Proverbs 9:1-6

Invitations of Wisdom and Folly

9 Wisdom has built^(A) her house;
    she has set up^[a] its seven pillars.
²She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine;^(B)
    she has also set her table.^(C)
³She has sent out her servants, and she calls^(D)
    from the highest point of the city,^(E)
⁴    “Let all who are simple^(F) come to my house!”
To those who have no sense^(G) she says,
⁵    “Come,^(H) eat my food
    and drink the wine I have mixed.^(I)
⁶Leave your simple ways and you will live;^(J)
    walk in the way of insight.”^(K)

Psalm 147

¹Praise the Lord.^[a]

How good it is to sing praises to our God,
how pleasant^(A) and fitting to praise him!^(B)

²The Lord builds up Jerusalem;^(C)
    he gathers the exiles^(D) of Israel.
³He heals the brokenhearted^(E)
    and binds up their wounds.^(F)
⁴He determines the number of the stars^(G)
    and calls them each by name.
⁵Great is our Lord^(H) and mighty in power;^(I)
    his understanding has no limit.^(J)
⁶The Lord sustains the humble^(K)
    but casts the wicked^(L) to the ground.

⁷Sing to the Lord^(M) with grateful praise;^(N)
make music^(O) to our God on the harp.^(P)

⁸He covers the sky with clouds;^(Q)
    he supplies the earth with rain^(R)
    and makes grass grow^(S) on the hills.
⁹He provides food^(T) for the cattle
    and for the young ravens^(U) when they call.

¹⁰His pleasure is not in the strength^(V) of the horse,^(W)
nor his delight in the legs of the warrior;
¹¹the Lord delights^(X) in those who fear him,^(Y)
who put their hope^(Z) in his unfailing love.^(AA)

¹²Extol the Lord, Jerusalem;^(AB)
praise your God, Zion.

¹³He strengthens the bars of your gates^(AC)
and blesses your people^(AD) within you.
¹⁴He grants peace^(AE) to your borders
and satisfies you^(AF) with the finest of wheat.^(AG)

¹⁵He sends his command^(AH) to the earth;
    his word runs^(AI) swiftly.
¹⁶He spreads the snow^(AJ) like wool
    and scatters the frost^(AK) like ashes.
¹⁷He hurls down his hail^(AL) like pebbles.
    Who can withstand his icy blast?
¹⁸He sends his word^(AM) and melts them;
    he stirs up his breezes,^(AN) and the waters flow.

¹⁹He has revealed his word^(AO) to Jacob,^(AP)
his laws and decrees^(AQ) to Israel.
²⁰He has done this for no other nation;^(AR)
they do not know^(AS) his laws.^[b]

Ephesians 5:3-14

³But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality,^(A) or of any kind of impurity, or of greed,^(B) because these are improper for God’s holy people. ⁴Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk^(C) or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.^(D) ⁵For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater^(E)—has any inheritance^(F) in the kingdom of Christ and of God.^[a]^(G) ⁶Let no one deceive you^(H) with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath^(I) comes on those who are disobedient.^(J) ⁷Therefore do not be partners with them.

⁸For you were once^(K) darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light^(L) ⁹(for the fruit^(M) of the light consists in all goodness,^(N) righteousness and truth) ¹⁰and find out what pleases the Lord.^(O) ¹¹Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness,^(P) but rather expose them. ¹²It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. ¹³But everything exposed by the light^(Q) becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. ¹⁴This is why it is said:

“Wake up, sleeper,^(R)
rise from the dead,^(S)
and Christ will shine on you.”^(T)

Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”^(G) ⁵⁹He said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.
