Efraín reprendido por su falsedad y opresión
12 Efraín se apacienta de viento, y sigue al solano; mentira y destrucción aumenta continuamente; porque hicieron pacto con los asirios, y el aceite se lleva a Egipto.
2 Pleito tiene Jehová con Judá para castigar a Jacob conforme a sus caminos; le pagará conforme a sus obras. 3 En el seno materno tomó por el calcañar a su hermano,(A) y con su poder venció al ángel. 4 Venció al ángel, y prevaleció; lloró, y le rogó;(B) en Bet-el le halló,(C) y allí habló con nosotros. 5 Mas Jehová es Dios de los ejércitos; Jehová es su nombre. 6 Tú, pues, vuélvete a tu Dios; guarda misericordia y juicio, y en tu Dios confía siempre.
7 Mercader que tiene en su mano peso falso, amador de opresión, 8 Efraín dijo: Ciertamente he enriquecido, he hallado riquezas para mí; nadie hallará iniquidad en mí, ni pecado en todos mis trabajos. 9 Pero yo soy Jehová tu Dios desde la tierra de Egipto; aún te haré morar en tiendas, como en los días de la fiesta.(D)
10 Y he hablado a los profetas, y aumenté la profecía, y por medio de los profetas usé parábolas. 11 ¿Es Galaad iniquidad? Ciertamente vanidad han sido; en Gilgal sacrificaron bueyes, y sus altares son como montones en los surcos del campo. 12 Pero Jacob huyó a tierra de Aram, Israel sirvió para adquirir mujer, y por adquirir mujer fue pastor.(E) 13 Y por un profeta Jehová hizo subir a Israel de Egipto,(F) y por un profeta fue guardado. 14 Efraín ha provocado a Dios con amarguras; por tanto, hará recaer sobre él la sangre que ha derramado, y su Señor le pagará su oprobio.

2 Pleito tiene Jehová con Judá para visitar á Jacob conforme á sus caminos: pagarále conforme á sus obras.
3 En el vientre tomó por el calcañar á su hermano, y con su fortaleza venció al ángel.
4 Venció al ángel, y prevaleció; lloró, y rogóle: en Beth-el le halló, y allí habló con nosotros.
5 Mas Jehová es Dios de los ejércitos: Jehová es su memorial.
6 Tú pues, conviértete á tu Dios: guarda misericordia y juicio, y en tu Dios espera siempre.
7 Es mercader que tiene en su mano peso falso, amador de opresión.
8 Y dijo Ephraim: Ciertamente yo he enriquecido, hallado he riquezas para mí: nadie hallará en mí iniquidad, ni pecado en todos mis trabajos.
9 Empero yo soy Jehová tu Dios desde la tierra de Egipto: aun te haré morar en tiendas, como en los días de la fiesta.

12 Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.
2 The Lord hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.
3 He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:
4 Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Bethel, and there he spake with us;
5 Even the Lord God of hosts; the Lord is his memorial.
6 Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment and wait on thy God continually.
7 He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.
8 And Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance: in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin.
9 And I that am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.
10 I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.
11 Is there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.
12 And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.
13 And by a prophet the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.
14 Ephraim provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return unto him.

12 Ephraim feeds on the [emptiness of the] wind
And [continually] pursues the [parching] east wind [which brings destruction];
Every day he multiplies lies and violence.
Further, he makes a covenant with Assyria
And (olive) oil is carried to Egypt [to seek alliances].(A)

The Lord also has a dispute [a legal complaint and an indictment] with Judah,
And He will punish Jacob in accordance with his ways;
He will repay him in accordance with his deeds.
3
In their mother’s womb he took his brother by the heel,
And in his maturity he contended with God.(B)
4
He wrestled with the angel and prevailed;
He wept [in repentance] and sought His favor.
He met Him at Bethel
And there God spoke with [him and through him with] us—(C)
5
Even the Lord, the God of hosts,
The name of Him [who spoke with Jacob] is the Lord.
6
Therefore, return [in repentance] to your God,
Observe and highly regard kindness and justice,
And wait [expectantly] for your God continually.
7
A merchant, in whose hand are false and fraudulent balances;
He loves to oppress and exploit.
8
Ephraim said, “I have indeed become rich [and powerful as a nation];
I have found wealth for myself.
In all my labors they will not find in me
Any wickedness that would be sin.”(D)
9
But I have been the Lord your God since [you became a nation in] the land of Egypt;
I will make you live in tents again,
As in the days of the appointed and solemn [a]festival.(E)
10
I have also spoken to [you through] the prophets,
And I gave [them] many visions [to make My will known],
And through the prophets I gave parables [to appeal to your sense of right and wrong].

Is there wickedness (idolatry) in Gilead?
Surely the people there are worthless.
In Gilgal [they defy Me when] they sacrifice bulls,
Yes, [after My judgment] their [pagan] altars are like the stone heaps
In the furrows of the fields.
12
Now Jacob (Israel) fled into the open country of Aram (Paddan-aram),(F)
And [there] Israel (Jacob) worked and served for a wife,
And for a wife he kept sheep.(G)
13
And by a prophet (Moses) the Lord brought Israel up from Egypt,
And by a prophet Israel was preserved.
14
Ephraim has provoked most bitter anger;
So his Lord will leave his bloodguilt on him [invoking punishment]
And bring back to him his shame and dishonor.

2 El Señor tiene también contienda con Judá(C),
y castigará a Jacob conforme a sus caminos;
conforme a sus obras le pagará(D).
3 En el vientre tomó a su hermano por el calcañar(E),
y en su madurez luchó con Dios(F).
4 Sí, luchó con el ángel y prevaleció,
lloró y le pidió su ayuda(G);
en Betel(H) le encontró,
y allí Él habló con nosotros,
5 sí, el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos,
el Señor es su nombre[b](I).
6 Y tú, vuelve a tu Dios(J),
practica la misericordia[c] y la justicia[d](K),
y espera siempre en[e] tu Dios(L).
7 A un mercader[f], en cuyas manos hay balanzas falsas(M),
le gusta oprimir.
8 Y Efraín ha dicho: Ciertamente me he enriquecido(N),
he adquirido[g] riquezas para mí;
en todos mis trabajos no hallarán en mí
iniquidad alguna que sea pecado(O).
9 Pero yo he sido el Señor tu Dios desde la tierra de Egipto;
de nuevo te haré habitar en tiendas(P),
como en los días de la fiesta señalada.
10 También he hablado a los profetas(Q)
y multipliqué las visiones[h];
y por medio[i] de los profetas hablé en parábolas[j](R).
11 ¿Hay iniquidad en Galaad?
Ciertamente son indignos.
En Gilgal sacrifican toros,
sí, sus altares son como montones de piedra(S)
en los surcos del campo.
12 Mas Jacob huyó a la tierra[k] de Aram(T),
e Israel sirvió por una mujer(U),
y por una mujer cuidó rebaños.
13 Por un profeta el Señor hizo subir a Israel de Egipto(V),
y por un profeta fue guardado.
14 Efraín le ha irritado amargamente(W);
por eso su Señor dejará sobre él su culpa de sangre(X),
y le devolverá su oprobio(Y).
