5 (A)A false witness shall not be unpunished: and he that speaketh lies, shall not escape.

6 Many reverence the face of the prince, and every man is friend to him that giveth gifts.

7 All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more will his friends depart far from him? though he be instant [a]with words, yet they will not.

6 Many curry favor with a ruler,(D)
    and everyone is the friend of one who gives gifts.(E)

7 The poor are shunned by all their relatives—
    how much more do their friends avoid them!(F)
Though the poor pursue them with pleading,
    they are nowhere to be found.[a](G)
