]mist to ascend from the ends of the earth,
[u]He (CE)makes lightning for the rain;
[v]He (CF)brings forth the wind from His treasuries.
8 [w]He (CG)struck the firstborn of Egypt,
[x]Both human firstborn and animal.
9 [y]He sent (CH)signs and wonders into your midst, Egypt,
Upon (CI)Pharaoh and all his servants.
10 [z](CJ)He (CK)struck many nations
And brought death to mighty kings,
11 (CL)Sihon, king of the Amorites,
(CM)Og, king of Bashan,
And (CN)all the kingdoms of Canaan;
12 And He (CO)gave their land as an inheritance,
An inheritance to His people Israel.
13 Your (CP)name, Lord, is everlasting,
The mention of You, Lord, is [aa]throughout all generations.
14 For the Lord will (CQ)judge His people
And (CR)will have compassion on His servants.
15 The (CS)idols of the nations are nothing but silver and gold,
The work of human hands.
16 They have mouths, but they do not speak;
They have eyes, but they do not see;
17 They have ears, but they do not hear,
Nor is there any breath at all in their mouths.
18 Those who make them will become like them,
Yes, everyone who trusts in them.
19 House of (CT)Israel, bless the Lord;
House of Aaron, bless the Lord;
20 House of Levi, bless the Lord;
You (CU)who [ab]revere the Lord, bless the Lord.
21 Blessed be the Lord (CV)from Zion,

26 Give thanks to the (EA)God of heaven,
For His faithfulness is everlasting.
An Experience of the Captivity.
137 By the (EB)rivers of Babylon,
There we sat down and (EC)wept,
When we remembered Zion.
2 Upon the [ao](ED)willows in the midst of it
We (EE)hung our [ap]harps.
3 For there our captors [aq](EF)demanded of us [ar]songs,
And (EG)our tormentors, jubilation, saying,
“Sing for us one of the songs of Zion!”
4 How can we sing (EH)the Lord’s song
In a foreign land?
5 If I (EI)forget you, Jerusalem,
May my right hand [as]forget its skill.
6 May my (EJ)tongue cling to the roof of my mouth
If I do not remember you,
If I do not [at](EK)exalt Jerusalem
Above my chief joy.
7 Remember, Lord, against the sons of (EL)Edom
The day of Jerusalem,
Those who said, “Lay it bare, lay it bare
(EM)To its foundation!”
8 Daughter of Babylon, you [au](EN)devastated one,
Blessed will be one who (EO)repays you
With [av]the retribution with which you have repaid us.
9 Blessed will be one who seizes and (EP)dashes your children
Against the rock.

138 (EQ)I will give You thanks with all my heart;
I will sing Your praises before the (ER)gods.
2 I will bow down (ES)toward Your holy temple
And (ET)give thanks to Your name for Your mercy and Your [aw]truth;
For You have (EU)made Your [ax]word great [ay]according to all Your name.
3 On the day I (EV)called, You answered me;
You made me bold with (EW)strength in my soul.
4 (EX)All the kings of the earth will give thanks to You, Lord,
When they have heard the words of Your mouth.
5 And they will (EY)sing of the ways of the Lord,
For (EZ)great is the glory of the Lord.
6 For (FA)the Lord is exalted,
Yet He (FB)looks after the lowly,
But He knows the (FC)haughty from afar.
7 Though I (FD)walk in the midst of trouble, You will [az](FE)revive me;
You will (FF)reach out with Your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
And Your right hand will (FG)save me.
8 The Lord will (FH)accomplish what concerns me;
Your (FI)faithfulness, Lord, is everlasting;

139 Lord, You have (FL)searched me and known me.
2 You (FM)know [ba]when I sit down and [bb]when I get up;
You (FN)understand my thought from far away.
3 You [bc](FO)scrutinize my [bd]path and my lying down,
And are acquainted with all my ways.
4 [be]Even before there is a word on my tongue,
Behold, Lord, You (FP)know it all.
5 You have (FQ)encircled me behind and in front,
And (FR)placed Your hand upon me.
6 Such (FS)knowledge is (FT)too wonderful for me;
It is too high, I cannot comprehend it.
7 (FU)Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
8 (FV)If I ascend to heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in [bf]Sheol, behold, (FW)You are there.
9 If I take up the wings of the dawn,
If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,
10 Even there Your hand will (FX)lead me,
And Your right hand will take hold of me.
11 If I say, “Surely the (FY)darkness will [bg]overwhelm me,
And the light around me will be night,”
12 Even (FZ)darkness is not dark [bh]to You,
And the night is as bright as the day.

13 For You (GB)created my innermost parts;

And my soul knows it very well.

When I was made in secret,

When as yet there was not one of them.

How vast is the sum of them!

When (GL)I awake, I am still with You.
19 If only You would (GM)put the wicked to death, God;

They have become my enemies.

1 Out of the depths(A) I cry to you,(B) Lord;
2 Lord, hear my voice.(C)
Let your ears be attentive(D)
to my cry for mercy.(E)
3 If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,
Lord, who could stand?(F)
4 But with you there is forgiveness,(G)
so that we can, with reverence, serve you.(H)
5 I wait for the Lord,(I) my whole being waits,(J)
and in his word(K) I put my hope.

do not reject your anointed one.
11 The Lord swore an oath to David,(AM)
a sure oath he will not revoke:

I will place on your throne.

and the statutes I teach them,
then their sons will sit
on your throne(AP) for ever and ever.”
13 For the Lord has chosen Zion,(AQ)
he has desired it for his dwelling,(AR) saying,
14 “This is my resting place for ever and ever;(AS)
here I will sit enthroned,(AT) for I have desired it.
15 I will bless her with abundant provisions;
her poor I will satisfy with food.(AU)
16 I will clothe her priests(AV) with salvation,
and her faithful people will ever sing for joy.(AW)
17 “Here I will make a horn[b] grow(AX) for David
and set up a lamp(AY) for my anointed one.(AZ)

2 It is like precious oil poured on the head,(BE)
running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron’s beard,
down on the collar of his robe.
3 It is as if the dew(BF) of Hermon(BG)
were falling on Mount Zion.(BH)
For there the Lord bestows his blessing,(BI)
even life forevermore.(BJ)

Psalm 137

when we remembered Zion.(EP)

we hung our harps,(ER)
3 for there our captors(ES) asked us for songs,
our tormentors demanded(ET) songs of joy;
they said, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”(EU)
4 How can we sing the songs of the Lord(EV)
while in a foreign land?
5 If I forget you,(EW) Jerusalem,
may my right hand forget its skill.
6 May my tongue cling to the roof(EX) of my mouth
if I do not remember(EY) you,
if I do not consider Jerusalem(EZ)
my highest joy.
7 Remember, Lord, what the Edomites(FA) did
on the day Jerusalem fell.(FB)
“Tear it down,” they cried,
“tear it down to its foundations!”(FC)
8 Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction,(FD)
happy is the one who repays you
according to what you have done to us.
9 Happy is the one who seizes your infants
and dashes them(FE) against the rocks.
Psalm 138
Of David.
1 I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart;
before the “gods”(FF) I will sing(FG) your praise.
2 I will bow down toward your holy temple(FH)
and will praise your name(FI)
for your unfailing love and your faithfulness,(FJ)
for you have so exalted your solemn decree
that it surpasses your fame.(FK)
3 When I called,(FL) you answered me;(FM)
you greatly emboldened(FN) me.
4 May all the kings of the earth(FO) praise you, Lord,
when they hear what you have decreed.
5 May they sing(FP) of the ways of the Lord,
for the glory of the Lord(FQ) is great.

1 You have searched me,(GD) Lord,
and you know(GE) me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;(GF)
you perceive my thoughts(GG) from afar.
3 You discern my going out(GH) and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.(GI)
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.(GJ)
5 You hem me in(GK) behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,(GL)
too lofty(GM) for me to attain.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee(GN) from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens,(GO) you are there;
if I make my bed(GP) in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,(GQ)
your right hand(GR) will hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark(GS) to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
13 For you created my inmost being;(GT)
you knit me together(GU) in my mother’s womb.(GV)
14 I praise you(GW) because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,(GX)
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made(GY) in the secret place,
when I was woven together(GZ) in the depths of the earth.(HA)
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained(HB) for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts,[e](HC) God!(HD)
How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them,(HE)
they would outnumber the grains of sand(HF)—
when I awake,(HG) I am still with you.
19 If only you, God, would slay the wicked!(HH)
Away from me,(HI) you who are bloodthirsty!(HJ)
20 They speak of you with evil intent;
your adversaries(HK) misuse your name.(HL)
21 Do I not hate those(HM) who hate you, Lord,
and abhor(HN) those who are in rebellion against you?
22 I have nothing but hatred for them;
I count them my enemies.(HO)
23 Search me,(HP) God, and know my heart;(HQ)
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way(HR) in me,
and lead me(HS) in the way everlasting.
