²¹ They will treat you this way because of my name,^(A) for they do not know the one who sent me.^(B)

² We sent Timothy,^(A) who is our brother and co-worker^(B) in God’s service in spreading the gospel of Christ,^(C) to strengthen and encourage you in your faith, ³ so that no one would be unsettled by these trials.^(D) For you know quite well that we are destined for them.^(E)

⁵ And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says,

Suffering for Being a Christian

¹² Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you^(A) to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. ¹³ But rejoice^(B) inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ,^(C) so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.^(D)
