⁴ Not so the wicked!
    They are like chaff^(Q)
    that the wind blows away.
⁵ Therefore the wicked will not stand^(R) in the judgment,^(S)
    nor sinners in the assembly^(T) of the righteous.

⁶ For the Lord watches over^(U) the way of the righteous,
    but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.^(V)

² In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak,^(C)
    who are caught in the schemes he devises.
³ He boasts^(D) about the cravings of his heart;
    he blesses the greedy and reviles the Lord.^(E)
4 In his pride the wicked man does not seek him;
    in all his thoughts there is no room for God.^(F)
5 His ways are always prosperous;
    your laws are rejected by^[b] him;
    he sneers at all his enemies.
⁶ He says to himself, “Nothing will ever shake me.”
    He swears, “No one will ever do me harm.”^(G)

⁷ His mouth is full^(H) of lies and threats;^(I)
    trouble and evil are under his tongue.^(J)
8 He lies in wait^(K) near the villages;
    from ambush he murders the innocent.^(L)
His eyes watch in secret for his victims;
⁹     like a lion in cover he lies in wait.
He lies in wait to catch the helpless;^(M)
    he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.^(N)
10 His victims are crushed,^(O) they collapse;
    they fall under his strength.
¹¹ He says to himself, “God will never notice;^(P)
    he covers his face and never sees.”^(Q)

¹² Arise,^(R) Lord! Lift up your hand,^(S) O God.
    Do not forget the helpless.^(T)
13 Why does the wicked man revile God?^(U)
    Why does he say to himself,
    “He won’t call me to account”?^(V)
14 But you, God, see the trouble^(W) of the afflicted;
    you consider their grief and take it in hand.
The victims commit themselves to you;^(X)
    you are the helper^(Y) of the fatherless.
¹⁵ Break the arm of the wicked man;^(Z)
    call the evildoer to account for his wickedness
    that would not otherwise be found out.

¹⁶ The Lord is King for ever and ever;^(AA)
    the nations^(AB) will perish from his land.
¹⁷ You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted;^(AC)
    you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,^(AD)
18 defending the fatherless^(AE) and the oppressed,^(AF)
    so that mere earthly mortals
    will never again strike terror.

⁴ For the word of the Lord is right^(H) and true;^(I)
    he is faithful^(J) in all he does.
⁵ The Lord loves righteousness and justice;^(K)
    the earth is full of his unfailing love.^(L)

⁶ By the word^(M) of the Lord the heavens were made,^(N)
    their starry host^(O) by the breath of his mouth.
⁷ He gathers the waters^(P) of the sea into jars^[a];^(Q)
    he puts the deep into storehouses.
⁸ Let all the earth fear the Lord;^(R)
    let all the people of the world^(S) revere him.^(T)
9 For he spoke, and it came to be;
    he commanded,^(U) and it stood firm.

¹⁰ The Lord foils^(V) the plans^(W) of the nations;^(X)
    he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.
¹¹ But the plans of the Lord stand firm^(Y) forever,
    the purposes^(Z) of his heart through all generations.

¹² Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,^(AA)
    the people he chose^(AB) for his inheritance.^(AC)
13 From heaven the Lord looks down^(AD)
    and sees all mankind;^(AE)
14 from his dwelling place^(AF) he watches
    all who live on earth—
¹⁵ he who forms^(AG) the hearts of all,
    who considers everything they do.^(AH)

¹⁶ No king is saved by the size of his army;^(AI)
    no warrior escapes by his great strength.
¹⁷ A horse^(AJ) is a vain hope for deliverance;
    despite all its great strength it cannot save.
¹⁸ But the eyes^(AK) of the Lord are on those who fear him,
    on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,^(AL)
19 to deliver them from death^(AM)
    and keep them alive in famine.^(AN)

²⁰ We wait^(AO) in hope for the Lord;
    he is our help and our shield.
²¹ In him our hearts rejoice,^(AP)
    for we trust in his holy name.^(AQ)
22 May your unfailing love^(AR) be with us, Lord,
    even as we put our hope in you.

⁵ Come and see what God has done,
    his awesome deeds^(H) for mankind!
⁶ He turned the sea into dry land,^(I)
    they passed through^(J) the waters on foot—
    come, let us rejoice^(K) in him.
⁷ He rules forever^(L) by his power,
    his eyes watch^(M) the nations—
    let not the rebellious^(N) rise up against him.

⁸ Praise^(O) our God, all peoples,
    let the sound of his praise be heard;
⁹ he has preserved our lives^(P)
    and kept our feet from slipping.^(Q)
10 For you, God, tested^(R) us;
    you refined us like silver.^(S)
11 You brought us into prison^(T)
    and laid burdens^(U) on our backs.
¹² You let people ride over our heads;^(V)
    we went through fire and water,
    but you brought us to a place of abundance.^(W)

¹³ I will come to your temple with burnt offerings^(X)
    and fulfill my vows^(Y) to you—
¹⁴ vows my lips promised and my mouth spoke
    when I was in trouble.
¹⁵ I will sacrifice fat animals to you
    and an offering of rams;
    I will offer bulls and goats.^(Z)

¹⁶ Come and hear,^(AA) all you who fear God;
    let me tell^(AB) you what he has done for me.
¹⁷ I cried out to him with my mouth;
    his praise was on my tongue.
¹⁸ If I had cherished sin in my heart,
    the Lord would not have listened;^(AC)
19 but God has surely listened
    and has heard^(AD) my prayer.
²⁰ Praise be to God,
    who has not rejected^(AE) my prayer
    or withheld his love from me!

³ May the peoples praise you, God;
    may all the peoples praise you.^(AI)
4 May the nations be glad and sing for joy,^(AJ)
    for you rule the peoples with equity^(AK)
    and guide the nations of the earth.^(AL)
5 May the peoples praise you, God;
    may all the peoples praise you.

⁶ The land yields its harvest;^(AM)
    God, our God, blesses us.^(AN)
7 May God bless us still,
    so that all the ends of the earth^(AO) will fear him.^(AP)

⁵ For you have been my hope,^(I) Sovereign Lord,
    my confidence^(J) since my youth.
⁶ From birth^(K) I have relied on you;
    you brought me forth from my mother’s womb.^(L)
    I will ever praise^(M) you.
⁷ I have become a sign^(N) to many;
    you are my strong refuge.^(O)
8 My mouth^(P) is filled with your praise,
    declaring your splendor^(Q) all day long.

⁹ Do not cast^(R) me away when I am old;^(S)
    do not forsake^(T) me when my strength is gone.
¹⁰ For my enemies^(U) speak against me;
    those who wait to kill^(V) me conspire^(W) together.
¹¹ They say, “God has forsaken^(X) him;
    pursue him and seize him,
    for no one will rescue^(Y) him.”
¹² Do not be far^(Z) from me, my God;
    come quickly, God, to help^(AA) me.
¹³ May my accusers^(AB) perish in shame;^(AC)
    may those who want to harm me
    be covered with scorn and disgrace.^(AD)

¹⁴ As for me, I will always have hope;^(AE)
    I will praise you more and more.

¹⁵ My mouth will tell^(AF) of your righteous deeds,^(AG)
    of your saving acts all day long—
    though I know not how to relate them all.
¹⁶ I will come and proclaim your mighty acts,^(AH) Sovereign Lord;
    I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone.
¹⁷ Since my youth, God, you have taught^(AI) me,
    and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.^(AJ)
18 Even when I am old and gray,^(AK)
    do not forsake me, my God,
till I declare your power^(AL) to the next generation,
    your mighty acts to all who are to come.^(AM)

¹⁹ Your righteousness, God, reaches to the heavens,^(AN)
    you who have done great things.^(AO)
    Who is like you, God?^(AP)
20 Though you have made me see troubles,^(AQ)
    many and bitter,
    you will restore^(AR) my life again;
from the depths of the earth^(AS)
    you will again bring me up.
²¹ You will increase my honor^(AT)
    and comfort^(AU) me once more.

²² I will praise you with the harp^(AV)
    for your faithfulness, my God;
I will sing praise to you with the lyre,^(AW)
    Holy One of Israel.^(AX)
23 My lips will shout for joy^(AY)
    when I sing praise to you—
    I whom you have delivered.^(AZ)
24 My tongue will tell of your righteous acts
    all day long,^(BA)
for those who wanted to harm me^(BB)
    have been put to shame and confusion.^(BC)

⁴ For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord;
    I sing for joy^(G) at what your hands have done.^(H)
5 How great are your works,^(I) Lord,
    how profound your thoughts!^(J)
6 Senseless people^(K) do not know,
    fools do not understand,
⁷ that though the wicked spring up like grass
    and all evildoers flourish,
    they will be destroyed forever.^(L)

⁸ But you, Lord, are forever exalted.

⁹ For surely your enemies^(M), Lord,
    surely your enemies will perish;
    all evildoers will be scattered.^(N)
10 You have exalted my horn^[b](O) like that of a wild ox;^(P)
    fine oils^(Q) have been poured on me.
¹¹ My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries;
    my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes.^(R)

¹² The righteous will flourish^(S) like a palm tree,
    they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;^(T)
13 planted in the house of the Lord,
    they will flourish in the courts of our God.^(U)
14 They will still bear fruit^(V) in old age,
    they will stay fresh and green,
¹⁵ proclaiming, “The Lord is upright;
    he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.^(W)”

³ The seas^(AE) have lifted up, Lord,
    the seas have lifted up their voice;^(AF)
    the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.^(AG)
4 Mightier than the thunder^(AH) of the great waters,
    mightier than the breakers^(AI) of the sea—
    the Lord on high is mighty.^(AJ)

⁵ Your statutes, Lord, stand firm;
    holiness^(AK) adorns your house^(AL)
    for endless days.

⁴ They pour out arrogant^(AS) words;
    all the evildoers are full of boasting.^(AT)
5 They crush your people,^(AU) Lord;
    they oppress your inheritance.^(AV)
6 They slay the widow^(AW) and the foreigner;
    they murder the fatherless.^(AX)
7 They say, “The Lord does not see;^(AY)
    the God of Jacob^(AZ) takes no notice.”

⁸ Take notice, you senseless ones^(BA) among the people;
    you fools, when will you become wise?
⁹ Does he who fashioned the ear not hear?
    Does he who formed the eye not see?^(BB)
10 Does he who disciplines^(BC) nations not punish?
    Does he who teaches^(BD) mankind lack knowledge?
¹¹ The Lord knows all human plans;^(BE)
    he knows that they are futile.^(BF)

¹² Blessed is the one you discipline,^(BG) Lord,
    the one you teach^(BH) from your law;
¹³ you grant them relief from days of trouble,^(BI)
    till a pit^(BJ) is dug for the wicked.
¹⁴ For the Lord will not reject his people;^(BK)
    he will never forsake his inheritance.
¹⁵ Judgment will again be founded on righteousness,^(BL)
    and all the upright in heart^(BM) will follow it.

¹⁶ Who will rise up^(BN) for me against the wicked?
    Who will take a stand for me against evildoers?^(BO)
17 Unless the Lord had given me help,^(BP)
    I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death.^(BQ)
18 When I said, “My foot is slipping,^(BR)”
    your unfailing love, Lord, supported me.
¹⁹ When anxiety^(BS) was great within me,
    your consolation^(BT) brought me joy.

²⁰ Can a corrupt throne^(BU) be allied with you—
    a throne that brings on misery by its decrees?^(BV)
21 The wicked band together^(BW) against the righteous
    and condemn the innocent^(BX) to death.^(BY)
22 But the Lord has become my fortress,
    and my God the rock^(BZ) in whom I take refuge.^(CA)
23 He will repay^(CB) them for their sins
    and destroy^(CC) them for their wickedness;
    the Lord our God will destroy them.

³ For the Lord is the great God,^(CK)
    the great King^(CL) above all gods.^(CM)
4 In his hand are the depths of the earth,^(CN)
    and the mountain peaks belong to him.
⁵ The sea is his, for he made it,
    and his hands formed the dry land.^(CO)

⁶ Come, let us bow down^(CP) in worship,^(CQ)
    let us kneel^(CR) before the Lord our Maker;^(CS)
7 for he is our God
    and we are the people of his pasture,^(CT)
    the flock under his care.

Today, if only you would hear his voice,
⁸ “Do not harden your hearts^(CU) as you did at Meribah,^[c](CV)
    as you did that day at Massah^[d] in the wilderness,^(CW)
9 where your ancestors tested^(CX) me;
    they tried me, though they had seen what I did.
¹⁰ For forty years^(CY) I was angry with that generation;
    I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray,^(CZ)
    and they have not known my ways.’^(DA)
11 So I declared on oath^(DB) in my anger,
    ‘They shall never enter my rest.’”^(DC)
