God's Provision

10 I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length (A)you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity. 11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be (B)content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and (C)hunger, abundance and (D)need. 13 I can do all things (E)through him who strengthens me.

14 Yet it was kind of you (F)to share[a] my trouble. 15 And you Philippians yourselves know that (G)in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, (H)no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only. 16 Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again.

  1. Philippians 4:14 Or have fellowship in

21 And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, (A)because of the people, for all were praising God (B)for what had happened. 22 For the man on whom this sign of healing was performed was more than forty years old.

The Believers Pray for Boldness

23 When they were released, they went to their friends and reported what the chief priests and the elders had said to them. 24 And when they heard it, they lifted their voices (C)together to God and said, “Sovereign Lord, (D)who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them, 25 who through the mouth of our father David, your servant,[a] said by the Holy Spirit,

(E)“‘Why did the Gentiles rage,
and the peoples plot in vain?
26 The kings of the earth set themselves,
and (F)the rulers were gathered together,
against the Lord and against his (G)Anointed’[b]

27 for truly in this city there were gathered together against your (H)holy servant Jesus, (I)whom you anointed, both (J)Herod and (K)Pontius Pilate, along (L)with the Gentiles and (M)the peoples of Israel, 28 (N)to do whatever your hand and (O)your plan had predestined to take place. 29 And now, Lord, (P)look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all (Q)boldness, 30 while (R)you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed (S)through the name of your (T)holy servant Jesus.” 31 And when they had prayed, (U)the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and (V)they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and (W)continued to speak the word of God with boldness.

They Had Everything in Common

32 Now the full number of those who believed were of (X)one heart and (Y)soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but (Z)they had everything in common. 33 And with great (AA)power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and (AB)great grace was upon them all. 34 (AC)There was not a needy person among them, for (AD)as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold 35 and (AE)laid it at the apostles' feet, and (AF)it was distributed to each as any had need. 36 Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means (AG)son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus, 37 sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and (AH)laid it at the apostles' feet.

Ananias and Sapphira

But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, and with his wife's knowledge (AI)he kept back for himself some of the proceeds and brought only a part of it and (AJ)laid it at the apostles' feet. But Peter said, “Ananias, why has (AK)Satan filled your heart to lie (AL)to the Holy Spirit and (AM)to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but (AN)to God.” When Ananias heard these words, he (AO)fell down and breathed his last. And (AP)great fear came upon all who heard of it. The young men rose and (AQ)wrapped him up and carried him out and buried him.

After an interval of about three hours his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. And Peter said to her, “Tell me whether you[c] sold the land for so much.” And she said, “Yes, for so much.” But Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together (AR)to test (AS)the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” 10 Immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. When the young men came in they found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 And (AT)great fear came upon the whole church and upon all who heard of these things.
