4 The one who has clean hands^(F) and a pure heart,^(G)
    who does not trust in an idol^(H)

⁵ They will receive blessing^(I) from the Lord
    and vindication^(J) from God their Savior.
⁶ Such is the generation of those who seek him,
    who seek your face,^(K) God of Jacob.^[b][c]

⁷ Lift up your heads, you gates;^(L)
    be lifted up, you ancient doors,
    that the King^(M) of glory^(N) may come in.^(O)
8 Who is this King of glory?
    The Lord strong and mighty,^(P)
    the Lord mighty in battle.^(Q)
9 Lift up your heads, you gates;
    lift them up, you ancient doors,
    that the King of glory may come in.

    The Lord Almighty^(R)—
    he is the King of glory.

³ The voice^(E) of the Lord is over the waters;
    the God of glory^(F) thunders,^(G)
    the Lord thunders over the mighty waters.^(H)
4 The voice of the Lord is powerful;^(I)
    the voice of the Lord is majestic.
⁵ The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars;
    the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.^(J)
6 He makes Lebanon leap^(K) like a calf,
    Sirion^[b](L) like a young wild ox.^(M)
7 The voice of the Lord strikes
    with flashes of lightning.^(N)
8 The voice of the Lord shakes the desert;
    the Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh.^(O)
9 The voice of the Lord twists the oaks^[c](P)
    and strips the forests bare.
And in his temple all cry, “Glory!”^(Q)

20 Can you take them to their places?
    Do you know the paths^(D) to their dwellings?

    or seen the storehouses^(G) of the hail,^(H)
23 which I reserve for times of trouble,^(I)
    for days of war and battle?^(J)
24 What is the way to the place where the lightning is dispersed,^(K)
    or the place where the east winds^(L) are scattered over the earth?^(M)
25 Who cuts a channel for the torrents of rain,
    and a path for the thunderstorm,^(N)
26 to water^(O) a land where no one lives,
    an uninhabited desert,^(P)
27 to satisfy a desolate wasteland
    and make it sprout with grass?^(Q)
28 Does the rain have a father?^(R)
    Who fathers the drops of dew?
²⁹ From whose womb comes the ice?
    Who gives birth to the frost from the heavens^(S)
30 when the waters become hard as stone,
    when the surface of the deep is frozen?^(T)

    Can you loosen Orion’s belt?^(U)
32 Can you bring forth the constellations^(V) in their seasons^[b]

    Can you set up God’s^[d] dominion over the earth?

    and cover yourself with a flood of water?^(Z)
35 Do you send the lightning bolts on their way?^(AA)
    Do they report to you, ‘Here we are’?
³⁶ Who gives the ibis wisdom^[e](AB)
    or gives the rooster understanding?^[f](AC)
37 Who has the wisdom to count the clouds?
    Who can tip over the water jars^(AD) of the heavens^(AE)
38 when the dust becomes hard^(AF)
    and the clods of earth stick together?^(AG)

³⁹ “Do you hunt the prey for the lioness
    and satisfy the hunger of the lions^(AH)
40 when they crouch in their dens^(AI)
    or lie in wait in a thicket?^(AJ)
41 Who provides food^(AK) for the raven^(AL)
    when its young cry out to God
    and wander about for lack of food?^(AM)

“‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great!’^[a](D)
    She has become a dwelling for demons
and a haunt for every impure spirit,^(E)
    a haunt for every unclean bird,
    a haunt for every unclean and detestable animal.^(F)
3 For all the nations have drunk
    the maddening wine of her adulteries.^(G)
The kings of the earth committed adultery with her,^(H)
    and the merchants of the earth grew rich^(I) from her excessive luxuries.”^(J)

“‘Come out of her, my people,’^[b](K)
    so that you will not share in her sins,
    so that you will not receive any of her plagues;^(L)
5 for her sins are piled up to heaven,^(M)
    and God has remembered^(N) her crimes.
⁶ Give back to her as she has given;
    pay her back^(O) double^(P) for what she has done.
    Pour her a double portion from her own cup.^(Q)
7 Give her as much torment and grief
    as the glory and luxury she gave herself.^(R)
In her heart she boasts,
    ‘I sit enthroned as queen.
I am not a widow;^[c]
    I will never mourn.’^(S)
8 Therefore in one day^(T) her plagues will overtake her:
    death, mourning and famine.
She will be consumed by fire,^(U)
    for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.
