2 A curse you don't deserve
will take wings and fly away
    like a sparrow or a swallow.
3 Horses and donkeys
must be beaten and bridled—
    and so must fools.
4 Don't make a fool of yourself
    by answering a fool.

2 Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow,
    an undeserved curse does not come to rest.(A)
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey,(B)
    and a rod for the backs of fools!(C)
4 Do not answer a fool according to his folly,
    or you yourself will be just like him.(D)
