Psalm 119:49-72

ז Zayin

⁴⁹Remember your word^(A) to your servant,
    for you have given me hope.^(B)
⁵⁰My comfort in my suffering is this:
    Your promise preserves my life.^(C)
⁵¹The arrogant mock me^(D) unmercifully,
    but I do not turn^(E) from your law.
⁵²I remember,^(F) Lord, your ancient laws,
    and I find comfort in them.
⁵³Indignation grips me^(G) because of the wicked,
    who have forsaken your law.^(H)
⁵⁴Your decrees are the theme of my song^(I)
    wherever I lodge.
⁵⁵In the night, Lord, I remember^(J) your name,
    that I may keep your law.^(K)
⁵⁶This has been my practice:
    I obey your precepts.^(L)

⁵⁷You are my portion,^(M) Lord;
    I have promised to obey your words.^(N)
⁵⁸I have sought^(O) your face with all my heart;
    be gracious to me^(P) according to your promise.^(Q)

    and have turned my steps to your statutes.

    for your righteous laws.^(V)

⁶⁵Do good^(AA) to your servant

⁶⁶Teach me knowledge^(AC) and good judgment,
    for I trust your commands.
⁶⁷Before I was afflicted^(AD) I went astray,^(AE)
    but now I obey your word.^(AF)
⁶⁸You are good,^(AG) and what you do is good;
    teach me your decrees.^(AH)
⁶⁹Though the arrogant have smeared me with lies,^(AI)
    I keep your precepts with all my heart.
⁷⁰Their hearts are callous^(AJ) and unfeeling,
    but I delight in your law.
⁷¹It was good for me to be afflicted^(AK)
    so that I might learn your decrees.
⁷²The law from your mouth is more precious to me
    than thousands of pieces of silver and gold.^(AL)

Joshua 8:30-35

The Covenant Renewed at Mount Ebal

³⁰Then Joshua built on Mount Ebal^(A) an altar^(B) to the Lord, the God of Israel, ³¹as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded the Israelites. He built it according to what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses—an altar of uncut stones, on which no iron tool^(C) had been used. On it they offered to the Lord burnt offerings and sacrificed fellowship offerings.^(D) ³²There, in the presence of the Israelites, Joshua wrote on stones a copy of the law of Moses.^(E) ³³All the Israelites, with their elders, officials and judges, were standing on both sides of the ark of the covenant of the Lord, facing the Levitical^(F) priests who carried it. Both the foreigners living among them and the native-born^(G) were there. Half of the people stood in front of Mount Gerizim and half of them in front of Mount Ebal,^(H) as Moses the servant of the Lord had formerly commanded when he gave instructions to bless the people of Israel.

³⁴Afterward, Joshua read all the words of the law—the blessings and the curses—just as it is written in the Book of the Law.^(I) ³⁵There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded that Joshua did not read to the whole assembly of Israel, including the women and children, and the foreigners who lived among them.^(J)

Romans 14:13-23

New International Version

¹³Therefore let us stop passing judgment^(A) on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.^(B) ¹⁴I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself.^(C) But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean.^(D) ¹⁵If your brother or sister is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love.^(E) Do not by your eating destroy someone for whom Christ died.^(F) ¹⁶Therefore do not let what you know is good be spoken of as evil.^(G) ¹⁷For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking,^(H) but of righteousness, peace^(I) and joy in the Holy Spirit,^(J) ¹⁸because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and receives human approval.^(K)

¹⁹Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace^(L) and to mutual edification.^(M) ²⁰Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food.^(N) All food is clean,^(O) but it is wrong for a person to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble.^(P) ²¹It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother or sister to fall.^(Q)

²²So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not condemn^(R) himself by what he approves. ²³But whoever has doubts^(S) is condemned if they eat, because their eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin.^[a]

Jesus Before the Sanhedrin^(A)

⁵⁷Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas^(B) the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled. ⁵⁸But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest.^(C) He entered and sat down with the guards^(D) to see the outcome.

⁵⁹The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin^(E) were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. ⁶⁰But they did not find any, though many false witnesses^(F) came forward.

Finally two^(G) came forward ⁶¹and declared, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’”^(H)

⁶²Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” ⁶³But Jesus remained silent.^(I)

The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath^(J) by the living God:^(K) Tell us if you are the Messiah,^(L) the Son of God.”^(M)

⁶⁴“You have said so,”^(N) Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One^(O) and coming on the clouds of heaven.”^[a]^(P)

⁶⁵Then the high priest tore his clothes^(Q) and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. ⁶⁶What do you think?”

“He is worthy of death,”^(R) they answered.

⁶⁷Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists.^(S) Others slapped him ⁶⁸and said, “Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?”^(T)
