All People Exhorted to Praise God.

A Psalm for [a]Thanksgiving.

100 (A)Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.
(B)Serve the Lord with jubilation;
(C)Come before Him with rejoicing.
Know that (D)the Lord [b]Himself is God;
It is He who has (E)made us, and [c]not we ourselves;
We are (F)His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Enter His gates (G)with [d]thanksgiving,
And His courtyards with praise.
Give thanks to Him, (H)bless His name.
For (I)the Lord is good;
(J)His mercy is everlasting
And His (K)faithfulness is to all generations.

The Psalmist’s Profession of Uprightness.

A Psalm of David.

101 I will (L)sing of mercy and [e]justice;
To You, Lord, I will sing praises.
I will (M)carefully attend to the [f]blameless way.
When will You come to me?
I will walk within my house in the [g](N)integrity of my heart.
I will set no (O)worthless thing before my eyes;
I hate the [h]work of those who (P)fall away;
It shall not cling to me.
A (Q)perverse heart shall leave me;
I will know no evil.
Whoever secretly (R)slanders his neighbor, him I will [i]destroy;
I will not endure one who has a (S)haughty look and an arrogant heart.

My eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me;
One who walks in a [j](T)blameless way is one who will serve me.
One who (U)practices deceit shall not dwell within my house;
One who speaks lies (V)shall not [k]maintain his position before me.
(W)Every morning I will [l](X)destroy all the wicked of the land,
So as to (Y)eliminate from the (Z)city of the Lord all those who do injustice.

Prayer of an Afflicted Man for Mercy on Himself and on Zion.

A Prayer of the afflicted when he is weak and [m]pours out his complaint before the Lord.

102 (AA)Hear my prayer, Lord!
And let my cry for help (AB)come to You.
(AC)Do not hide Your face from me on the day of my distress;
(AD)Incline Your ear to me;
On the day when I call (AE)answer me quickly.
For my days (AF)have ended in smoke,
And my (AG)bones have been scorched like a hearth.
My heart (AH)has been struck like [n]grass and has (AI)withered,
Indeed, I (AJ)forget to eat my bread.
Because of the [o]loudness of my groaning
My (AK)bones [p]cling to my flesh.
I resemble a (AL)pelican of the wilderness;
I have become like an owl of the ruins.
I (AM)lie awake,
I have become like a solitary bird on a housetop.

My enemies (AN)have taunted me all day long;
Those who [q](AO)deride me [r]have used my name as a (AP)curse.
For I have eaten ashes like bread,
And (AQ)mixed my drink with weeping
10 (AR)Because of Your indignation and Your wrath;
For You have (AS)lifted me up and thrown me away.
11 My days are like a [s](AT)lengthened shadow,
And [t]I (AU)wither away like [u]grass.

12 But You, Lord, [v](AV)remain forever,
And Your [w](AW)name remains to all generations.
13 You will (AX)arise and have (AY)compassion on Zion;
For (AZ)it is time to be gracious to her,
For the (BA)appointed time has come.
14 Surely Your servants [x]take pleasure in her stones,
And feel pity for her dust.
15 [y]So the [z](BB)nations will fear the name of the Lord,
And (BC)all the kings of the earth, Your glory.
16 For the Lord has (BD)built up Zion;
He has (BE)appeared in His glory.
17 He has (BF)turned His attention to the prayer of the [aa]destitute
And has not despised their prayer.

18 [ab]This will be (BG)written for the (BH)generation to come,
[ac]That (BI)a people yet to be created [ad]may praise [ae]the Lord:
19 For He (BJ)looked down from His holy height;
(BK)From heaven the Lord looked [af]upon the earth,
20 To hear the (BL)groaning of the prisoner,
To (BM)set free [ag]those who were doomed to death,
21 So that people may (BN)tell of the name of the Lord in Zion,
And His praise in Jerusalem,
22 When (BO)the peoples are gathered together,
And the kingdoms, to serve the Lord.

23 He has broken my strength in the way;
He has (BP)shortened my days.
24 I say, “My God, (BQ)do not take me away in the middle of my days,
Your (BR)years are [ah]throughout all generations.
25 In time of old You (BS)founded the earth,
And the (BT)heavens are the work of Your hands.
26 [ai]Even they will (BU)perish, but You endure;
All of them will wear out like a garment;
Like clothing You will change them and they will pass away.
27 But You are [aj](BV)the same,
And Your years will not come to an end.
28 The (BW)children of Your servants will continue,
And their [ak](BX)descendants will be established before You.”

Praise for the Lords Mercies.

A Psalm of David.

103 (BY)Bless the Lord, my soul,
And all that is within me, bless His (BZ)holy name.
Bless the Lord, my soul,
And (CA)do not forget any of His benefits;
Who (CB)pardons all your guilt,
Who (CC)heals all your diseases;
Who (CD)redeems your life from the pit,
Who (CE)crowns you with favor and compassion;
Who (CF)satisfies your [al]years with good things,
So that your youth is (CG)renewed like the eagle.

The Lord (CH)performs [am]righteous deeds
And judgments for all who are (CI)oppressed.
He (CJ)made known His ways to Moses,
His (CK)deeds to the sons of Israel.
The Lord is (CL)compassionate and gracious,
(CM)Slow to anger and abounding in mercy.
He (CN)will not always contend with us,
Nor will He (CO)keep His anger forever.
10 He has (CP)not dealt with us according to our sins,
Nor rewarded us according to our guilty deeds.
11 For as high (CQ)as the heavens are above the earth,
So great is His mercy toward those who [an]fear Him.
12 As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He (CR)removed our wrongdoings from us.
13 Just (CS)as a father has compassion on his children,
So the Lord has compassion on those who [ao]fear Him.
14 For (CT)He Himself knows [ap]our form;
He (CU)is mindful that we are nothing but (CV)dust.

15 As for man, his days are (CW)like grass;
Like a (CX)flower of the field, so he flourishes.
16 When the (CY)wind has passed over it, it is no more,
And its (CZ)place no longer knows about it.
17 But the [aq](DA)mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting for those who [ar]fear Him,
And His justice (DB)to the children’s children,
18 To (DC)those who keep His covenant
And remember His precepts, so as to do them.

19 The Lord has established His (DD)throne in the heavens,
And His [as](DE)sovereignty rules over [at]all.
20 Bless the Lord, you (DF)His angels,
(DG)Mighty in strength, who (DH)perform His word,
(DI)Obeying the voice of His word!
21 Bless the Lord, all you (DJ)His [au]angels,
You (DK)who serve Him, doing His will.
22 Bless the Lord, (DL)all you works of His,
In all places of His dominion;
Bless the Lord, my soul!

The Lords Care over All His Works.

104 (DM)Bless the Lord, my soul!
Lord my God, You are very great;
You are (DN)clothed with splendor and majesty,
Covering Yourself with (DO)light as with a cloak,
(DP)Stretching out heaven like a tent curtain.
[av]He (DQ)lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters;
[aw]He makes the (DR)clouds His chariot;
[ax]He walks on the (DS)wings of the wind;
[ay]He makes [az](DT)the winds His messengers,
[ba]Flaming (DU)fire His ministers.

He (DV)established the earth upon its foundations,
So that it will not [bb]totter forever and ever.
You (DW)covered it with the deep sea as with a garment;
The waters were standing above the mountains.
They fled from Your (DX)rebuke,
At the (DY)sound of Your thunder they hurried away.
The mountains rose; the valleys sank down
To the (DZ)place which You established for them.
You set a (EA)boundary so that they will not pass over,
So that they will not return to cover the earth.

10 [bc]He sends forth (EB)springs in the valleys;
They flow between the mountains;
11 They (EC)give drink to every animal of the field;
The (ED)wild donkeys quench their thirst.
12 The birds of the sky (EE)dwell [bd]beside them;
They [be]lift up their voices from among the branches.
13 [bf]He (EF)waters the mountains from His upper chambers;
(EG)The earth is satisfied with the fruit of His works.

14 [bg]He causes the (EH)grass to grow for the [bh]cattle,
And (EI)vegetation for the labor of mankind,
So that [bi]they may produce [bj]food (EJ)from the earth,
15 And (EK)wine, which makes a human heart cheerful,
(EL)So that he makes his face gleam with oil,
And [bk]food, which (EM)sustains a human heart.
16 The trees of the Lord [bl]drink their fill,
The cedars of Lebanon which He planted,
17 Where the (EN)birds build their nests,
And the (EO)stork, whose home is the juniper trees.

18 The high mountains are for the (EP)wild goats;
The (EQ)cliffs are a refuge for the (ER)rock hyrax.
19 He made the moon (ES)for the seasons;
The (ET)sun knows the place of its setting.
20 You (EU)appoint darkness and it becomes night,
In which all the (EV)animals of the forest [bm]prowl about.
21 The (EW)young lions roar for their prey
[bn]And (EX)seek their food from God.
22 When the sun rises they withdraw,
And they lie down in their (EY)dens.
23 A person goes out to (EZ)his work
And to his labor until evening.

24 Lord, how (FA)many are Your works!
[bo]In (FB)wisdom You have made them all;
The (FC)earth is full of Your [bp]possessions.
25 [bq]There is the (FD)sea, great and [br]broad,
In which are swarms without number,
Animals both small and great.
26 The (FE)ships move along there,
And [bs](FF)Leviathan, which You have formed to have fun in it.

27 They all (FG)wait for You
To (FH)give them their food in [bt]due season.
28 You give to them, they gather it up;
You (FI)open Your hand, they are satisfied with good.
29 You (FJ)hide Your face, they are terrified;
You (FK)take away their breath, they perish
And (FL)return to their dust.
30 You send forth Your [bu](FM)Spirit, they are created;
And You renew the face of the ground.

31 May the (FN)glory of the Lord endure forever;
May the Lord (FO)rejoice in His works;
32 [bv]He (FP)looks at the earth, and it (FQ)trembles;
He (FR)touches the mountains, and they smoke.
33 [bw]I will sing to the Lord [bx](FS)as long as I live;
[by]I will (FT)sing praise to my God [bz]while I have my being.
34 May my (FU)praise be pleasing to Him;
As for me, I shall (FV)rejoice in the Lord.
35 May sinners be (FW)removed from the earth
And may the (FX)wicked be no more.
(FY)Bless the Lord, my soul.
[ca](FZ)Praise [cb]the Lord!

The Lords Wonderful Works in Behalf of Israel.

105 (GA)Give thanks to the Lord, (GB)call upon His name;
(GC)Make His deeds known among the peoples.
Sing to Him, (GD)sing praises to Him;
[cc](GE)Tell of all His [cd]wonders.
Boast in His holy name;
May the (GF)heart of those who seek the Lord be joyful.
Seek the Lord and (GG)His strength;
(GH)Seek His face continually.
Remember His [ce](GI)wonders which He has done,
His marvels and the (GJ)judgments [cf]spoken by His mouth,
You [cg]descendants of (GK)Abraham, His servant,
You sons of (GL)Jacob, His (GM)chosen ones!
He is the Lord our God;
His (GN)judgments are in all the earth.

He has (GO)remembered His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded to a (GP)thousand generations,
The (GQ)covenant which He made with Abraham,
And His (GR)oath to Isaac.
10 Then He (GS)confirmed it to Jacob as a statute,
To Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11 Saying, “(GT)To you I will give the land of Canaan
As the [ch](GU)portion of your inheritance,”
12 When they were only a (GV)few people in number,
Very few, and (GW)strangers in it.
13 And they wandered from nation to nation,
From one kingdom to another people,
14 He (GX)allowed no one to oppress them,
And He [ci](GY)rebuked kings for their sakes, saying,
15 (GZ)Do not touch My anointed ones,
And do not harm My prophets.”

16 And He (HA)called for a famine upon the land;
He (HB)broke the whole staff of bread.
17 He (HC)sent a man before them,
Joseph, who was (HD)sold as a slave.
18 They forced his (HE)feet into shackles,
[cj]He was put in irons;
19 Until the time that his (HF)word came to pass,
The word of the Lord (HG)refined him.
20 The (HH)king sent and released him,
The ruler of peoples, and set him free.
21 He (HI)made him lord of his house,
And ruler over all his possessions,
22 To [ck]imprison his high officials [cl](HJ)at will,
That he might teach his elders wisdom.
23 (HK)Israel also came into Egypt;
So Jacob (HL)lived in the land of Ham.
24 And He (HM)made His people very fruitful,
And made them stronger than their enemies.

25 He (HN)turned their heart to hate His people,
To (HO)deal cunningly with His servants.
26 He (HP)sent His servant Moses,
And (HQ)Aaron, whom He had chosen.
27 They [cm](HR)performed His wondrous acts among them,
And miracles in the land of Ham.
28 He (HS)sent darkness and made it dark;
And they did not (HT)rebel against His words.
29 He (HU)turned their waters into blood,
And caused their fish to die.
30 Their land swarmed with (HV)frogs
Even in the (HW)chambers of their kings.
31 He spoke, and a (HX)swarm of flies
And (HY)gnats invaded all their territory.
32 He [cn]gave them (HZ)hail for rain,
And flaming fire in their land.
33 He also (IA)struck their vines and their fig trees,
And smashed the trees of their territory.
34 He spoke, and (IB)locusts came,
And creeping locusts, beyond number,
35 And they ate all the vegetation in their land,
And ate the fruit of their ground.
36 He also (IC)fatally struck all the firstborn in their land,
The (ID)first fruits of all their vigor.

37 Then He brought [co]the Israelites out with (IE)silver and gold,
And among His tribes there was not one who stumbled.
38 Egypt was (IF)glad when they departed,
For the (IG)dread of them had fallen upon [cp]the Egyptians.
39 He spread out a (IH)cloud as a [cq]covering,
And (II)fire to illumine by night.
40 [cr]They (IJ)asked, and He brought (IK)quail,
And satisfied them with the [cs](IL)bread of heaven.
41 He opened the [ct]rock and (IM)water flowed out;
[cu]It ran in the dry places like a river.
42 For He (IN)remembered His holy word
With His servant Abraham;
43 And He led out His people with joy,
His chosen ones with a joyful (IO)shout.
44 He also (IP)gave them the lands of the [cv]nations,
So that they (IQ)might take possession of the fruit of the peoples’ labor,
45 And that they might (IR)keep His statutes
And comply with His laws;
[cw]Praise [cx]the Lord!

Israel’s Rebelliousness and the Lords Help.

106 [cy]Praise [cz]the Lord!
Oh (IS)give thanks to the Lord, for He (IT)is good;
For (IU)His mercy is everlasting.
Who can speak of the (IV)mighty deeds of the Lord,
Or can proclaim all His praise?
How blessed are those who maintain [da]justice,
[db]Who (IW)practice righteousness at all times!

Remember me, Lord, in Your (IX)favor [dc]toward Your people.
Visit me with Your salvation,
So that I may see the (IY)prosperity of Your chosen ones,
That I may (IZ)rejoice in the joy of Your nation,
That I may (JA)boast with Your [dd]inheritance.

(JB)We have sinned [de](JC)like our fathers,
We have gone astray, we have behaved wickedly.
Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your [df]wonders;
They (JD)did not remember [dg]Your abundant kindnesses,
But (JE)rebelled by the sea, at the [dh]Red Sea.
Nevertheless He saved them (JF)for the sake of His name,
So that He might (JG)make His power known.
So He (JH)rebuked the [di]Red Sea and it (JI)dried up,
And He (JJ)led them through the mighty waters, as through the wilderness.
10 So He (JK)saved them from the [dj]hand of one who hated them,
And (JL)redeemed them from the [dk]hand of the enemy.
11 (JM)The waters covered their adversaries;
Not one of them was left.
12 Then they (JN)believed His words;
They (JO)sang His praise.

13 They quickly (JP)forgot His works;
They (JQ)did not wait for His plan,
14 But (JR)became lustfully greedy in the wilderness,
And (JS)put God to the test in the desert.
15 So He (JT)gave them their request,
But (JU)sent a [dl]wasting disease among them.

16 When they became (JV)envious of Moses in the camp,
And of Aaron, the holy one of the Lord,
17 The (JW)earth opened and swallowed up Dathan,
And engulfed the [dm]company of Abiram.
18 And a (JX)fire blazed up in their [dn]company;
The flame consumed the wicked.

19 They (JY)made a calf in Horeb,
And worshiped a cast metal image.
20 So they (JZ)exchanged their glory
For the image of an ox that eats grass.
21 They (KA)forgot God their Savior,
Who had done (KB)great things in Egypt,
22 [do](KC)Wonders in the land of Ham,
And awesome things by the [dp]Red Sea.
23 Therefore (KD)He said that He would destroy them,
If (KE)Moses, His chosen one, had not stood in the gap before Him,
To turn away His wrath from destroying them.
24 Then they (KF)rejected the (KG)pleasant land;
They (KH)did not believe His word,
25 But (KI)grumbled in their tents;
They did not listen to the voice of the Lord.
26 Therefore He [dq](KJ)swore to them
That He would have them fall in the wilderness,
27 And that He would (KK)bring down their [dr]descendants among the nations,
And (KL)scatter them in the lands.

28 They also (KM)followed [ds]Baal-peor,
And ate (KN)sacrifices offered to the dead.
29 So they (KO)provoked Him to anger with their deeds,
And a plague broke out among them.
30 Then Phinehas (KP)stood up and [dt]intervened,
And so the (KQ)plague was brought to a halt.
31 And it was (KR)credited to him as righteousness,
To all generations forever.

32 They also (KS)provoked Him to wrath at the waters of [du]Meribah,
So that it (KT)went badly for Moses on their account.
33 Because they (KU)were rebellious against [dv]His Spirit,
He spoke rashly with his lips.

34 They (KV)did not destroy the peoples,
As (KW)the Lord had commanded them,
35 But (KX)they got involved with the nations
And learned their [dw]practices,
36 And (KY)served their idols,
(KZ)Which became a snare to them.
37 They even (LA)sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the (LB)demons,
38 And shed (LC)innocent blood,
The blood of their (LD)sons and their daughters
Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan;
And the land was (LE)defiled with the blood.
39 So they became (LF)unclean in their [dx]practices,
And [dy](LG)were unfaithful in their deeds.

40 Therefore the (LH)anger of the Lord was kindled against His people,
And He (LI)loathed His [dz](LJ)inheritance.
41 So (LK)He handed them over to the [ea]nations,
And those who hated them ruled over them.
42 Their enemies also (LL)oppressed them,
And they were subdued under their [eb]power.
43 Many times He would (LM)rescue them;
They, however, were rebellious in their (LN)plan,
And they (LO)sank down into their guilt.

44 Nevertheless He looked at their distress
When He (LP)heard their cry;
45 And He (LQ)remembered His covenant for their sake,
And [ec](LR)relented (LS)according to the greatness of His mercy.
46 He also made them (LT)objects of compassion
In the presence of all their captors.

47 (LU)Save us, Lord our God,
And (LV)gather us from the nations,
To give thanks to Your holy name
And (LW)glory in Your praise.
48 (LX)Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
From everlasting to everlasting.
And all the people shall say, “Amen.”
[ed]Praise [ee]the Lord!

BOOK 5

The Lord Rescues People from Many Troubles.

107 (LY)Give thanks to the Lord, for (LZ)He is good,
For His mercy is everlasting.
(MA)The redeemed of the Lord shall say so,
Those whom He has (MB)redeemed from the hand of the enemy
And (MC)gathered from the lands,
From the east and from the west,
From the north and from the [ef]south.

They (MD)wandered in the wilderness in a [eg]desert region;
They did not find a way to [eh]an inhabited (ME)city.
They were hungry [ei]and thirsty;
Their (MF)souls felt weak within them.
Then they (MG)cried out to the Lord in their trouble;
He saved them from their distresses.
He also had them walk on a [ej](MH)straight way,
To go to [ek](MI)an inhabited city.
(MJ)They shall give thanks to the Lord for His mercy,
And for His [el]wonders to the sons of mankind!
For He has (MK)satisfied the [em]thirsty soul,
And He has filled the (ML)hungry soul with what is good.

10 There were those who (MM)lived in darkness and in [en]the shadow of death,
(MN)Prisoners in misery and [eo]chains,
11 Because they had (MO)rebelled against the words of God
And (MP)rejected the (MQ)plan of the Most High.
12 Therefore He humbled their heart with labor;
They stumbled and there was (MR)no one to help.
13 Then they (MS)cried out to the Lord in their trouble;
He saved them from their distresses.
14 He (MT)brought them out of darkness and [ep]the shadow of death
And (MU)broke their bands apart.
15 (MV)They shall give thanks to the Lord for His mercy,
And for His [eq]wonders to the sons of mankind!
16 For He has (MW)shattered gates of bronze
And cut off bars of iron.

17 Fools, because of [er]their rebellious way,
And (MX)because of their guilty deeds, were afflicted.
18 Their (MY)souls loathed all kinds of food,
And they (MZ)came close to the (NA)gates of death.
19 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble;
He saved them from their distresses.
20 He (NB)sent His word and (NC)healed them,
And (ND)saved them from their [es]destruction.
21 (NE)They shall give thanks to the Lord for His mercy,
And for His [et]wonders to the sons of mankind!
22 They shall also offer (NF)sacrifices of thanksgiving,
And (NG)tell of His works with joyful singing.

23 Those who (NH)go down to the sea in ships,
Who do business on great waters;
24 They have seen the works of the Lord,
And His [eu]wonders in the deep.
25 For He (NI)spoke and raised a (NJ)stormy wind,
Which (NK)lifted the waves [ev]of the sea.
26 They rose up to the heavens, they went down to the depths;
Their soul (NL)melted away in their misery.
27 They reeled and (NM)staggered like a drunken person,
And [ew]were at their wits’ end.
28 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
And He brought them out of their distresses.
29 He (NN)caused the storm to be still,
So that the waves [ex]of the sea were hushed.
30 Then they were glad because they were quiet,
So He guided them to their desired harbor.
31 (NO)They shall give thanks to the Lord for His mercy,
And for His [ey](NP)wonders to the sons of mankind!
32 They shall also (NQ)exalt Him (NR)in the congregation of the people,
And (NS)praise Him at the seat of the elders.

33 He (NT)turns rivers into a [ez]wilderness,
And springs of water into a thirsty ground;
34 And a (NU)fruitful land into a (NV)salt waste,
Because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it.
35 He (NW)turns a [fa]wilderness into a pool of water,
And a dry land into springs of water;
36 And He has the hungry live there,
So that they may establish [fb](NX)an inhabited city,
37 And sow fields and (NY)plant vineyards,
And [fc]gather a fruitful harvest.
38 He also blesses them and they (NZ)multiply greatly,
And He (OA)does not let their cattle decrease.

39 When they (OB)become few and (OC)lowly
Because of oppression, misery, and sorrow,
40 He (OD)pours contempt upon noblemen
And (OE)makes them wander (OF)in a pathless wasteland.
41 But He (OG)sets the needy [fd]securely on high, away from affliction,
And (OH)makes his families like a flock.
42 The (OI)upright see it and are glad;
But all (OJ)injustice shuts its mouth.
43 Who is (OK)wise? He is to pay attention to these things,
And consider the (OL)mercy of the Lord.

God Praised and Pleas to Give Victory.

A Song, a Psalm of David.

108 (OM)My heart is steadfast, God;
I will sing, I will sing praises also with my [fe]soul.
Awake, harp and lyre;
I will awaken the dawn!
I will give thanks to You, Lord, among the peoples,
And I will sing praises to You among the nations.
For Your (ON)mercy is great (OO)above the heavens,
And Your truth reaches to the skies.
(OP)Be exalted above the heavens, God,
And may Your glory be above all the earth.
(OQ)So that Your beloved may be rescued,
Save with Your right hand, and answer me!

God has spoken in His [ff]holiness:
“I will triumph, I will divide up Shechem,
And measure out the Valley of Succoth.
Gilead is Mine, Manasseh is Mine;
Ephraim also is the [fg]helmet of My head;
(OR)Judah is My [fh]scepter.
Moab is My washbowl;
I will throw My sandal over Edom;
I will shout aloud over Philistia.”

10 (OS)Who will bring me into the fortified city?
Who [fi]will lead me to Edom?
11 God, have You Yourself not (OT)rejected us?
And will You not go forth with our armies, God?
12 Give us help against the enemy,
For (OU)deliverance [fj]by man is worthless.
13 [fk]Through God we will do valiantly,
And (OV)it is He who will trample down our enemies.

Psalm 100

A psalm. For giving grateful praise.

Shout for joy(A) to the Lord, all the earth.
    Worship the Lord(B) with gladness;
    come before him(C) with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God.(D)
    It is he who made us,(E) and we are his[a];
    we are his people,(F) the sheep of his pasture.(G)

Enter his gates with thanksgiving(H)
    and his courts(I) with praise;
    give thanks to him and praise his name.(J)
For the Lord is good(K) and his love endures forever;(L)
    his faithfulness(M) continues through all generations.

Psalm 101

Of David. A psalm.

I will sing of your love(N) and justice;
    to you, Lord, I will sing praise.
I will be careful to lead a blameless life(O)
    when will you come to me?

I will conduct the affairs(P) of my house
    with a blameless heart.
I will not look with approval
    on anything that is vile.(Q)

I hate what faithless people do;(R)
    I will have no part in it.
The perverse of heart(S) shall be far from me;
    I will have nothing to do with what is evil.

Whoever slanders their neighbor(T) in secret,
    I will put to silence;
whoever has haughty eyes(U) and a proud heart,
    I will not tolerate.

My eyes will be on the faithful in the land,
    that they may dwell with me;
the one whose walk is blameless(V)
    will minister to me.

No one who practices deceit
    will dwell in my house;
no one who speaks falsely
    will stand in my presence.

Every morning(W) I will put to silence
    all the wicked(X) in the land;
I will cut off every evildoer(Y)
    from the city of the Lord.(Z)

Psalm 102[b]

A prayer of an afflicted person who has grown weak and pours out a lament before the Lord.

Hear my prayer,(AA) Lord;
    let my cry for help(AB) come to you.
Do not hide your face(AC) from me
    when I am in distress.
Turn your ear(AD) to me;
    when I call, answer me quickly.

For my days vanish like smoke;(AE)
    my bones(AF) burn like glowing embers.
My heart is blighted and withered like grass;(AG)
    I forget to eat my food.(AH)
In my distress I groan aloud(AI)
    and am reduced to skin and bones.
I am like a desert owl,(AJ)
    like an owl among the ruins.
I lie awake;(AK) I have become
    like a bird alone(AL) on a roof.
All day long my enemies(AM) taunt me;(AN)
    those who rail against me use my name as a curse.(AO)
For I eat ashes(AP) as my food
    and mingle my drink with tears(AQ)
10 because of your great wrath,(AR)
    for you have taken me up and thrown me aside.
11 My days are like the evening shadow;(AS)
    I wither(AT) away like grass.

12 But you, Lord, sit enthroned forever;(AU)
    your renown endures(AV) through all generations.(AW)
13 You will arise(AX) and have compassion(AY) on Zion,
    for it is time(AZ) to show favor(BA) to her;
    the appointed time(BB) has come.
14 For her stones are dear to your servants;
    her very dust moves them to pity.
15 The nations will fear(BC) the name of the Lord,
    all the kings(BD) of the earth will revere your glory.
16 For the Lord will rebuild Zion(BE)
    and appear in his glory.(BF)
17 He will respond to the prayer(BG) of the destitute;
    he will not despise their plea.

18 Let this be written(BH) for a future generation,
    that a people not yet created(BI) may praise the Lord:
19 “The Lord looked down(BJ) from his sanctuary on high,
    from heaven he viewed the earth,
20 to hear the groans of the prisoners(BK)
    and release those condemned to death.”
21 So the name of the Lord will be declared(BL) in Zion
    and his praise(BM) in Jerusalem
22 when the peoples and the kingdoms
    assemble to worship(BN) the Lord.

23 In the course of my life[c] he broke my strength;
    he cut short my days.(BO)
24 So I said:
“Do not take me away, my God, in the midst of my days;
    your years go on(BP) through all generations.
25 In the beginning(BQ) you laid the foundations of the earth,
    and the heavens(BR) are the work of your hands.(BS)
26 They will perish,(BT) but you remain;
    they will all wear out like a garment.
Like clothing you will change them
    and they will be discarded.
27 But you remain the same,(BU)
    and your years will never end.(BV)
28 The children of your servants(BW) will live in your presence;
    their descendants(BX) will be established before you.”

Psalm 103

Of David.

Praise the Lord,(BY) my soul;(BZ)
    all my inmost being, praise his holy name.(CA)
Praise the Lord,(CB) my soul,
    and forget not(CC) all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins(CD)
    and heals(CE) all your diseases,
who redeems your life(CF) from the pit
    and crowns you with love and compassion,(CG)
who satisfies(CH) your desires with good things
    so that your youth is renewed(CI) like the eagle’s.(CJ)

The Lord works righteousness(CK)
    and justice for all the oppressed.(CL)

He made known(CM) his ways(CN) to Moses,
    his deeds(CO) to the people of Israel:
The Lord is compassionate and gracious,(CP)
    slow to anger, abounding in love.
He will not always accuse,
    nor will he harbor his anger forever;(CQ)
10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve(CR)
    or repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
    so great is his love(CS) for those who fear him;(CT)
12 as far as the east is from the west,
    so far has he removed our transgressions(CU) from us.

13 As a father has compassion(CV) on his children,
    so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
14 for he knows how we are formed,(CW)
    he remembers that we are dust.(CX)
15 The life of mortals is like grass,(CY)
    they flourish like a flower(CZ) of the field;
16 the wind blows(DA) over it and it is gone,
    and its place(DB) remembers it no more.
17 But from everlasting to everlasting
    the Lord’s love is with those who fear him,
    and his righteousness with their children’s children(DC)
18 with those who keep his covenant(DD)
    and remember(DE) to obey his precepts.(DF)

19 The Lord has established his throne(DG) in heaven,
    and his kingdom rules(DH) over all.

20 Praise the Lord,(DI) you his angels,(DJ)
    you mighty ones(DK) who do his bidding,(DL)
    who obey his word.
21 Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts,(DM)
    you his servants(DN) who do his will.
22 Praise the Lord, all his works(DO)
    everywhere in his dominion.

Praise the Lord, my soul.(DP)

Psalm 104

Praise the Lord, my soul.(DQ)

Lord my God, you are very great;
    you are clothed with splendor and majesty.(DR)

The Lord wraps(DS) himself in light(DT) as with a garment;
    he stretches(DU) out the heavens(DV) like a tent(DW)
    and lays the beams(DX) of his upper chambers on their waters.(DY)
He makes the clouds(DZ) his chariot(EA)
    and rides on the wings of the wind.(EB)
He makes winds his messengers,[d](EC)
    flames of fire(ED) his servants.

He set the earth(EE) on its foundations;(EF)
    it can never be moved.
You covered it(EG) with the watery depths(EH) as with a garment;
    the waters stood(EI) above the mountains.
But at your rebuke(EJ) the waters fled,
    at the sound of your thunder(EK) they took to flight;
they flowed over the mountains,
    they went down into the valleys,
    to the place you assigned(EL) for them.
You set a boundary(EM) they cannot cross;
    never again will they cover the earth.

10 He makes springs(EN) pour water into the ravines;
    it flows between the mountains.
11 They give water(EO) to all the beasts of the field;
    the wild donkeys(EP) quench their thirst.
12 The birds of the sky(EQ) nest by the waters;
    they sing among the branches.(ER)
13 He waters the mountains(ES) from his upper chambers;(ET)
    the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work.(EU)
14 He makes grass grow(EV) for the cattle,
    and plants for people to cultivate—
    bringing forth food(EW) from the earth:
15 wine(EX) that gladdens human hearts,
    oil(EY) to make their faces shine,
    and bread that sustains(EZ) their hearts.
16 The trees of the Lord(FA) are well watered,
    the cedars of Lebanon(FB) that he planted.
17 There the birds(FC) make their nests;
    the stork has its home in the junipers.
18 The high mountains belong to the wild goats;(FD)
    the crags are a refuge for the hyrax.(FE)

19 He made the moon to mark the seasons,(FF)
    and the sun(FG) knows when to go down.
20 You bring darkness,(FH) it becomes night,(FI)
    and all the beasts of the forest(FJ) prowl.
21 The lions roar for their prey(FK)
    and seek their food from God.(FL)
22 The sun rises, and they steal away;
    they return and lie down in their dens.(FM)
23 Then people go out to their work,(FN)
    to their labor until evening.(FO)

24 How many are your works,(FP) Lord!
    In wisdom you made(FQ) them all;
    the earth is full of your creatures.(FR)
25 There is the sea,(FS) vast and spacious,
    teeming with creatures beyond number—
    living things both large and small.(FT)
26 There the ships(FU) go to and fro,
    and Leviathan,(FV) which you formed to frolic(FW) there.(FX)

27 All creatures look to you
    to give them their food(FY) at the proper time.
28 When you give it to them,
    they gather it up;
when you open your hand,
    they are satisfied(FZ) with good things.
29 When you hide your face,(GA)
    they are terrified;
when you take away their breath,
    they die and return to the dust.(GB)
30 When you send your Spirit,(GC)
    they are created,
    and you renew the face of the ground.

31 May the glory of the Lord(GD) endure forever;
    may the Lord rejoice in his works(GE)
32 he who looks at the earth, and it trembles,(GF)
    who touches the mountains,(GG) and they smoke.(GH)

33 I will sing(GI) to the Lord all my life;
    I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
34 May my meditation be pleasing to him,
    as I rejoice(GJ) in the Lord.
35 But may sinners vanish(GK) from the earth
    and the wicked be no more.(GL)

Praise the Lord, my soul.

Praise the Lord.[e](GM)

Psalm 105(GN)

Give praise to the Lord,(GO) proclaim his name;(GP)
    make known among the nations what he has done.
Sing to him,(GQ) sing praise to him;(GR)
    tell of all his wonderful acts.(GS)
Glory in his holy name;(GT)
    let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
Look to the Lord and his strength;
    seek his face(GU) always.

Remember the wonders(GV) he has done,
    his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,(GW)
you his servants, the descendants of Abraham,(GX)
    his chosen(GY) ones, the children of Jacob.
He is the Lord our God;
    his judgments are in all the earth.

He remembers his covenant(GZ) forever,
    the promise he made, for a thousand generations,
the covenant he made with Abraham,(HA)
    the oath he swore to Isaac.
10 He confirmed it(HB) to Jacob as a decree,
    to Israel as an everlasting covenant:(HC)
11 “To you I will give the land of Canaan(HD)
    as the portion you will inherit.”(HE)

12 When they were but few in number,(HF)
    few indeed, and strangers in it,(HG)
13 they wandered from nation to nation,(HH)
    from one kingdom to another.
14 He allowed no one to oppress(HI) them;
    for their sake he rebuked kings:(HJ)
15 “Do not touch(HK) my anointed ones;
    do my prophets(HL) no harm.”

16 He called down famine(HM) on the land
    and destroyed all their supplies of food;
17 and he sent a man before them—
    Joseph, sold as a slave.(HN)
18 They bruised his feet with shackles,(HO)
    his neck was put in irons,
19 till what he foretold(HP) came to pass,
    till the word(HQ) of the Lord proved him true.
20 The king sent and released him,
    the ruler of peoples set him free.(HR)
21 He made him master of his household,
    ruler over all he possessed,
22 to instruct his princes(HS) as he pleased
    and teach his elders wisdom.(HT)

23 Then Israel entered Egypt;(HU)
    Jacob resided(HV) as a foreigner in the land of Ham.(HW)
24 The Lord made his people very fruitful;
    he made them too numerous(HX) for their foes,
25 whose hearts he turned(HY) to hate his people,
    to conspire(HZ) against his servants.
26 He sent Moses(IA) his servant,
    and Aaron,(IB) whom he had chosen.(IC)
27 They performed(ID) his signs(IE) among them,
    his wonders(IF) in the land of Ham.
28 He sent darkness(IG) and made the land dark—
    for had they not rebelled against(IH) his words?
29 He turned their waters into blood,(II)
    causing their fish to die.(IJ)
30 Their land teemed with frogs,(IK)
    which went up into the bedrooms of their rulers.
31 He spoke,(IL) and there came swarms of flies,(IM)
    and gnats(IN) throughout their country.
32 He turned their rain into hail,(IO)
    with lightning throughout their land;
33 he struck down their vines(IP) and fig trees(IQ)
    and shattered the trees of their country.
34 He spoke,(IR) and the locusts came,(IS)
    grasshoppers(IT) without number;(IU)
35 they ate up every green thing in their land,
    ate up the produce of their soil.
36 Then he struck down all the firstborn(IV) in their land,
    the firstfruits of all their manhood.
37 He brought out Israel, laden with silver and gold,(IW)
    and from among their tribes no one faltered.
38 Egypt was glad when they left,
    because dread of Israel(IX) had fallen on them.

39 He spread out a cloud(IY) as a covering,
    and a fire to give light at night.(IZ)
40 They asked,(JA) and he brought them quail;(JB)
    he fed them well with the bread of heaven.(JC)
41 He opened the rock,(JD) and water gushed out;
    it flowed like a river in the desert.

42 For he remembered his holy promise(JE)
    given to his servant Abraham.
43 He brought out his people with rejoicing,(JF)
    his chosen ones with shouts of joy;
44 he gave them the lands of the nations,(JG)
    and they fell heir to what others had toiled(JH) for—
45 that they might keep his precepts
    and observe his laws.(JI)

Praise the Lord.[f](JJ)

Psalm 106(JK)

Praise the Lord.[g](JL)

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;(JM)
    his love endures forever.(JN)

Who can proclaim the mighty acts(JO) of the Lord
    or fully declare his praise?
Blessed are those who act justly,(JP)
    who always do what is right.(JQ)

Remember me,(JR) Lord, when you show favor(JS) to your people,
    come to my aid(JT) when you save them,
that I may enjoy the prosperity(JU) of your chosen ones,(JV)
    that I may share in the joy(JW) of your nation
    and join your inheritance(JX) in giving praise.

We have sinned,(JY) even as our ancestors(JZ) did;
    we have done wrong and acted wickedly.(KA)
When our ancestors were in Egypt,
    they gave no thought(KB) to your miracles;
they did not remember(KC) your many kindnesses,
    and they rebelled by the sea,(KD) the Red Sea.[h]
Yet he saved them(KE) for his name’s sake,(KF)
    to make his mighty power(KG) known.
He rebuked(KH) the Red Sea, and it dried up;(KI)
    he led them through(KJ) the depths as through a desert.
10 He saved them(KK) from the hand of the foe;(KL)
    from the hand of the enemy he redeemed them.(KM)
11 The waters covered(KN) their adversaries;
    not one of them survived.
12 Then they believed his promises
    and sang his praise.(KO)

13 But they soon forgot(KP) what he had done
    and did not wait for his plan to unfold.(KQ)
14 In the desert(KR) they gave in to their craving;
    in the wilderness(KS) they put God to the test.(KT)
15 So he gave them(KU) what they asked for,
    but sent a wasting disease(KV) among them.

16 In the camp they grew envious(KW) of Moses
    and of Aaron, who was consecrated to the Lord.
17 The earth opened(KX) up and swallowed Dathan;(KY)
    it buried the company of Abiram.(KZ)
18 Fire blazed(LA) among their followers;
    a flame consumed the wicked.
19 At Horeb they made a calf(LB)
    and worshiped an idol cast from metal.
20 They exchanged their glorious God(LC)
    for an image of a bull, which eats grass.
21 They forgot the God(LD) who saved them,
    who had done great things(LE) in Egypt,
22 miracles in the land of Ham(LF)
    and awesome deeds(LG) by the Red Sea.
23 So he said he would destroy(LH) them—
    had not Moses, his chosen one,
stood in the breach(LI) before him
    to keep his wrath from destroying them.

24 Then they despised(LJ) the pleasant land;(LK)
    they did not believe(LL) his promise.
25 They grumbled(LM) in their tents
    and did not obey the Lord.
26 So he swore(LN) to them with uplifted hand
    that he would make them fall in the wilderness,(LO)
27 make their descendants fall among the nations
    and scatter(LP) them throughout the lands.

28 They yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor(LQ)
    and ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods;
29 they aroused the Lord’s anger(LR) by their wicked deeds,(LS)
    and a plague(LT) broke out among them.
30 But Phinehas(LU) stood up and intervened,
    and the plague was checked.(LV)
31 This was credited to him(LW) as righteousness
    for endless generations(LX) to come.
32 By the waters of Meribah(LY) they angered the Lord,
    and trouble came to Moses because of them;
33 for they rebelled(LZ) against the Spirit(MA) of God,
    and rash words came from Moses’ lips.[i](MB)

34 They did not destroy(MC) the peoples
    as the Lord had commanded(MD) them,
35 but they mingled(ME) with the nations
    and adopted their customs.
36 They worshiped their idols,(MF)
    which became a snare(MG) to them.
37 They sacrificed their sons(MH)
    and their daughters to false gods.(MI)
38 They shed innocent blood,
    the blood of their sons(MJ) and daughters,
whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan,
    and the land was desecrated by their blood.
39 They defiled themselves(MK) by what they did;
    by their deeds they prostituted(ML) themselves.

40 Therefore the Lord was angry(MM) with his people
    and abhorred his inheritance.(MN)
41 He gave them into the hands(MO) of the nations,
    and their foes ruled over them.
42 Their enemies oppressed(MP) them
    and subjected them to their power.
43 Many times he delivered them,(MQ)
    but they were bent on rebellion(MR)
    and they wasted away in their sin.
44 Yet he took note of their distress
    when he heard their cry;(MS)
45 for their sake he remembered his covenant(MT)
    and out of his great love(MU) he relented.(MV)
46 He caused all who held them captive
    to show them mercy.(MW)

47 Save us,(MX) Lord our God,
    and gather us(MY) from the nations,
that we may give thanks(MZ) to your holy name(NA)
    and glory in your praise.

48 Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel,
    from everlasting to everlasting.

Let all the people say, “Amen!”(NB)

Praise the Lord.

BOOK V

Psalms 107–150

Psalm 107

Give thanks to the Lord,(NC) for he is good;(ND)
    his love endures forever.

Let the redeemed(NE) of the Lord tell their story—
    those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
those he gathered(NF) from the lands,
    from east and west, from north and south.[j]

Some wandered in desert(NG) wastelands,
    finding no way to a city(NH) where they could settle.
They were hungry(NI) and thirsty,(NJ)
    and their lives ebbed away.
Then they cried out(NK) to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he delivered them from their distress.
He led them by a straight way(NL)
    to a city(NM) where they could settle.
Let them give thanks(NN) to the Lord for his unfailing love(NO)
    and his wonderful deeds(NP) for mankind,
for he satisfies(NQ) the thirsty
    and fills the hungry with good things.(NR)

10 Some sat in darkness,(NS) in utter darkness,
    prisoners suffering(NT) in iron chains,(NU)
11 because they rebelled(NV) against God’s commands
    and despised(NW) the plans(NX) of the Most High.
12 So he subjected them to bitter labor;
    they stumbled, and there was no one to help.(NY)
13 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he saved them(NZ) from their distress.
14 He brought them out of darkness,(OA) the utter darkness,(OB)
    and broke away their chains.(OC)
15 Let them give thanks(OD) to the Lord for his unfailing love(OE)
    and his wonderful deeds(OF) for mankind,
16 for he breaks down gates of bronze
    and cuts through bars of iron.

17 Some became fools(OG) through their rebellious ways(OH)
    and suffered affliction(OI) because of their iniquities.
18 They loathed all food(OJ)
    and drew near the gates of death.(OK)
19 Then they cried(OL) to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he saved them(OM) from their distress.
20 He sent out his word(ON) and healed them;(OO)
    he rescued(OP) them from the grave.(OQ)
21 Let them give thanks(OR) to the Lord for his unfailing love(OS)
    and his wonderful deeds(OT) for mankind.
22 Let them sacrifice thank offerings(OU)
    and tell of his works(OV) with songs of joy.(OW)

23 Some went out on the sea(OX) in ships;(OY)
    they were merchants on the mighty waters.
24 They saw the works of the Lord,(OZ)
    his wonderful deeds in the deep.
25 For he spoke(PA) and stirred up a tempest(PB)
    that lifted high the waves.(PC)
26 They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths;
    in their peril(PD) their courage melted(PE) away.
27 They reeled(PF) and staggered like drunkards;
    they were at their wits’ end.
28 Then they cried(PG) out to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he brought them out of their distress.(PH)
29 He stilled the storm(PI) to a whisper;
    the waves(PJ) of the sea[k] were hushed.(PK)
30 They were glad when it grew calm,
    and he guided them(PL) to their desired haven.
31 Let them give thanks(PM) to the Lord for his unfailing love(PN)
    and his wonderful deeds(PO) for mankind.
32 Let them exalt(PP) him in the assembly(PQ) of the people
    and praise him in the council of the elders.

33 He turned rivers into a desert,(PR)
    flowing springs(PS) into thirsty ground,
34 and fruitful land into a salt waste,(PT)
    because of the wickedness of those who lived there.
35 He turned the desert into pools of water(PU)
    and the parched ground into flowing springs;(PV)
36 there he brought the hungry to live,
    and they founded a city where they could settle.
37 They sowed fields and planted vineyards(PW)
    that yielded a fruitful harvest;
38 he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased,(PX)
    and he did not let their herds diminish.(PY)

39 Then their numbers decreased,(PZ) and they were humbled(QA)
    by oppression, calamity and sorrow;
40 he who pours contempt on nobles(QB)
    made them wander in a trackless waste.(QC)
41 But he lifted the needy(QD) out of their affliction
    and increased their families like flocks.(QE)
42 The upright see and rejoice,(QF)
    but all the wicked shut their mouths.(QG)

43 Let the one who is wise(QH) heed these things
    and ponder the loving deeds(QI) of the Lord.

Psalm 108[l](QJ)(QK)

A song. A psalm of David.

My heart, O God, is steadfast;(QL)
    I will sing(QM) and make music with all my soul.
Awake, harp and lyre!(QN)
    I will awaken the dawn.
I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
    I will sing of you among the peoples.
For great is your love,(QO) higher than the heavens;
    your faithfulness(QP) reaches to the skies.(QQ)
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;(QR)
    let your glory be over all the earth.(QS)

Save us and help us with your right hand,(QT)
    that those you love may be delivered.
God has spoken(QU) from his sanctuary:(QV)
    “In triumph I will parcel out Shechem(QW)
    and measure off the Valley of Sukkoth.(QX)
Gilead is mine, Manasseh is mine;
    Ephraim is my helmet,
    Judah(QY) is my scepter.
Moab(QZ) is my washbasin,
    on Edom(RA) I toss my sandal;
    over Philistia(RB) I shout in triumph.”

10 Who will bring me to the fortified city?
    Who will lead me to Edom?
11 Is it not you, God, you who have rejected us
    and no longer go out with our armies?(RC)
12 Give us aid against the enemy,
    for human help is worthless.(RD)
13 With God we will gain the victory,
    and he will trample down(RE) our enemies.
