Vengeance Invoked upon Adversaries.

For the music director. A Psalm of David.

109 (A)God of my praise,
(B)Do not be silent!
For they have opened a [a]wicked and (C)deceitful mouth against me;
They have spoken [b]against me with a (D)lying tongue.
They have also surrounded me with words of hatred,
And have fought against me (E)without cause.
In return (F)for my love they act as my accusers;
But (G)I am in prayer.
So they have [c](H)repaid me evil for good,
And (I)hatred for my love.

Appoint a wicked person over him,
And may an [d](J)accuser stand at his right hand.
When he is judged, may he (K)come out guilty,
And may his (L)prayer become sin.
May (M)his days be few;
May (N)another take his office.
May his (O)children be fatherless,
And his (P)wife a widow.
10 May his (Q)children wander about and beg;
And may they (R)seek sustenance [e]far from their ruined homes.
11 May (S)the creditor [f]seize everything that he has,
And may (T)strangers plunder the product of his labor.
12 May there be none to [g](U)extend kindness to him,
Nor (V)any to be gracious to his fatherless children.
13 May his (W)descendants be [h]eliminated;
May their (X)name be wiped out in a following generation.

14 May (Y)the guilt of his fathers be remembered [i]before the Lord,
And do not let the sin of his mother be (Z)wiped out.
15 May (AA)they be before the Lord continually,
So that He may (AB)eliminate their memory from the earth;
16 Because he did not remember to show mercy,
But persecuted the (AC)afflicted and needy person,
And the (AD)despondent in heart, to (AE)put them to death.
17 He also loved cursing, so (AF)it came to him;
And he did not delight in blessing, so it was far from him.
18 But he (AG)clothed himself with cursing as with his garment,
And it (AH)entered [j]his body like water,
And like oil into his bones.
19 May it be to him as (AI)a garment with which he covers himself,
And as a belt which he constantly (AJ)wears around himself.
20 May this be the (AK)reward of my accusers from the Lord,
And of those who (AL)speak evil against my soul.

21 But You, [k]God, the Lord, deal kindly with me (AM)for the sake of Your name;
Because (AN)Your mercy is good, rescue me;
22 For (AO)I am afflicted and needy,
And [l]my heart is (AP)wounded within me.
23 I am passing (AQ)like a shadow when it lengthens;
I am shaken off (AR)like the locust.
24 My (AS)knees [m]are weak from (AT)fasting,
And my flesh has grown lean, without fatness.
25 I also have become a (AU)disgrace to them;
When they see me, they (AV)shake their head.

26 (AW)Help me, Lord my God;
Save me according to Your mercy.
27 [n]And may they (AX)know that this is Your hand;
You, Lord, have done it.
28 (AY)They will curse, but You bless;
When they arise, they will be ashamed,
But Your (AZ)servant will be glad.
29 [o]May (BA)my accusers be clothed with dishonor,
And [p]may they (BB)cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe.

30 With my mouth I will give thanks abundantly to the Lord;
And (BC)I will praise Him in the midst of many.
31 For He stands (BD)at the right hand of the needy,
To save him from those who (BE)judge his soul.

The Lord Gives Dominion to the King.

A Psalm of David.

110 (BF)The Lord says to my Lord:
(BG)Sit at My right hand
Until I make (BH)Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”
The Lord will stretch out Your strong (BI)scepter from Zion, saying,
(BJ)Rule in the midst of Your enemies.”
Your (BK)people [q]will volunteer freely on the day of Your [r]power;
(BL)In [s]holy splendor, from the womb of the dawn,
[t]Your youth are to You as the (BM)dew.

(BN)The Lord has sworn and will (BO)not [u]change His mind,
“You are a (BP)priest forever
According to the order of Melchizedek.”
The Lord is (BQ)at Your right hand;
He [v]will (BR)shatter kings in the (BS)day of His wrath.
He will (BT)judge among the nations,
He [w]will fill them with (BU)corpses,
He [x]will (BV)shatter the [y]chief men over a broad country.
He will (BW)drink from the brook by the wayside;
Therefore He will (BX)lift up His head.

The Lord Praised for His Goodness.

111 [z]Praise [aa]the Lord!
I (BY)will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart,
In the (BZ)company of the upright and in the assembly.
(CA)Great are the works of the Lord;
They are [ab](CB)studied by all who delight in them.
[ac](CC)Splendid and majestic is His work,
And (CD)His righteousness endures forever.
He has caused His [ad]wonders [ae]to be remembered;
The Lord is (CE)gracious and compassionate.
He has (CF)given [af]food to those who [ag]fear Him;
He will (CG)remember His covenant forever.
He has made known to His people the power of His works,
In giving them the inheritance of the nations.

The works of His hands are [ah](CH)truth and justice;
All His precepts (CI)are trustworthy.
They are (CJ)upheld forever and ever;
They are performed in [ai](CK)truth and uprightness.
He has sent (CL)redemption to His people;
He has [aj]ordained His covenant forever;
(CM)Holy and [ak]awesome is His name.
10 The [al](CN)fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
All those who [am]follow (CO)His commandments have a good understanding;
His (CP)praise endures forever.

Prosperity of One Who Fears the Lord.

112 [an]Praise [ao]the Lord!
(CQ)Blessed is a person who [ap]fears the Lord,
Who greatly (CR)delights in His commandments.
His [aq](CS)descendants will be mighty [ar]on the earth;
The generation of the (CT)upright will be blessed.
(CU)Wealth and riches are in his house,
And his righteousness endures forever.
Light shines in the darkness (CV)for the upright;
He is (CW)gracious, compassionate, and righteous.
It goes well for a person who (CX)is gracious and lends;
He will [as]maintain his cause in judgment.
For he will (CY)never be shaken;
The (CZ)righteous will be [at]remembered forever.

He will not fear (DA)bad news;
His (DB)heart is steadfast, (DC)trusting in the Lord.
His (DD)heart is firm, he (DE)will not fear,
[au]But will (DF)look with satisfaction on his enemies.
[av]He (DG)has given freely to the poor,
His righteousness endures forever;
His (DH)horn will be exalted in honor.

10 The (DI)wicked will see it and be [aw]vexed,
He will (DJ)gnash his teeth and (DK)melt away;
The (DL)desire of the wicked will perish.

The Lord Exalts the Humble.

113 [ax]Praise [ay]the Lord!
(DM)Praise Him, you (DN)servants of the Lord,
Praise the name of the Lord.
(DO)Blessed be the name of the Lord
From this time on and forever.
(DP)From [az]the rising of the sun to its setting,
The (DQ)name of the Lord is to be praised.
The Lord is (DR)high above all nations;
His (DS)glory is above the heavens.

(DT)Who is like the Lord our God,
Who (DU)is enthroned on high,
Who (DV)looks far down to
The heavens and the earth?
He (DW)raises the poor from the dust,
He lifts the needy from the garbage heap,
To (DX)seat them with noblemen,
With the noblemen of His people.
He (DY)has the infertile woman live in the house
As a joyful mother of children.
[ba]Praise [bb]the Lord!

God’s Rescue of Israel from Egypt.

114 When Israel went forth (DZ)from Egypt,
The house of Jacob from a people of a (EA)foreign language,
Judah became (EB)His sanctuary;
Israel, (EC)His dominion.

The (ED)sea looked and fled;
The (EE)Jordan turned back.
The mountains (EF)skipped like rams,
The hills, like lambs.
What (EG)ails you, sea, that you flee?
Jordan, that you turn back?
Mountains, that you skip like rams?
Hills, like lambs?

(EH)Tremble, earth, before the Lord,
Before the God of Jacob,
Who (EI)turned the rock into a (EJ)pool of water,
The (EK)flint into a fountain of water.

Heathen Idols Contrasted with the Lord.

115 (EL)Not to us, Lord, not to us,
But (EM)to Your name give glory,
Because of Your mercy, because of Your [bc]truth.
(EN)Why should the nations say,
(EO)Where, then, is their God?”
But our (EP)God is in the heavens;
He (EQ)does whatever He pleases.
Their (ER)idols are silver and gold,
The (ES)work of human hands.
They have mouths, but they (ET)cannot speak;
They have eyes, but they cannot see;
They have ears, but they cannot hear;
They have noses, but they cannot smell;
[bd]They have hands, but they cannot feel;
[be]They have feet, but they cannot walk;
They cannot make a sound with their throat.
(EU)Those who make them [bf]will become like them,
Everyone who trusts in them.

(EV)Israel, (EW)trust in the Lord;
He is their (EX)help and their shield.
10 House of (EY)Aaron, trust in the Lord;
He is their help and their shield.
11 You who [bg](EZ)fear the Lord, trust in the Lord;
He is their help and their shield.
12 The Lord (FA)has been mindful of us; He will bless us.
He will bless the house of Israel;
He will bless the house of Aaron.
13 He will (FB)bless those who [bh]fear the Lord,
(FC)The small together with the great.
14 May the Lord (FD)increase you,
You and your children.
15 May you be blessed of the Lord,
(FE)Maker of heaven and earth.

16 The heavens are (FF)the heavens of the Lord,
But (FG)the earth He has given to the sons of mankind.
17 The (FH)dead do not praise [bi]the Lord,
Nor do any who go down into (FI)silence;
18 But as for us, we will (FJ)bless [bj]the Lord
From this time and forever.
[bk]Praise [bl]the Lord!

Thanksgiving for Rescue from Death.

116 (FK)I love the Lord, because He (FL)hears
My voice and my pleas.
Because He has (FM)inclined His ear to me,
Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.
The (FN)snares of death encompassed me
And the [bm]terrors of [bn]Sheol [bo]came upon me;
I found distress and sorrow.
Then (FO)I called upon the name of the Lord:
“Please, Lord, (FP)save my [bp]life!”

(FQ)Gracious is the Lord, and (FR)righteous;
Yes, our God is (FS)compassionate.
The Lord watches over (FT)the simple;
I was (FU)brought low, and He saved me.
Return to your (FV)rest, my soul,
For the Lord has (FW)dealt generously with you.
For You have (FX)rescued my soul from death,
My eyes from tears,
And my feet from stumbling.
I shall walk before the Lord
In the [bq](FY)land of the living.
10 I (FZ)believed when I said,
“I am (GA)greatly afflicted.”
11 I (GB)said in my alarm,
(GC)All people are liars.”

12 What shall I (GD)repay to the Lord
For all His (GE)benefits [br]to me?
13 I will lift up the (GF)cup of salvation,
And (GG)call upon the name of the Lord.
14 I will (GH)pay my vows to the Lord;
May it be (GI)in the presence of all His people!
15 (GJ)Precious in the sight of the Lord
Is the death of His godly ones.
16 O Lord, [bs]I surely am (GK)Your slave,
I am Your slave, the (GL)son of Your female slave,
You have (GM)unfastened my restraints.
17 I will offer You (GN)a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
And (GO)call upon the name of the Lord.
18 I will (GP)pay my vows to the Lord,
May it be in the presence of all His people,
19 In the (GQ)courtyards of the Lords house,
In the midst of you, (GR)Jerusalem!
[bt]Praise [bu]the Lord!

A Psalm of Praise.

117 (GS)Praise the Lord, all nations;
Sing His praises, all peoples!
For His (GT)mercy toward us is [bv]great,
And the [bw](GU)truth of the Lord is everlasting.
[bx]Praise [by]the Lord!
