⁴ Shout for joy^(M) to the Lord, all the earth,
    burst into jubilant song with music;
⁵ make music to the Lord with the harp,^(N)
    with the harp and the sound of singing,^(O)
6 with trumpets^(P) and the blast of the ram’s horn^(Q)—
    shout for joy^(R) before the Lord, the King.^(S)

⁷ Let the sea^(T) resound, and everything in it,
    the world, and all who live in it.^(U)
8 Let the rivers clap their hands,^(V)
    let the mountains^(W) sing together for joy;
⁹ let them sing before the Lord,
    for he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness
    and the peoples with equity.^(X)

³ Lord, what are human beings^(F) that you care for them,
    mere mortals that you think of them?
⁴ They are like a breath;^(G)
    their days are like a fleeting shadow.^(H)

⁵ Part your heavens,^(I) Lord, and come down;^(J)
    touch the mountains, so that they smoke.^(K)
6 Send forth lightning^(L) and scatter^(M) the enemy;
    shoot your arrows^(N) and rout them.
⁷ Reach down your hand from on high;^(O)
    deliver me and rescue me^(P)
from the mighty waters,^(Q)
    from the hands of foreigners^(R)
8 whose mouths are full of lies,^(S)
    whose right hands^(T) are deceitful.^(U)

⁹ I will sing a new song^(V) to you, my God;
    on the ten-stringed lyre^(W) I will make music to you,
¹⁰ to the One who gives victory to kings,^(X)
    who delivers his servant David.^(Y)

From the deadly sword^{(Z) 11} deliver me;
    rescue me^(AA) from the hands of foreigners^(AB)
whose mouths are full of lies,^(AC)
    whose right hands are deceitful.^(AD)

¹² Then our sons in their youth
    will be like well-nurtured plants,^(AE)
and our daughters will be like pillars^(AF)
    carved to adorn a palace.
¹³ Our barns will be filled^(AG)
    with every kind of provision.
Our sheep will increase by thousands,
    by tens of thousands in our fields;
¹⁴     our oxen^(AH) will draw heavy loads.^[b]
There will be no breaching of walls,^(AI)
    no going into captivity,
    no cry of distress in our streets.^(AJ)
15 Blessed is the people^(AK) of whom this is true;
    blessed is the people whose God is the Lord.

¹⁰ “‘So do not be afraid,^(A) Jacob my servant;^(B)
    do not be dismayed, Israel,’
declares the Lord.
‘I will surely save^(C) you out of a distant place,
    your descendants from the land of their exile.
Jacob will again have peace and security,^(D)
    and no one will make him afraid.^(E)
11 I am with you^(F) and will save you,’
    declares the Lord.
‘Though I completely destroy all the nations
    among which I scatter you,
    I will not completely destroy^(G) you.
I will discipline^(H) you but only in due measure;
    I will not let you go entirely unpunished.’^(I)

“‘Your wound^(J) is incurable,
    your injury beyond healing.^(K)
13 There is no one to plead your cause,^(L)
    no remedy for your sore,
    no healing^(M) for you.
¹⁴ All your allies^(N) have forgotten you;
    they care nothing for you.
I have struck you as an enemy^(O) would
    and punished you as would the cruel,^(P)
because your guilt is so great
    and your sins^(Q) so many.
¹⁵ Why do you cry out over your wound,
    your pain that has no cure?^(R)
Because of your great guilt and many sins
    I have done these things to you.^(S)

¹⁶ “‘But all who devour^(T) you will be devoured;
    all your enemies will go into exile.^(U)
Those who plunder^(V) you will be plundered;
    all who make spoil of you I will despoil.
¹⁷ But I will restore you to health
    and heal^(W) your wounds,’
declares the Lord,
‘because you are called an outcast,^(X)
    Zion for whom no one cares.’^(Y)

“Blessed are you who are poor,
    for yours is the kingdom of God.^(I)
21 Blessed are you who hunger now,
    for you will be satisfied.^(J)
Blessed are you who weep now,
    for you will laugh.^(K)
22 Blessed are you when people hate you,
    when they exclude you^(L) and insult you^(M)
    and reject your name as evil,
        because of the Son of Man.^(N)

²⁴ “But woe to you who are rich,^(Q)
    for you have already received your comfort.^(R)
25 Woe to you who are well fed now,
    for you will go hungry.^(S)
Woe to you who laugh now,
    for you will mourn and weep.^(T)
26 Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you,
    for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.^(U)
